MGS4 coming to 360, claims Twitterer

Microsoft's E3 conference line-up leaked?

Rumours of what Microsoft will be showing at E3 are flying, with talk of an Xbox 360 Metal Gear Solid 4 port topping the bill.

Someone twittering under the name "Game Fork" claims to have insider knowledge of what's in store for the platform holder's conference.

Apparently the big reveal will be Metal Gear Solid 4 + Oxide, as it'll be called. Konami will also announce a 360 exclusive - "NOBODY outside of Kon has been told what this is," says Game Fork.

Lionhead is also said to be set to unveil a new title. We're told it's called Richter.

Other games apparently on show will include Forza 3, Assassin's Creed 2, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell Conviction, Halo ODST, All Points Bulletin, BioShock 2 and Lost Planet 2.

The much-rumoured motion-sensing camera will be shown off, according to Game Fork. It's official name is given as Xbox Fluid.

Word is the next batch of downloadable content for GTA IV is titled Blood and a Four Leaf Clover. "Get used to the name. You'll be saying it a lot this Christmas," Game Fork says.

We'll be spending the rest of this morning being told that the various companies involved don't comment on rumour and speculation. Can't wait.

MGs4 on 360 Better not be true! I wasted a great deal of money last May if that is the case!!!
  • muscleblade #4 3 years ago

MGS4 on the 360. Do we really need it? New exclusive 360 game from Konami sounds more interesting.
  • muscleblade #5 3 years ago

    @bad09

Its probably true. Dont tell me you bought a PS3 just for that game. Is it really that good. I doubt it.

MGS4 on the 360. Do we really need it?

It'll save me Ģ250, so yes.
  • bad09 #9 3 years ago

    @muscleblade

Pretty much, I'm a big fan and it is a great game (except for the silly online system)! I used other "excuses" to justify it of course. I needed both Blu and a new upscaling DVD (launch 360 so no HDMI and of course HD DVD), and TC4 was coming.

But basically if I knew MGS was coming to 360, I could have got a cheap stand alone blu and saved 300 notes! It's not like PS3 has dazzled in the year I've had it (apart from Siren).

Still it's my main media player so I guess it wasn't too bad an investment, "people will buy it even with no games"..........
  • peeps #10 3 years ago

lol some unknown person posts something on twitter saying he has 'inside information'

anyone could do this and make up any sort of rumors... we get to hear exactly what Hideo's next project is before long anyway so waiting on that rather than someones 'inside knowledge'

also 'no one outside of konami knows about it', so that presumably includes MS lmao but if it was a 360 exclusive wouldn't konami tell ms they were developing it lol
  • DavidBoring #11 3 years ago

so some dubious twitterranting is news now?
  • JohnnyWashnGo #12 3 years ago

Jeez - people need to stop using Twitter. Is like the worse cheapo supermarket soap gossip rag but on the internet.
  • peeps #13 3 years ago

exactly. Although i understand ppl can get insider knowledge to things, the amount of rumors that are completely false are amazing (well this is the internet). I mean anyone can make a twitter account and post what they like. Until Hideo announces what the game is, i'm not buying any rumors

edit: well twitter can be good if used correcltly e.g. i've only got a few ppl one there such as forzerotwo, evan wells, official bf1943 etc. it can be a really good way to get 'news of news' cus they'll usually post up to inform ppl that something is on the way etc but i'd only ever trust something from 1 of these times of ppl i.e. publishers of a game, lead developers etc etc

i doubt it will come to 360 but if it did it wouldn't have the konami id crap. Thats only there as a way for konami to get round having to pay sony for the bandwidth charges of dlc.
  • Skandalle #15 3 years ago

Not getting any hopes up as it is STILL only rumors, but if it is true thats great news, its the only reason i curse at PS3 players!
  • septimus #16 3 years ago

Seems unlikely. Next year I could imagine it would be announced. It's not as though MGS hasn't been on XBOX before, but it is usually much later.
  • MORZTAN #17 3 years ago

Hmm. I'm thinking of buying a PS3 sometime anyway, and MGS4 would be a great excuse... It would seem much more justified if it didn't come out on 360, which I already own. Oh the luxury problems of todays youth!
  • DrDamn #18 3 years ago

I thought MGS4 coming to the 360 eventually was a given, big budget and proper third party - not a Sony studio. It's a very popular game so people must get some fun out of it. For me it's another example of a Japanese game series which refuses to update it's control scheme where plenty of other games have shown better ways ... *cough* Res Evil *cough*.

The online stuff was a good laugh - though hampered by the controls - mowing people down by rolling in a barrel then chundering is quality. :)
  • Vistrix #19 3 years ago

Well that will keep Konami busy...MGS4 would have to be totally redeveloped if this is true.

  • smernicki #20 3 years ago

i'd play MGS4 on the 360 as i loved mgs1, liked mgs2, and have no intention of getting a ps3
  • mcmonkeyplc #21 3 years ago

Bit fucking late isn't it? I'm on Act 5 of it on the PS3 now.
  • owl #22 3 years ago

anyone with a swift, working set of peepers could see this coming a mile off. even before it's ps3 release it was obvious it would eventually show up on 360, anyone remember substance etc?.

well, anyway. . .mgs4 is worth playing i suppose in the same way a car crash is worth experiencing as long as you don't get hurt.

so, if playing this game poses you no mortal danger you should all give it a shot.

would be good to get some news on APB
  • Widge #24 3 years ago

Significant changes? They'd need to re-do the script in places, ie, remove all the "no need to change discs"/"bluray"/the entire PsychoMantis "Dualshock3" speech, remove the DS3 graphics and probably create some engine that runs the MGS1 section (on the PS3 it just switches to the PS1 emulator). Thats about it though, I'm sure they could manage that. Well, they'd need to re-do the entire online bit (or leave it out)... while they're at it, they can do the PS3 version at the same time and bung in trophies.

    EDIT:

    great tagging!

Can't be arsed about MGS but I hope they will show off a lot of APB. That could be *the* big game this year.
  • RexRunti #26 3 years ago

Good to see MGS4 on the 360 but I hope it's not Microsofts big reveal of E3, because let's face it, it's kinda old news now. And although for the last couple of years the 360 line up has really delivered I don't want the highlight of 2009/10 to be some PS3 port. Give me exclusives.
  • des #27 3 years ago

If this is true,i expect some 360 exclusive content.
MGS4 EG review was pure gold,2000 comments
    Internet will implode...
  • Eighthours #28 3 years ago

The MGS4 thing sounds as viable as ever, until they say that it'll be the big end to the conference. Which is clearly bollocks when you think about the implications.
  • GreyBeard #29 3 years ago

I highly doubt that a port of a (nearly) 2 year old PS3 game would top the bill of MS announcements at E3. Realistically how many units is it likely to shift?

Apart from that, there's nothing mentioned on that list that isn't expeced. Its a solid (pardon the pun) line-up, but nothing suprising at all really.
  • Goodfella #30 3 years ago

^^ MGS4 came out last June, where did you get 2 years from?

Anyway, about time there was a decent game on the 360, if it's true. ;)

  • Doctor_What #32 3 years ago

Motion sensing cameras? Whatever next?!?! They'll be trying to copy SingStar and Buzz soon.

    Oh wait.
  • Moz #33 3 years ago

If the best they have to show is a port of a year old game it's going to be a flat E3 for MS!!
  • andywilkie35 #34 3 years ago

I bought a PS3 solely for MGS4 (well and FFXIII but that's already confirmed for 360!). Would I be pissed off if it came out on 360? Nah, I'd buy it again to be honest. I've got good mileage out of the PS3 from other games too so this can only be good news, and if it doesn't happen then nevermind!
  • Jonathan_Fakenham #35 3 years ago

"Blood and a Four Leaf Clover" for reals? So it's focused on the Irish family then, for sure. And here I'd been looking forward to the story of that gangbanger you run into all over the game.

Now I'm wondering how many discs MGS4 360 are being released on, if that's true.

  • Darren #36 3 years ago

I hope this is true. The PS3 version was utterly awesome, the best in the series IMO, so as many people as possible should have the chance to experience it.

I'm glad I bought the PS3 version though because having the game on one disc is more convenient even with the mandatory HDD installs between chapters. Presumably the 360 version will arrive on 4 to 5 DVDs even with compression as the PS3 version used 33 GB of a dual-layer BD?
  • Mnia786 #37 3 years ago

Fuck what Konami said. Kojima said its a PS3 xclusive so I'm believing him over some fag at twitter tbh. If it does get ported, it'll be under the publishers pressure (actign greedy) rather than Kojima studios.
  • kinky_mong #38 3 years ago

Will be worth a purchase if it does happen so I can see if the fuss is justified. And so I can do my crap Snake impression while playing it.
  • VandelayIndustries #39 3 years ago

If true I'd be interested in how they tackle the Playstation specific moments and what the addition content amounts to. I would buy this one as well since MGS4 was one of my personal favorite games of last year.

"I hope this is true. The PS3 version was utterly awesome, the best in the series IMO, so as many people as possible should have the chance to experience it."

This. It has its fair share of foibles (as pointed out in the EG review), but when said & done I enjoyed it immensely. And it's one of those games you need to share and discuss with others, so the more that play it the better. Wonder what extra content Konami will bring this time?

The mandatory installs were annoying though, particularly if you just wanted to replay that awesome bike section. I'm not sure disc swapping would be much better, mind :\
  • Frumper #42 3 years ago

I doubt the fact that it's a one year old port is how they'll be playing it. It'll be one of their headlines and the fact they've secured MSG4, another historically Sony exclusive, AAA, system-seller is big news and strengthens the 360 library. It also means less sales for Sony as people considering buying a PS3 for this now have a much cheaper option of buying the game and a 360/ or 360 owners considering a PS3 won't bother.

As it stands, I think the only real differentiator for the PS3 now, in terms of games is WipeOut HD, GT and LBP. (*if* MSG4 is announced)

MGs4 on 360 Better not be true! I wasted a great deal of money last May if that is the case!!!
And how does that differ from wasting it on a 360 version this year?

Well, aside from the Ģ200 difference....

Significant changes? They'd need to re-do the script in places, ie, remove all the "no need to change discs"/"bluray"/the entire PsychoMantis "Dualshock3" speech

Just replace the changing discs line with "Okay you're going to have to install to the hard drive now, so sit down for half an hour and wait while we do. -oh, wait, that was back when people had to use the impractically slow transfer rates of Blu-ray - you just need to switch the disc."
And the mantis bit is even easier. Have him gloat that for all your controller being superior, it doesn't help you. The bit where a playstation flashes up and he comments that your hardware has improved would be even funnier on 360.
    Edited by 1 at 14/05/09 @ 11:12
  • Widge #44 3 years ago

@Frumper: There are far more differentiators than that! By quite some way.
Thats like saying all the 360 has to compete is Halo, Mass Effect and Gears Of War.
  • danathjo #45 3 years ago

Pssssst...I hear a Gears of War 1 & 2 compilation is going to be announced at E3, pass it on!

I don't think they game would be all that popular on the 360 as its the 4th in a series and you have to understand the whole back story, if you do have a 360 and havnt played the other games, do so...NOW

I still donīt understand why some ppl assume whomever has a 360 never had a Sony console before. Well I can assure you that I spent thousands and thousands of Euros in PS2 games last gen, and I chose 360 as my main platform this gen. I didn't signed any exclusivity deal with any company.

  • Law07 #50 3 years ago

MGS4 apparently couldn't even fit on a Blu-ray, would be very interesting to see how they actually do this.
  • Darren #51 3 years ago

Law07 - MGS4 *did* fit on a single BD though and it apparently only used 33 GB of a double layered disc which has 50 GB of storage capacity! ;)

The Xbox 360 getting MGS4 is one more reason not to buy an expensive PS3, true, but personally I couldn't be without mine as it doubles up as a superb home entertainment hub for all my music, videos, photos and DVDs/BDs. Thus it gets a lot more use than my 360. It's also easier to upgrade than the 360 with the option to fit as big an HDD as you can afford and is available plus there's software built in to back it all up (something missing from the Xbox 360). It's not a perfect machine, the graphics are a bit disappointing compared with the 360, especially the weak AA, but it's a great all-rounder if you ask me, has lasted me almost 2.5 years to date and is whisper quiet during use. Oh and it has a few decent games! I can't complain. :)
  • Vin #52 3 years ago

    Bloody twitter.

This 10 disc theory is a load of shit, to boot.
  • XdarXideX #53 3 years ago

I don't believe all this about MGS4 not fitting onto a DVD9 or 2. I bought a PS3 for MGS4 (and sold it for the same amount I payed after completing it a couple times) and to be honest, there wasn't all that much that would lead me to believe it couldn't be done on a smaller disc space. Did they leave all the textures and audio uncompressed or something? Because the play areas weren't all that big and the only things that seem like they could take up space are the lengthy cutscenes with lots of audio.
    Edited by 1 at 14/05/09 @ 12:02
  • septimus #54 3 years ago

@Frumper. It hasn't been exclusive to PS for ages. PC and (sometimes) XBOX versions have come before each time.
  • BoffBoff #55 3 years ago

Have to agree with Miiiguel, played nearly all of them, up to and including Snake Eater. So I would like to see it on 360 as I'm sure many others would.

Only Blu-Ray and LBP left as reasons to part with the cash for a PS3 now. (In my most humble of opinions.)

And I couldn't give a shit about swapping DVD's so that hasn't even come into it for me. I still remember the 3―" FDD Amiga days!!
  • muscleblade #56 3 years ago

    Same here.

  • muscleblade #57 3 years ago

"360 version = 10 discs, poorer graphics and sound"

I think it will be quite the opposite regarding the graphics and sound looking at the past. Wait and see.

    10 discs? You wish.
  • IneptPercy #58 3 years ago

They sorted mantis on the twin snakes on the gamecube I still remember him saying he will read my mind then saying "I see you have been playing super mario sunshine" that was clever having it look at other memory card files.

As mentioned instead of the installs it will be a swap disc event. As for this 33GB thing I am sure the 360 version will be smaller.

If this does happen I will probably never buy a PS3, if it doesn't its still wait until I can get a machine and game for Ģ150.
  • JHuxley #59 3 years ago

I think the audio quality would suffer more than the graphics (as was the case with Dead Space). I'd assume they can save a fair amount of space by compressing the videos, too.
  • geeza2020 #60 3 years ago

please let this be true. The only reason i plan on getting a ps3 in the future (when it drops in price) is for MGS4. I could end up saving myself a pretty penny....
  • Xerx3s #61 3 years ago

Well, that's a disappointing show if this is real. :/
  • makeamazing #62 3 years ago

Whatever happens, lets just hope E3 is better than last years, all three console makers talks were pretty poor,(Nins was the worst)... interesting to see how they have improved things this year.
  • glaeken #63 3 years ago

The thought occurs the 360 version actually might end up being the version for me to play as they might cut out a lot of those long cut scenes. That was always the thing that put me off ever going near MGS. The 90 minute cut scenes in 4 just sounded bonkers to me and there is no way I would ever sit through a cut scene that long.

  • stevetuck #64 3 years ago

Shenmue III is coming this year.
  • darkphoenix #67 3 years ago

I finished MGS4 recently and all I can say about it is that it is a disapointing, pretensious and boring game that DOES NOT honor the series.
Glad I bought it cheap, I would never buy it again for my X360.
  • vegard #68 3 years ago

Exactly miiiguel, it's very annoying. This is what makes me laugh about this Fanboy crap. To me a major part of its definition comes from buying a particular brand of console every time irrespective of how good the competition is. You'd be pushing it say MS have been around 2 gens given how poor the original sold!!

Whether they like it or not a lot of 360 owners are people that owned a Sony the gen before but aren't blinkered fukwits who buy on name.

I tend to think the actual groups are:

Sony Fanboys vs People that think Sony are cunts for bullshitting gen after gen about the power of their consoles. ;)

Anyway... MGS4 isn't for me as I played 1 (great), played about 30 minutes of 2 and haven't played one since. I frankly haven't got time to play through the others or the inclination to sit through all those bloody cut scenes of part 4.

My mate did buy a PS3 just for this game though. He hasn't bought another game for it yet. I might have it off him when Trico & Gow3 come out. =]

  • ZaammK #71 3 years ago

It would be funny if EG got someone else to review it on 360 and give it 10/10.

    Comments record for sure! Hahah
  • Sunyavadin #73 3 years ago

Given sales figures for 360 vs PS3 and comparing them to PS2 and XBox sales prior to the release of this gen's consoles, I'd go so far as to say MOST 360 owners owned a PS2.
As for the number of discs - I'd expect it could fit on 3. In fact, it could fit on 2 if they used 17GB DVDs. Lost Odyssey was 4, so even that's not a major issue if they wanted to, say, up the resolution on textures like most 360 games compared to their PS3 counterparts.
  • cyber_nicco #74 3 years ago

I've been a bit meh about the MGS series thus far, but I would get 4 for my 360 if it came out. Give it a try...
  • El-Dev #75 3 years ago

I tend to think to think the groups are:

Sony fanboys vs people who say they aren't fanboys but hate everything with the Sony logo it and want to see the company fail for no real reason other than they own a 360 and believe Sony have orchestrated a grand scheme to destroy the gaming community.

    I may be wrong.
  • dadrester #76 3 years ago

hahaha... how is this even news?!
  • El-Dev #77 3 years ago

Also one thing I forgot to mention is how will Microsoft feel about Apple and SonyEricsson advertising in a game that may appear on their console?

They couldn't have PC's with Windows as the OS in the game, the cutscenes would be even longer as they constantly restart them.

I don't think this will happen, but I want it to just to see Snake listening to a Zune. I assume microsoft would make them remove the ipod and sony ads. Also not a lot of the memory used wasn't from the cut-scenes because they were in-engine. A lot of it was the uncompressed music, which was amazing imo, and dialogue, which was eh... well i'll just say otacon. NAOMI!
  • man.the.king #81 3 years ago

"Apparently the big reveal will be Metal Gear Solid 4 + Oxide, as it'll be called"

That can't be right. Microsoft's "big reveal" or finale at E3 2009 is announcing a port (with a few updates here and there) of a year-old game?

What I'm really interested in seeing more about is Alan Wake. A game with an atmosphere akin to a Stephen King story? What's not to like? :)
