MGS ported to PS2 for Collection
But still unconfirmed for Europe.
Metal Gear Solid will be shifted onto a PS2 disc when it is released as part of the Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection.
The PSone game was originally on two CDs, but Konami US has said there will be none of that when it ships its bundle on 18th March.
Interestingly the Japanese version is on PSone disc, as confirmed by our chief designer who owns it.
The Essential Collection contains the first three instalments in the series - Director's Cut versions of MGS2 and MGS3 - for an attractive price of USD 29.99 (GBP pennies).
Unfortunately Konami is still no closer to confirming it for Europe.
It's a double PAL face-punch after Sony Europe told us it had no plans to release a similar American Metal Gear Solid 4 PS3 bundle here.
However, Konami did say there would be a Metal Gear announcement of some kind tomorrow. We can't possibly imagine what that might be.

Oh damn. It must be.
I've been saying I would pick up a PS3 for MGS4 for years now, and yesterday I finally caved in and did. Getting the "MGS4 on Xbox 360" announcement now would just be a cruel act of synchronicity.

no, you're not, really bugged me back then. anyword on ps3 compatibility ? it's a shame that ps2 games are not region-free to on ps3, with weak dollar/strong euro i pay about 20 € less as going to the store next door

...ah. Yeah, OK, I forgot about that; that sucked ass. Still, part of what was added in the Subsistence package were modes and features that were already available in the Euro version of the original MGS3 anyway, like the Demo Theater, Duel Mode, extra Snake vs Monkey stages etc...doesn't excuse the seven month gap between US and EU releases, though.
Also, it's best not to hold your breath for a Sony release of Twin Snakes ever, given that it was developed in co-operation with Nintendo, and contains a number of Nintendo references in it (Mario statue, Miyamoto portrait etc.). Not that you're missing much IMO; I always felt Twin Snakes was fairly half-assed, adding little beyond a disappointing graphical update, new moves that the levels obviously weren't designed to accommodate, and some OTT cutscene choreography that felt largely out of place and out of character. Stick with the original, I say...

Of course, a MGS4 on Xbox 360 announcement tomorrow would be a complete bomb shell. Fun too.
