Mercenaries 2 gets fresh date News

Pandemic has said that Mercenaries 2 will be released here on 5th September.

The developer confirmed the date to GameSpot after revealing a trailer specifying the US launch as 31st August.

Mercenaries 2 will be available on PC, PS3, PS2 and Xbox 360, and lets you run around Venezuela as a gun for hire, blowing things up and getting tattoos and smoking and swearing.

The game had previously been expected as early as February this year, but was held back by EA so it could add extra polish, and get it sitting comfortably with the new publisher mantra of quality, not quantity.

Kristan says the best bit about Mercenaries is going into each mission with endless possibilities. He remembers the first game's options of using a helicopter to fly you in, or going in by foot with bazooka in tow. That open-ended approach made it stand out, he reckons. "Plus you could pretty much blow the snot out of everything."

Good job the sequel will be doing much the same but bigger and better on the fresh hardware, then.

Anyway, Mercenaries 2 /yay. Enjoyed the original loads, I expect the same from part 2 :)

This game has been delayed more than Haze... Wasn't it meant to come to PS2 as well?

According to the official FAQ, it still is going to be on PS2, as well. Having seen that new trailer, and read the FAQ, there's reason for optimism.

I LOVED the first Mercenaries. Best free-roaming game yet IMHO. Hope the sequel turns out great else I will cry. Same goes to you Just Cause 2, I'll think of the the first one as a practise if the sequel delivers.

I'm surprised this is still slated for PS2. One can't help but wonder if the legacy platform support will hold it back on 360 and PS3?

Just Cause 2 (the other military/countryside GTA clone) has dropped it, hasn't it?

Also, where's Total Overdose 2? It's been quiet for ages.

Terrible time to release a game, there's so much else coming out. I was excited about getting this last year, but now I honestly just don't care. With GTA IV out soon, and Saints Row probably coming around the same time as Mercs, along with practically every other big name title this year, I can't say Mercenaries is high up on my list of games to get.

Is there really that much due this autumn/Christmas season?

I was under the impression that things were a bit lacking (or perhaps more like 'normal') after last years string of mega 10/10 blockbusters. GTA and Metal Gear are due much earlier, too.

Well there's Spore, Soulcalibur, Gears 2, Force Unleashed, Fable 2, Tomb Raider: Underworld, LittleBigPlanet, Banjo Kazooie, Splinter Cell V, LEGO Batman, Dragon Age and whatever else I may have missed or don't have exact release dates yet, all being released at around the same time.
