Marvel vs. Capcom 2 PSN dated

Fortnight after the XBLA version.

Capcom has announced that the PlayStation Network version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 will launch on 13th August for GBP 11.99 / EUR 14.99 / USD 14.99.

That's two weeks after the game's 29th July bow on Xbox Live Arcade.

Announced at Captivate 09 earlier this year, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is a port of the Dreamcast codebase and includes additional graphical filters, all 56 characters unlocked from the start, and online matches.

Ah so that's why the PS3 got the demo...
  • plastickitty #2 3 years ago

wtf what was the point of the demo if we get it 2 weeks later. What a load of bollocks. I own an xbox 360 but the pad is shit for beat em ups so looks like I'll have to wait

Ouch, £12 for a decade old 2D game? While it's a personal favourite of mine from my Dreamcast days, I don't think it's worth the asking price myself.

So this is 1600 MP on the Xbox 360 then?
  • deadmonkeyuk #4 3 years ago

to be 1200 MP on 360 about £10

    @ stevetuck

Thats the Mango Sentinel to you buddy.

Makes you think rude words about a certain New York sports team too.

Woah... serious nerd rage over this.

They can pop their silly little game up their stinky little bottoms for that price.
  • Cappy #9 3 years ago

I still have the Dreamcast version, I would probably pick it up again if there is a retail version though.

Not sure why, I can't have played the game for even 30 minutes in all the years I've owned it.
  • WinterSnowblind #10 3 years ago

Consdering they just released a full remake of Monkey Island for 800 points, 1200 is very high asking price for a port of an old fighting game. Regardless, I'm sure people will buy that and I guess that's how they justify the price.
  • GreatUncleBaal #11 3 years ago

To be fair, it costs at least that much for a Dreamcast or PS2 copy of MVC2 these days, so it's not really that bad. Will probably pick this up though I've already got the PS2 version. It's a great game, though I am shite at it.

@ Robotrocker - I've got to watch that video again now - where's your curleh mustache at? :)

I think 1200 is a fair price too since they are doing a full conversion of it and actually adding to it. Backgrounds are re-textured for HD with wide-screen options. Online play is using the GGPO system like HD-Remix with 6-player lobbies. Capcom are also going to provide a free mix-tape you can download and run as a custom soundtrack as they know how awful the music is.

As well, Amazingly enough, MvC2 never had massive exposure since print runs were very low for the Dreamcast version as well as the PS2/X-Box versions since Virgin Interactive were near dead as a publisher back then. There are going to be a lot more interested people willing to buy this. And maybe if it sells enough, we might get MvC3 out of it too.

    @ GreatUncleBaal

The sequel is hilarious and IMO better than the first, if sadly less quotable on EG. Come launch day though, Gonna be hittin' people like Sicily in the middle of Italy.

This is a piss poor cash-in on the recent trend for 2D beat-em-ups. Avoid.
  • Miths #14 3 years ago

Did I overlook something when I tried it today or is the PSN demo strictly a local multiplayer demo? I got as far as the title screen and the options menu and then it was game over for me (though I guess I could have tried to find my old SixAxis somewhere so I could have had a no doubt wildly entertaining match against myself).
That was certainly time wasted - all four minutes, including download and install.

    @jonarob

"So, people who've never played this wonderful game have two options: Buy it on eBay at a ridiculous price because it's so rare"

Unfortunately I am currently having a similar problem with Ico. I've never played it and the prices for Ico on the Net are ridiculous. I'm hoping that "The Last Guardian" comes out with some sort of collector's ed package with the previous two games included.

Personally I think 1200 pts is too much also - But something I read recently indicated that the sales figues are the same wether its 800 or 1200 pts.. So its not hard to see what price point will get chosen, and why theres been a recent increase in 1200 pointers.

Screw that... when's the Fallout 3 DLC coming out?

    (I jest, of course)

    ;-)
  • Sonic_D #19 3 years ago

Yes I'd prefer if this was 800, but if the online portion (including lobby system) works properly then this game will be worth it as I will get many hours of enjoyment out of it.
