New date expected shortly.

Update 5.10pm: Sony has confirmed that LittleBigPlanet will be recalled worldwide due to two references to the Qu'ran in a piece of licensed background music.

Original story: The release of Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation 3 title LittleBigPlanet has been delayed in Europe, GamesIndustry.biz reports.

The game was due for release next week, 24th October, but now some retailers are estimating the game may be delayed by three weeks until 14th November.

However, GamesIndustry.biz understands that the title may not suffer such a long delay to retail, and a new date is expected to be announced by Sony shortly.

LittleBigPlanet has reviewed incredibly well in the specialist press and anticipation is high from consumers who have already had access to the beta of the game.

Sony has said that the game is a system seller for the PlayStation 3, and the title is considered one of the most important releases for the home console this Christmas.

Oh BOLLOCKS, why do sony have to make such a clusterfuck of everything they ever try to do.

This will be a truely amazing game, as proved by the beta test, but the delay is probably going to mess up the marketing. It is more than likely to late to rescedule the marketing so next weekend will be bombarded with adverts in newspapers, online ect. with no game out to buy.

By the time the game turns up a few weeks later one of the other big xmas releases will have stolen the limelight, and wiped out a hefty percentage of LBP's sales.

The release schedule at this till of year is so stacked that this last minute delay is inveitably going to effect the games overall success at retail.

I still can't wait, regardless. At least the plush toys might make it over here my the time the game releases.

Well I'm fine with that as I've got Dead Space, Fable 2, MotoGP 08 and Midnight Club: Los Angeles on pre-order for the 24th. I think the game releases I want thin out a bit thereafter so 31st October, 7th or 14th November suit me perfectly. Maybe they'll release a demo instead to tide people over while they wait?

It'll be to get more copies of the game to the US, at the expense of EU. They know we'll lap it up but I think they hedged a bit with the US (being a touch more "action" focussed rather than "create". With the really good reviews its been getting I think the hypes risen so that they need the units over there.

Oh well, back to being a 2nd class citizen but that means we'll have a ton of levels ready when we get this, and I can get mine on release day (as its after payday). What about the special DLC stuff for those who got it release week?

"Gamereactor has posted a story which suggested that the reason for the delay is due to Sony having to remove a song from the soundtrack. The offending song is said to be offensive to a certain religion. The story also goes on to say this will result in a three week delay to the family friendly game in Europe. "

Does anyone know if there are worldwide servers for this game then? If so, with my 360 currently dead, I may go for the import option too, as long I'm not limited to playing only yanks. :/

Edit - Also, if so, does anyone recommend a good US importer that doesn't take ages to arrive? I used to use dvdboxoffice.com for the free worldwide shipping, but their timing isn't the best if memory serves me correctly...

If upset muslims are the reason this game gets delayed it's once again a case in which perfectly rational people get screwed because silly people take fairy tales seriously.

Freedom of religion should not be a human right. Rather, children should have the right to be free of religious indoctrination by parents. If people are so unfortunate to have had a religuous indoctrination we should pitty them but never, ever respect the ridiculous believes that they have. It was an entertaining read though not Dawkins at his best IMO. You could really notice that the subject has deep emotional impact on him (but then again it has that effect on most people) and this more than often affected the pacing and structure of his arguments. The selfish gene is a much better book but of course with a rather different subject.

"The release of Sony's highly anticipated PlayStation 3 title LittleBigPlanet has been delayed worldwide.

The title has been delayed due to references to the Qu'ran on the in-game soundtrack.

"During the review process prior to the release of LittleBigPlanet, it has been brought to our attention that one of the background music tracks licensed from a record label for use in the game contains two expressions that can be found in the Qur'an," admitted the company in a statement.

"We have taken immediate action to rectify this and we sincerely apologise for any offence that this may have caused."

Earlier, GamesIndustry.biz reported the game was delayed in Europe, but it is now understood this issue affects the worldwide release of the title. Sony is expected to recall all copies of the game already shipped to retail.

The game was due for release next week, October 24, but now some retailers are estimating the game may be delayed by three weeks until November 14.

However, GamesIndustry.biz understands that the title may not suffer such a long delay to retail, and a new date is expected to be announced by Sony next week.

LittleBigPlanet has reviewed incredibly well in the specialist press and anticipation is high from consumers who have already had access to the beta of the game.

Sony has said that the game is a system seller for the PlayStation 3, and the title is considered one of the most important releases for the home console this Christmas."

Consider religion to be a ray of white light, and people as colored glasses/prisms. People will interpret/color everything they perceive with what they have previously experienced.

Sony are too late to the table again..! What with a recession looming I think I'll be happy with my 360 and Gear of War 2 and even the new Xbox New Experience might be out by the time LBP is release.

And what are Sony doing with all those millions ( or minions ) of LBP blu-ray discs, surely it's already gone gold by now. Another blot on the environmental landfill landscape! If only Sony had of kept with their original digital download idea for this game.. Blows..!

The purpose was religion to explain the world and give people guidelines to survive in it. It filled the role of a judicial and political system when these weren't established yet. It encouraged 'good' behaviour towards people within the group and 'bad' behaviour towards outsiders in order to increase the survival rates of the tribe. Gradually it became perverted as people discovered they could use it to assert power over their fellow tribes men. Then, thankfully, along came science that explained the world better, leading to Enlightenment, fundamental human rights and modern democracy. We don't need religion anymore and it would be better for all of us if it went away.
