Killzone 2 demo due at 5pm today

Plus: try out Halo Wars right now.

Sony has confirmed the Killzone 2 demo will be available later today.

"PSN updates vary, but hopefully around 5pm everyone should be able to download it," a spokesperson told Videogaming247.

You'll be able to explore two sections from the opening level, and try out the tutorial. The full game is out on 27th February, and it's a corker - read our review to find out why.

In the interests of anti-bias, and because it's lunchtime and we're too hungry to write two news stories when we could be making a sandwich, the Halo Wars demo is also out today. Right now, in fact - you can download it from Xbox Live.

Or, because you live in the Future, you can tell your computer to tell your 360 to download it via Xbox.com. Bet Judith Hann never saw THAT coming.

    Man, PSN is going to get slaughtered.
  • the_dudefather #2 3 years ago

    I will look forward to playing both :)

    have hopes for Halo wars, as it's built from the ground up as a console RTS, rather than a port
  • Rash' #3 3 years ago

    So this thread is for Killzone and Halo Wars...

    :)

    don't know why they've announced a specific time, everyone will rush in at once and slow down the whole network.

  • Nemesis #9 3 years ago

    Then I think it pushes it to the 360; I've never done it but that would be my understanding.
  • BadBoyBonner #10 3 years ago

    I thought the 360 has an option to download even when it is switched off?
  • lcmnick #11 3 years ago

    The Store is going to get hammered....think it's probably best off waiting till the weekend.

    Whats the point of setting things to download things on my xbox from my PC at work? I'd have to be at home anyway to turn it on!??? Or am i missing something?
  • mcbi4kh2 #15 3 years ago

    if its on standby and it still starts to download that is very useful, if it only works when its on usefulness is lowered. Can anyone confirm?
    PSP remote thing is cool but I dont like taking my PSP to work everyday

    you can start it remotely from xbox.com. it's the future indeed
  • Anthony_UK #17 3 years ago

    What if its switched off, but plugged in, it automatically boots up and starts downloading?
  • KayJay #18 3 years ago

    FAQ might help!

    It does not look like a "Remote Start" is an option!

  • Weezer #19 3 years ago

    Typical. I'm out tonight. Maybe for the best - I'll download after the rush.
  • Hobo #20 3 years ago

    You'd think this feature was only launched this week!
  • KayJay #21 3 years ago

    Thanks for the helpful post there Hobo.

    Fancy explaining to those that don't understand how it works. How it works..!
  • kangarootoo #22 3 years ago

    I don't believe you can remote start your XB, however you can buy stuff from the XBLM and it will be added to your download queue when you next boot your 360.

    The advantage of this is that you can get home, press one button on the front of your 360 and the download will get going without you even having to turn on your TV.

    You could I suppose press the poer button twice, once to turn it on and again 30 seconds later to put it into "finish downloading and then switch off" mode.

    And give that said "half on half off" mode exists, I suspect it will only be a matter of time before remote boot is an option (when you do this with your PS3 it is never properly off but rather in a power saving mode, from which it can be booted remotely using a PSP, which is AWESOME btw :) )
  • Anthony_UK #23 3 years ago

    From the FAQ it seems you have to manually switch on your xbox and log into live before it downloads.....

    If it does switch it on, that is indeed awesome! If not, I Still think its rather pointless??

  • renzo #25 3 years ago

    How big is the Halo Wars demo?
  • schnide #26 3 years ago

    You say anti-bias, but you gave Killzone 2 the headline - you love teh Sony!!!!!!!11111

    ;)
  • stepneg #27 3 years ago

    The advantage of the remote download is that I can queue up what I like then phone the wife and ask her to turn my 360 on. Before this feature the same phone call would last an hour while I tried talking her through finding what I wanted to download first. Halo Wars demo should be waiting for me when I get home, yay!

    been there too stepneg my friend..... very painful phone calls indeed.
  • dazrichards #29 3 years ago

  • penhalion #30 3 years ago

    @dazrichards

    I'm thinking the answer is yes
  • Rich72 #31 3 years ago

    the world will know tomorrow Daz
  • ryohazuki1983 #32 3 years ago

    Yep exactly stepneg, was such a pain before, so much easier now.

    One of my mates at work leaves his machine on when something big is due out so he can queue it up and get back home ready to play straight away.

    "Meh KZ2 can wait, the DC I bought on Sunday (thanks to you sods EG!) turned up this afternoon! \o/"

    Hope my eBay purchase of said DC turns up today as well :) Hope so as it is going to take about 3 weeks to download the KZ2 demo.

    Halo Wars will have to wait as I can't spare the bandwidth.... unless PSN goes that shit.
  • kungfubob #35 3 years ago

    i wonder how many MB killzone will be?
  • Derblington #36 3 years ago

    What a stupid time to update the store for demos.
  • KreyAtiv #37 3 years ago

    @ Renzo - Halo Wars demo is 1.4GB in size
  • Agent_Llama #38 3 years ago

    If I could log on to PSN for more than 10 seconds (or at all) without it booting me, I'd love to download it. :os

    I seen on several german gaming sites early this morning rumors about multiplayer being in the demo. I was using a web translator but sony replied to the rumor something like " Let the customers believe what they want to but wouldn't it be more of a surprise if they waited to play it and then found out. Here's to hoping.
  • deathdealer619 #40 3 years ago

    is gonna blow up!!!
  • flakmonkey #41 3 years ago

    its there, 1207MB. slooooow
  • MrE26 #42 3 years ago

  • dadrester #44 3 years ago

  • Bdub87 #45 3 years ago

    And the d/l is done, start to finish in about 20 mins. Installing now i will let everyone know if i was wrong about multiplayer or not in just a min.
  • Entity #46 3 years ago

    @Bdub87
    Please do let us know. Only at 39% atm since the bandwidth is being choked by McDonalds.

    No I didn't!
  • Bdub87 #47 3 years ago

    Nope sadly no multiplayer. Damn germans and the crappy translation got me excited :(. It asks u to adjust ur brightness at the neginning until u see the helghast symbol. Am i the only one not seeing it at all?
  • j5tylez85 #48 3 years ago

  • Entity #49 3 years ago

  • BigE0n #52 3 years ago

    deleted Im an idiot thought you meant co-op!

    hope the multiplayer is good that is something that is awsome to test out when included in a demo (like res5 has !)
  • Bdub87 #53 3 years ago

    @entity
    Multiplayer is greyed out like the other options you cant select on my demo, although i did download it from the US using a european account but don't really think that would make a difference. Graphics are pretty amazing though and i have already shot a few helghasts.
  • j5tylez85 #54 3 years ago

    hehe im only playin about :p jus wanted everyone to get excited loll
  • septimus #55 3 years ago

  • Artemis_Matsas #60 3 years ago

    LOL another old fart's heart strings tugged by the DC articles :)

    / starts KZ2 download for weekend then turns on DC slips in SR2 and grips the wheel with tears of pure joy in his eyes.
  • Dave52 #62 3 years ago

    80% downloaded - oooohhh... excitement....
  • MrE26 #63 3 years ago

    Bdub87, if you're not seeing the symbol on the brightness setting screen, make sure you have RGB set to 'limited' in your PS3s display settings.
  • Chufty #64 3 years ago

    Aww no EG quote in the final blurbs! Awesome demo though, pre-ordered immediately.
  • Bdub87 #65 3 years ago

    @MrE26
    Thanks for the advice that was the problem.
  • m0thr4 #66 3 years ago

    @MrE26

    That's a bit of a bore... every other game and Blu-ray I have is fine with RGB set to 'full' and my TV (Sony Bravia KDL-40W4500) definitely supports it.
  • aidey6 #67 3 years ago

    Looks like one of the best games ever to grace the PS3, the PCM 7.1 sound was pretty good too, also no infinite enemies ala COD4 either, the default controls took some getting used to, the Helghast seemed to have pretty good AI considering it was only on trooper skill level. I will stick with my pre order of this title
  • MrE26 #68 3 years ago

    @m0thr4

    A bore? How so? It's a simple fact, if your screen isn't showing the logo at all then it's not displaying the full range of colours & your blacks are being crushed. It might look fine to you, but you'll be losing detail in dark areas.
  • FooAtari #69 3 years ago

    Having downloaded the demo last night just gave it ago. Initial impressions its a vast improvment over the first game. Technically its a good looking game, but yet another game full of browns and greys.

    I'm not that impressed with controls, not sure if its the pad but I always find FPS's on PS3 don't play well. It's almost like playing with a dpad. There is analoge up/down/left/right and not much in between. It really tough to aim accuratly and make small movements, like there is a large deadzone.

    And is no one else sick of macho marines, Halo, Gears, Turok, KZ full of macho marines with cheesy cringe worthy lines, its getting boring.

    It's a solid enough FPS but not quite as good as the EG review makes it out to be.

    m0thr4 - check the noise reduction on your telly. I had mine on weak NR, but that was enough to kill the logo. Turned it off, and all's well.

    Took 28 hours to download, but FOOK ME! Never seen anything like it. Not a big FPS fan either, but this is streets ahead of anything I've ever seen or played and it's a defnite first day buy. The AI is uncanny - I crept around the side of the APC that turns up halfway through the demo, shot one of the orange eyed b*stards, then the rest all turned and looked at me before opening fire. Something so simple, but rarely if ever done right. If Sony don't advertise KZ2 to the sky and back, they need their heads examined.

    It reminds me of when wipeout3 came out for the PS1, or Burnout 2 for the PS2 - is so far ahead of everything else at the time, it's like the GPU fairies came in the middle of the night and upgraded my black box. Bodes very well for the future of the PS3 if other devs can start to get this sort of performance (or better) out of the beast. Teh power of teh c3ll doesn't seem quite so daft any more.

    But what's with the cod cockney accents of the Helghast? It's like shooting Vinnie Jones and the cast of EastEnders (not such a bad thing, now I think of it).
  • bad09 #71 3 years ago

    "And is no one else sick of macho marines, Halo, Gears, Turok, KZ full of macho marines with cheesy cringe worthy lines, its getting boring. "

    It's not marines it's shooters. Aim, shoot, move. Aim, shoot, move. Aim, shoot etc,etc. No matter where you set it or how good it looks it's the same. I guess that's why Mirrors Edge was so refreshing - hardly any shooting!

    I said on the demo thread I think that's why KZ2 hasn't impressed me (I will be buying though as my love of MP shooters hasn't died yet and I hear good things of KZ2). Technically and graphically it's surperb and it's a great game from the demo and PS owners should be happy. But personally it's still aim, shoot, move and KZ2 comes when we've had overkill of that over the last couple of years.

    At least stick me in a craft next time please (another subtle hint at G-police/Colony Wars Mr Sony - I can get them in anywhere!), I'm practically done with on foot FPS.
  • m0thr4 #72 3 years ago

    @MrE26

    What do you think I mean? I mean having to set RGB to "limited" every time I play Killzone 2 and then switch back to "Full for everything else will soon become extremely tedious". That setting depends on what your TV supports, and should not have to be changed. I calibrated my TV using the THX calibration tool - I'm not about to muck around with those settings just for one game.... especially when every other game works fine.

    I suspect they might have got the gamma level slightly wrong in this demo, and I hope they fix it for the final release.
