Jedi Knight series on Steam this week

Includes Dark Forces, Mysteries of Sith.

LucasArts plans to release the entire Jedi Knight series on Steam this week, from Wednesday 16th September.

And yes, that includes Dark Forces and Mysteries of the Sith, as well as the more recent Jedi Outcast and presumably Jedi Academy.

There's no word on price, but the LucasArts Twitter urges us to remember it has "been good in the past, right?"

Pop into our Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy reviews for an idea of what to expect.

Oh yeah baby, not just yet though. Got A LOT of games off Steam that I need to get through!

pretty useless. graphic look awful today (there are older games which still look good, they're had another art style and graphics though).
tie fighter for example. looks better than those and also is.

Awesome. Dark Forces 2 still stands as one of the best FPS games I have every played. And I think it even kinda supported widescreen (granted, it was just Vert-, but still).

This is great news. Dark Forces 2 is still one of the best games ever.

I haven't played Mysteries of the Sith in years. My original disc was scratched and I couldn't be bothered with hunting down a new copy on eBay.

    "Wednesday 16th October."

    Oh come on.

I love the first Jedi Knight (or should that be Dark Forces 2?). I was never even into Star Wars until I played that. It got me addicted! The music, the level where the ship is exploding, even the dodgy real-life cutscenes. I've also got a thing for men with beards. Ticks all my boxes!

The most fun I had was picking off Storm Troopers from high ledges with a single blaster shot and watching them fall to their doom. Wonderful stuff!

Awesome, will be picking me up some of that Kyle Katarn action.

Tie Fighter and X-Wing next please. HD'd up and with online. I'd do pretty much anything for that.

Dark Forces was the tipping point in me buying my first PC and leaving Apple Macs behind, for ten years anyway; might not be able to resist in on Steam.

    Er, *this* week. Blush.
  • peak_performance #13 2 years ago

Fucking finally, Lucasarts. These are among the best shooters ever, from a time when almost everything LA touched turned to gold.
  • Canyarion #14 2 years ago

I loved the original Jedi Knight, but I never got to finish it. Also, after at least 6 hours in, I barely had any Force powers... did I miss something important?

Would be nice if they improved the graphics a bit.

I've not bought any old games off Steam. Do they have full Vista support, etc. like GOG do?

I am trying to work out whether the "been good in the past, right?" quote is a reference to the price or the fact that there have not been some "stellar" titles from LucasArts recently...
  • cianchristopher #17 2 years ago

Woah! I remember when Dark Forces II came out back in 97 - I downloaded the demo on my old 28.8kpbs (or maybe it was 56.6kbps?) modem. I waited all day for it to finish...

It was worth it, though! Bloody great game!

Steam is turning out great for retro PC gaming, I picked up the Fallout collection recently and I'm enjoying it. Really getting back into PC gaming these days - it's great!

@kingmob: I have a couple of old games now on Steam and they all work fine on my Vista 64 PC. Could just be lucky though, you never can tell with PCs ;)

Dark Forces is going to be a big shock for people who think that just because its a pure shooter, you can't get lost.

Also there is an excellent Dark Forces mod for Jedi Academy here: http://darkforces.j ediknight.net

Hmm.. is it my memory failing me or did Dark Forces have mouselook? I kind of remember it having the same control scheme as the first Doom, i.e. all keyboard.

It's nearly impossible for me to go back to all keyboard FPS's. But I suck at console FPS's for the very same reason so it might just be me.
  • kingmob #21 2 years ago

@cianchristopher: cheers, think I'll take the risk and get these (again!)
  • Skinme #22 2 years ago

@mkreku: Yep it did have mouse look! But only left to right, not up and down lol. This didn't cause as big a problem as you may think though as the game would automatically aim the weapon up or down in order to pick off storm troopers above or below you.

I still have my original Dark Forces CD (first game I bought on CD too!) and all the other games that came afterwards. Have used DOSbox and other virtual machines in the past to play and all worked on XP. Currently using Windows 7, will try digging them out and seeing what the compatibility is like.

I wonder if I can install and add them to my Steam account.....

I can't wait to get into DF again. I remember looking in envy at my boss of that time. He was a cool dude who smoked weed and played games. I always loved/hated going to his house as he was a PC gamer (at the time I was off amiga and back to consoles so looked in "I can't afford that" envy). DF was so cool - doom with storm troopers and blasters whats not to love?

    I was giddy when a PS1 version was announced.....then I played it.....

Damn if these are cheap I know I'll crack and have EVEN MORE PC backlog. I've still got my eye on KOTOR :)

@Canyarion You upgraded your force powers with stars at the end of each level. IIRC you were awarded with more stars if you did certain things in the level.
  • N-Al #25 2 years ago

    Sweet. That is all.

+infinity for the Xwing / Tie Fighter stuff. Please LA do the same sort of compiliation for them! Original XWing + expansion, Tie Fighter + expansion, XWing vs Tie + expansion and XWing Alliance please. All in a nifty package thats Vista/Win7 compatible, and with updated graphics and updated imuse.

another vote for X-Wing/Tie fighter compilation. updated models/textures/lighting would be nice.

Whenever Lucasarts is mentioned, calls for X-wing/Tie fighter usually follow in the comments/forums. Surely Lucasarts must be aware of this?

Jedi outcast got 7/10, i remeber that game as being stellar. Definietly one of the best SW games to be released.
Also i loved Darkforces 2, more FMV in games today please :D

    Edit\
Jedi Outcast got 89 on metacritic so it seems, it wasent just me who loved that game.
