Indie horror The Path launches News

PC News by Robert Purchese

19 March, 2009

Indie outfit Tale of Tales has released its PC horror game, The Path.

The Path can be picked up for USD 10 (GBP 7) from the Tale of Tales website, Steam or Direct2Drive.

The Path, inspired by Little Red Riding Hood, follows the journeys of six girls sent to their grandmother's house, one by one. Alone on the errand, exploration of the forest soon tempts the girls, and plenty of rewards await the curious. But within each forest lives a wolf - one whose appearance and intent will not always be apparent.

Tale of Tales describes The Path as "a calm and introverted computer game that finds itself a cosy place in the dark corners of your soul". Apparently The Path explores the artistic potential of the medium, focusing on slow and considered options rather than fast and frantic reactions. The arty screenshots and videos look promising.

Head over to The Path gamepage to find out more.

Already bought my deluxe edition version :D Tale of Tales rock.

And seeing as the deluxe ones aren't posted out until the 30th, I just bought it on Steam, too...

I've been following it for a while, it's one of those "Journey greater than the destination" games. I'm interested but i want a demo or trial version first before buying.

I'm really tempted to buy this without any reviews just so nothing gets spoiled. And £7 isn't that much.

That -sounds- awesome! Reminiscent of Angela Carter's 'Company of Wolves'. Could be right up my alley.

If only I had something to play it on.. (I lead a Mac/360/DS/iPhone lifestyle - my Pentium II PC died years ago.) Please to be reviewing, EG??

$10 is a price I feel I can pay purely to see what the game is like after liking the videos and screens - so I bought it directly from their site. I really like the presentation of it so far, without spoiling anything the game boots up to a character selection screen at once without prompting you for anything at all. Now that itself is a feeling I like and that the games industry itself never seem to warm up to, always telling you to do this and that :)

It's plenty beautiful as well.

It screams "art," so a 9/10 EG review is assured. ;)

@Eraysor, what's your Post Processing Effects set to in options? I got a huge framerate boost turning it down one step from High to Low, way more than I would have thought.

I just downloaded it, it's pretty awesome if you liked Ico or Silent Hill 2, or the 'arty' styling in Braid.

Alright, I got it (when it finishes downloading, I mean). Hopefully I won't have to turn down the details by much... 8600GT isn't exactly a beast, but from the screens, it doesn't look like a beasty game either.

I'm intrigued. I may very well splash out on the collector's edition.

My, my, what a nice game we have here. One sequence was especially creepy, the likes of which I hadn't seen in a long time. For 7.90€ feels like a good deal, especially because I've only played with one girl for now.

Had to put post-processing to medium, but it's still good.

Just checked the website, and it says that a MacOS version is coming "by late April". Fantastic news, as it sounds like I'd really dig this game, but I don't know anyone with a PC anymore.. Which is odd considering I spent my early teens building custom Doom levels and obsessively playing Xcom: Enemy Unknown! ; )

I'll be buying it for sure!
