IGF 2010 winners revealed

Monaco and Limbo are names to watch.

Stylish co-op crime caper Monaco has won top honours at the Independent Games Festival 2010.

Pocketwatch's creation was hailed as Best Independent Game and took home the $20,000 Seamus McNally Grand Prize. Monaco also scooped Excellence in Design.

The other games nominated for the Seamus McNally Grand Prize were Joe Danger, Trauma, Rocketbirds: Revolution! and Super Meat Boy!.

PlayDead's stark platformer Limbo, previewed on the site today, was another multi-award winner, earning Excellence in Visual Art and Technical Excellence. Closure Team's puzzle platformer Closure was recognised for Excellence in Audio.

The renamed Nuovo (Innovation Award), which honours unconventional game development, went to Cactus for puzzle game Tuning.

Finally, the award for Best Student Game went to Ragtime Games' platformer Continuity and IGF Mobile Best Game went to Tiger Style's Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor.

The Direct2Drive Vision Award was given to Press Play's Max & The Magic Marker, and the Audience Award was claimed by Heroes of Newerth by S2 Games.

These winners were picked from 301 entrants and judged by a panel of 170 industry veterans and journalists. Previous winners include Braid, Audiosurf, Castle Crashers and World of Goo.

In other words, remember the name Monaco.

Glad Monaco won! It looks *amaze*. Can't say I'm too taken with the other Seamus nominees, other than perhaps Trauma. Shame that didn't win in the Visual category especially. Thought it looked lovely.

Monaco does look like a great game. It's a shame that Rocketbirds: Revolution didn't win anything; it really is a fantastic game. While it mightn't break too many gameplay molds it is polished to perfection and has some great art direction. The game deserves an award for the intro alone.

I really wasn't keen on Rocketbirds. Tbh, I was very surprised it actually made the Seamus category: it felt pretty bland to me.

And why the hell has this article only got 2 comments?!

Jesus, for shame EG readers, for shame.

Video of Monaco doesn't looks instantly appealing like the previous winners, heck I don't even know what's supposed to be going on. I will keep my eye on it though as it's gotta be doing something right.
