Yeah, you can't see him getting past Manny.

Although I would obviously love it if he did.

Hey Manny may be the favourite(simply because of speed and footwork... speed usually but not always wins over just power alone) but there's a much much better chance of an upset in that fight than the last time Hatton took a shot at the PFP#1 spot.

a)Manny isnt as strong as Mayweather(much smaller guy), thats not to say he couldnt stop Hatton by accumilation if its a complete shutout/ass kicking though.
b)Manny is easier to hit than Mayweather, he comes to fight and has been drawn into brawls many times before... if that happens against Hatton he loses IMO. Manny doesnt like fighting on the back foot, Hatton is pretty good at getting fighters in that mode when he's on form.
    c) Manny hasnt had his chin tested at that weight yet, we dont know how if he can absorb the kind of punishment Hatton can dish out, a fine perfomance against DLH it was but as Roach said himself, he had to be hydrated minutes before coming down to the ring after being weighed(there were bloodspots on his arms from the IV-drips, he looked pale... thats why Roach told Manny to get all over him straight away as they eyed each other up before the first bell, leaving him no time to recover as the fight went on) so he really hasnt tasted the sort of power that a top fighter at that weight can dish out.

I predict an upset(I say "an upset" because Manny has proved himself to be the more skillfull boxer... the better boxer/fighter doesnt always win though, styles make fights as they say) because people including the Pacman camp are in great danger of overconfidence from the DLH win, which simply does not compare to this fight. You'd hope after the Hatton haters told us Paulie Malagnaggi would destroy/embaress Hatton they'd have learned he's actually not "a bum who just holds" afterall(who was doing the holding that night eh? ;) ) and I do beleive a fighter can improve his "game" late on in his career with the right trainer(Mayweather does know his stuff) besides Hatton isnt actually that old he just wants to retire early.

I like both boxers here so Im just looking forward to what should be a great fight and it wouldn't be suprising if Manny does win despite my predition(he's the favourite afterall), seems like its going to do some impressive numbers on the PPV front too

nice post calgon, i agree with all of it, hatton really does have a good chance in this one.

the DLH fight was definitely flattering to manny, as oscar was basically done before the fight, and was a punching bag that night.

either way though this fight cannot fail to excite, cant wait for it!

CountFapula yeah I can see where you are coming from but Im goin with my gut instinct on this one. Theres alot of over confidence from the Pacman side as I said(I fully expect a good fight because the ingredients are there to make this fight of the year, both fighters may hit the canvas, I dont see it being totally one sided as some do), the excuse of "who has he fought?" doesnt work here because Hatton as already fought Mayweather. On that fight I let my dislike for Mayweather cloud my judgement(even though I knew Mayweather was the better boxer), Mayweathers defence was just too good for Hatton and Mayweather was naturally the bigger guy. The difference here is Hatton is the naturally bigger guy, he can also catch Manny and probably will, it will depend on how clean he does get through and whether Manny can absorb it, oh and the bodyshot could also be another question mark... there are many more question marks here.

Theres question marks on Hatton's side too, how much has he learned from Mayweather Snr and will he go back to old ways if Manny manages to frustrate him? Im pretty sure thats a big part of the plan for the pacman camp, a frustrated Hatton is a predictable Hatton.

I think I'll probably have a better idea at the weigh in, Manny will be on form as usual(he's consistantly good and deserves to be the favourite, my head says Pacman but my gut says Hatton), it depends which Hatton shows up to fight him IMO, the first 3 rounds will be vital for either boxer.

Well fights finnished, how dissapointing was that fight? Hatton should retire now and Im pretty sure he will.

Ive got to say it Roach deserves his props for that and Manny of course, he was dead right Hatton never showed any evidence of what he'd worked on in the gym, he did go back to old ways(he caught one good hook and then the head movement went as he came forward with his chin wide open), came out throwing too many hooks allowing Manny so many chances to time what they'd been working on; it worked so well infact it almost looked choreographed.

Manny actually suprised me with his power more than anything(I knew the speed and movement and technique was there), even if speed and technique was a big part of it, he showed he can atleast knock people out at that weight but not only that... he can do it with both hands by the looks of it now(well it would appear so, unless Hattons punch resistance has depleted totally; he looked ready to give up after the first round to me). What he hasnt shown yet is whether he can take the haymakers at that weight as I said before the fight because Hatton didnt have even land much of note, showed no patience whatsoever.

Ah well its just as well though, Manny was by far the better boxer going into the fight as I said, so it wouldnt have been right considering Hatton as the P4P king as likeable as he is. Mayweather Jr seemed to know this would happen already, there's no way he would have come out of retirement just for a remach with Hatton.

At first I was thinking Mayweather would just have too much of a size advantage, I think Manny could be the one to give Mayweather the fight of his life and considering the amount of time Mayweather has spent "retired" off and on thats in favour of Pacman. Im not sure what Roach's gameplan would be though, to get past that defence(better than anything he's ever had to tackle) without getting hit is a tall task against someone who has the full skillset and more power than he's ever tasted. I'll be routing for Pacman in that fight regardless.

Edit: What would be even more amusing is if Marquez(no disrespect to him he is a great fighter but Mayweather is expected to win that) gets an upset and we have another Pacman vs Marquez.
