Guitar Hero II solus for Xbox 360 News

Xbox 360 News by Tom Bramwell

8 January, 2008

Activision has confirmed to Eurogamer that it is set to release a standalone version of Guitar Hero II for Xbox 360 in the UK so that people who started off with the third game in the series can go back and see what the fuss was about.

Guitar Hero II's solus release will be arriving in shops in the UK on 25th January, in line with reports last week.

In case you've forgotten, number 2 included the likes of Kansas' "Carry on Wayward Son", Foo Fighters' "Monkey Wrench", Alice in Chains' "Them Bones", Guns N' Roses' "Sweet Child O' Mine", Rage Against The Machine's "Killing in the Name" and The Allman Brothers Band's Top Gear theme, or rather "Jessica".

The game was the first in the series to have co-operative play, although it isn't as developed as GH3's and there's no online play.

So, if you're looking forward to looking back, why not pop your face inside our Guitar Hero II Xbox 360 review and find out whether it's worth your licks.

I tried to use my new GHIII expert skills on my half-formed GHII skills but found that it was nearly impossible to play because all of the notes are luminous and make HO/POs very difficult.

Nicely done, Activision!

I was hoping for an announcement of this sort after moving my GH habit over to the 360.

So much for the scalpers on eBay asking £50+ for the game only! Huzzah!! \o/

GHII songs > GHIII songs..

guitar hero 3 seems to be a chore compared to the first and second iterations..
it seems to have become more about psuedo-guitar masturbation and less about playing songs that are enjoyable to play.

it's like Trapped In The Closet parts 12 onwards with R. Kelly becoming aware of it's poularity and trying to make it serious and funny. He has however, failed on both counts.

in closing, GHII FTW.. :3

Yeah, the price is the really important part. I'd like to have it on 360, but I certainly wouldn't pay full price for a game I've bought before.

I spent months waiting for solo guitars to be released. Eventually, I sent someone to America with instructions to get be one from Red Octane. It eventually appeared around a month before GH3 was released. It would have meant more coop on the Xbox, but it wasn't so bad as I already had it and two guitars for the PS2.

People complain a lot about GH2's soundtrack, but I really enjoyed all of it. The real versions that GH3 sells on are nice, but there's still plenty of covers of songs I'd never heard of before. But I've been fine with that since the beginning, as I like hearing songs I've never heard before.

But will they allow use to use the Guitar Hero III controller? Wouldn't want Activision lose profits!

If it's about £20 then I'll have it.

Really enjoying GHIII - just moved from Easy to Medium which threw me a bit (you want me to use an extra button and play faster - aghh!) but I'm getting there now.

Well done Activision.

Now is there any chance of you troubling yourselves into releasing the PS3 patch to enable us to actually play GH3, you lazy hapless bunch of cretinous wankers.

Not that im irate about it, or anything....or the Rock Band patch, for that matter...

12 of the songs from GH1 were made available to download for GH2 on XBox 360. Unfortunately Cream - Crossroads, Pantera - Cowboys from Hell, Helmet - Unsung or Burning Brides - Heart Full of Black can't be found amongst them, but there's still a good selection. There's also several other download packs available for GH2 which are worth looking into.

I bought this from Play-Asia (yes it's region free) just before Christmas for the very same reason. Treated myself to GHIII and after loving it decided I wanted GHII aswell.

It came to about £31.50 including postage. Only downer was the delivery time, around 1-2 weeks if I remember correctly.

EDIT: Oh yeah and they're all covers :o( They murdered 'Sweet Child 'O Mine' and 'Killing In The Name'.
