Guitar Hero 360 DLC hints

Songs from Guitar Hero 1.

RedOctane's head of publishing says we can probably expect to see songs from the original Guitar Hero made available for Xbox 360 owners to download when Guitar Hero II launches on the Microsoft system this spring.

"While the songs that will be available for download through the Xbox Live Marketplace have yet to be confirmed, we can assure our fans that they can likely expect to see these songs," Dusty Welch told GameSpot.

"Through the feedback we've received from fans and from reading the message boards and other forums, we know that this is what everyone wants because of the awesome set list from some of the most legendary rock bands and artists ever!"

Welch also spoke out about the decision to pass Guitar Hero development onto Neversoft, although - come to think of it - he didn't really say anything substantive.

"Neversoft's extensive resume of successfully developing blockbuster franchises speaks for itself. Sales of the Tony Hawk franchise exceed more than $1 billion worldwide.

"With such an amazing track record, we're confident that their team of passionate developers will take Guitar Hero to another level in terms of the overall gameplay experience," he oozed.

And of course the series' gameplay will remain distinctive and blah blah blah. The real question is, what are Harmonix up to? Welch isn't prepared to say, or to comment on speculation that the developer's sale to MTV had something to do with its sidelining.

"In looking toward the future, we believe it was a natural and neutral decision for us to look at other opportunities. We look forward to partnering with Neversoft's development team, and can't wait to show our fans what we have in store for them," Welch concluded.

Of course he won't comment on the MTV thing... It's called keeping your job.

To get to the actual news within: Great news, everyone! Guitar Hero Complete Collection+

YES. This makes me so much more excited. I cannot remember the last time a game had me so excited before it's launch. This game is perfect for downloadable content and I really, really hope that they release the old songs since I never played GH and I'd hate to miss out on the great songs the first one featured.
  • Ikari2001 #3 5 years ago

yet surely, they could have included them in with GH2? no, they want us to buy them. That's just me being cynical...

but otherwise, will buy it as soon as released ^_^

GH1 games with co-op and practice mode!

The man's a walking press release!
  • kincaide #6 5 years ago

Hang on, hang on, hang on - what about "The Trooper". Confirmed or not??
  • monkey_man #7 5 years ago

Awesome - any GH news is good news in my book. Shame I've got 1 + 2 on PS2 already, downloadable content should be cool.

Harmonix owned by MTV... interactive Guitar Hero TV channel, anyone?

P.S. "Dusty Welch" = "Busty Wench"?

The new Guitar Hero 2 HO-PO management + Texas Flood Expert = finally I will be able to grab 5 stars on it too?

Btw, 5 starring the whole Hard mode in GH2 was quite easy, with all the training done on GH1... I've already 4 starred all the levels but the last at GH2 Expert (and 5 starred a nice bunch of songs too), but I still haven't managed to finish Freebird as solos I and J are killing me...

Is no-one else slighty nervous that development duties have been passed onto Neversoft...? No doubts that they are a talented team but, outside of Tony Hawks, their successes are few... Hopefully they won't taint the otherwise perfect record of Guitar Hero so far.
  • djchump #10 5 years ago

Anyone know for definite if these will be re-authored songs to include a second playable instrument? i.e. if they'll be playable in 2-player co-op mode like Guitar Hero 2, or whether it's a straight port of the songs so they'll be 1 player only?

Although, it'd be worth it for practice mode as I *still* haven't done Bark At The Moon on Expert :-D

guitar hero + achievements = awesome!

I can't imagine Neversoft can really damage a game where all they have to do is input new chords.

Great news for 360 owners who never played the original on PS2.

Anybody know an accurate release date? I have heard March stated - but I am not sure if that is US and/or Europe - and I can't find any confirmation anwhere?
  • Der_tolle_Emil #14 5 years ago

I only heard March 1st for the US release. I hope it's not too far off for Europe. Importing may become a bit expensive with the guitars. And there is a possibility that DLC may be region locked in some ways, though I doubt it but I definetly don't want to take that risk.

    @sanctusmortis:
    - Considering the type of music predominantly found in Tony Hawk games, they could do serious damage by not having any decent songs in the next instalments.
    - Setting up fingering in all 4 difficulties that is well-balanced and still fun to play is not that easy (see all those user-created ones floating around the net), and something Hermonix was pretty good at.
    - It's not clear whether they'll be using Wave Labs (or whatever they're called) to handle the recording of the covers, so the quality of those could potentially really slip as well.
    - No Harmonix probably means no Freezepop
    - They could put in more tracks by Made In Mexico

@article: He says that RO and Harmonix basically saw eye to eye on the entire GH1 & GH2 development, and the games were hugely successful - so, no I don't think it's a "neutral and natural decision" to switch to a different developer.

Well, I'm seriously hoping that the RRP is wrong in the Play product page, since it can't cost any more to build the 360 peripheral than the PS2 one.
  • valensi #17 5 years ago

whoah, £65?! Was really looking forward to getting this but if its really gonna be £65 i guess i'll be playing the ps2 versions for a year till it gets cheaper.

Anyone know how the XBL downloads will work? WIll it be pay x amounts of xbox points for 1 downloadable song or will they come in 5s / 10s?
  • deepspacefox #18 5 years ago

What I find quite amusing is that just over a year ago Red Octane was struggling for a publisher for the PAL version of GH1. No-one wanted it!
I remember this because I was very close to importing the US version and just chipping my PS2 before RO decided to risk publishing it themselves.
Now that its making money, look how many people want to be their friends.
  • byronicman_again #19 5 years ago

The Play date is incorrect, fyi.
  • captainrentboy #20 5 years ago

I hope the 360 guitar peripheral is a bit longer than the PS2's.For sasquatch men like myself it's like playing on a fookin banjo.
