GTAIV Episodes coming to PC and PS3

Disc and download, 30th March.

Rockstar has announced that Grand Theft Auto: Episodes from Liberty City will be released for the PS3 and PC on 30th March.

As with the original releases for Xbox 360, the two episodes will be available on a standalone disc in the shops, or as add-ons for GTAIV that can be downloaded from PlayStation Network and Games for Windows Live. PC players will enjoy the added benefits of 32-player multiplayer and an advanced video editor.

According to Kotaku, the Episodes disc will cost $39.99 in the US, with the individual downloads costing $19.99 each. There's no word on UK or European pricing yet.

"It's been a long time coming, but we are proud to finally deliver Episodes From Liberty City for the PC and PlayStation 3," said Rockstar boss Sam Houser. "We appreciate the patience of our PlayStation 3 and PC fans worldwide, and we look forward to putting the games in your hands this March."

The episodes were originally announced as exclusive to Xbox 360, although an achievement list for The Lost and Damned on PC turned up late last year.

Brilliant, absolutely fantastic news... oh wait March you say? I think i'm broke that month.
  • bad09 #2 2 years ago

Yay! I got this but pretty much traded in the 360 version without playing it after I heard about the PC achievements, I just couldn't play it on 360 after playing the sexy PC GTA4 :)

/ adds to the now growing March list, sits in the corner, crys wondering WHERE the money will come from for all these games in 2010

    Vice City FM FTW!

  • WiseGuy #4 2 years ago

Yea pleased about this but as 52 alluded to - its a busy period for games then!
  • NotSoSlim #5 2 years ago

Should be able to pick up cheap so time to boost trophy collection I think
  • FutureDave #6 2 years ago

So that $50 million MS paid was just for a time exclusive? Blimey.
  • The-Bodybuilder #7 2 years ago

So rather than investing that £50mil into a new game (shenmue 3), they spent it on this "exclusive".

    Smart MS, smart.
  • hiddenranbir #8 2 years ago

I totally forgot I had this game. Sweet.
  • cianchristopher #9 2 years ago

    Jesus, that was (un)expected!!!

Congrats PS3!! Good things come to those who wait!!!
  • captain_Carl #10 2 years ago

Could have chosen a better month...

Haven't played GTAIV in ages, very much doubt i will buy these and go back...But hey, you never know - strange things can happen in the summer drought
  • Markitron #11 2 years ago

I have GTA4 on the PS3 and originally wanted these episodes, just cant bring myself to buy them on account of rockstars greed. Also its a 2 year old game........................
  • X201 #12 2 years ago

    Thank god.

No more of that "Liberty City Stories only on Xbox 360" ad. They were spamming it to death over Christmas.

  • jag10 #13 2 years ago

    Another timed exclusive..............
  • Cyclone #14 2 years ago

Didn't expect it to come out on PS3 that quickly; I'd imagined it'd be another 6 months to a year based on the amount of time it took GTA III, Vice City and San Andreas to be released on the first Xbox. Great news; it'll be nice to be able to play the Episodes with the classic control scheme.

It just makes me wonder how long it'll take for them to release Agent on the 360 once it comes out on the PS3. The whole thing really does drive home the point of how annoying timed exclusivity really is. Sure it might be good for Rockstar's bank balance, but it doesn't benefit us gamers one bit, regardless of what console(s) we own.

what greed? the GTA episodes are probably the two best pieces of DLC in terms of value in this entire generation.
  • imamazed #16 2 years ago

May I take this chance to welcome PS3 and PC owners to Yusuf Amir. You won't be disappointed.
  • Markitron #17 2 years ago

The greed I was referring to was the timed exclusive deal, im not knocking the quality at all

I'm going to have to wonder if Microsoft really did spend 50 million for this content. If that's the case, then I'd be totally amazed if there wasn't a clause to stop it ever coming to another console. I guess the 50 million thing was just a wild rumour after all. Either that or someone's ass needs firing.

Edit: Before there is some crazy misunderstanding I have to say I'm coming at this from a "They spent how much and it's still not exclusive" stance and not an "I don't want it on PS3 or PC" stance. In fact I much prefer the PC version.

    @penhalion

As I understood it MS didn't just pay Rockstar $50m for exclusivity - it was an cash advance/loan, probably with good rates for Rockstar. I don't think anyone would just pay out $50m for an exclusive, let alone for DLC.

I bought GTAIV for £5 in the Steam sale, but unfortunately it's one of only 2 games I've come across that my processor couldn't handle. Still, guess that means the DLC can wait, which is a good thing because it would be kind of crazy to pay 3 times as much for DLC as I did for the original game itself!

Don't want to crash the party, but do you guys realy think MS became one of the richest company in the world by being conned/stupid ? Idk, but, if you think about it, some allegations on - game sites - doesn't make sense. Just thinking about it, I have no facts, just like everybody else.
  • ignatiusjreilly #21 2 years ago

another xbox exclusive gone, what's left? just halo?

I'd be happy if there was no such thing as exclusives. It's a good practice for companies, not so good for gamers.
  • jidnffc #22 2 years ago

I am a Microsoft fan boy and no-one cares anymore. Everyone knows no-one buys 2 year old games anyway. Xbox roolz!

    or

I am a Sony fan boy and getting these proves we're better. It doesn't matter that they're 2 years old. PS3 roolz!

I may have betrayed myself there by using decent grammar for 95% of the sentence.

More games available to more people is always good, although would be nice if the whole timed exclusive idea didn't seem so money grabbing.
  • VandelayIndustries #23 2 years ago

So with this news and the whole Fallout 3 DLC debacle, it's safe to assume that Mass Effect 1 & 2 will be coming over to the PS3 at some point this year? And should Microsoft ever announce more third party exclusive content we'll just have add the 'Timed' part ourselves, lest they forget ;)
  • Peew971 #24 2 years ago

Since developers and publishers seem to care less and less about exclusives, we might as well have just one console.
  • lunnytoon #25 2 years ago

Been hoping this would come to the PC since i completed GTAIV, so i am really happy to hear this news.

I have been tempted to pick the episodes up for the 360, but i am glad i waited now.
  • sfp_noodle #26 2 years ago

hmm given its history, i can seriously see splinter cell conviction being ported at some point in the future too. also, mass effect no longer bears the 'only on xbox' logo and left 4 dead 1 or 2 doesnt hvae it either. i can see all three of those games coming to sonys console eventually.

also, i agree timed exclusives are annoying as fuck, but many many gamers will choose a certain platform over another just to get something earlier. look at modern warfare 2. if sony managed to get a 30 day advance on the dlc maps like MS did, dont u think most gamers wud buy the ps3 version? (assuming they had multiple consoles of course)

p.s im also one of the people who bought gta 4 on 360 for the supposedly exclusive dlc - nearly 2 years later im jus 51% thru the game and havent touched it in over a year, let alone got the dlc. im sure im missing out. but theres far too much good shit to play!

    edit: spelling etc

IF, and it's a big IF, MS paid 50 mil for this then I am astounded. I honestly don't know what they're playing at.

Let me make one thing clear, I don't think 3rd party games should be exclusive when you have a strong market on all systems however almost all their 3rd party exclusives become multiplatform yet hardly any PS3 ones do. What the fuck are MS doing....

Supposedly paying 50 mil for this, rumors that they are partially funding Jap titles only for them to be released on PS3 later with more content, securing multiplatform for FFXIII without a Japan release where they need it most AND stupid 1 - 3 month 'exclusives' that basically foster a view point that "I won't buy a 360 because game X will be released on PC/PS3 later"

I agree with Miiiguel that I can't believe MS are THAT stupid but then I look at all the examples I've just listed and get confused. ;)

I'm happy that PS3 owners got Bioshock, Braid, Liberty City, Ninja Gaiden 2 etc, etc but I want bloody Yakuza, Valkyria Chronicles & Demon Souls! :(

    * I realise that ME, L4D and GOW are in the same boat but I think these are exceptions to the rule and the reasons behind them are well known.

If i was being one of those horrid shareholder types I would say that MS need to buy more studios rather than sell them, secure publishing deals which appear to work better than paid for exclusives (Heavy Rain, Gow) or just buy the exclusivity outright and take ownership of the IP.
  • Anhunedd #28 2 years ago

  • Mkwone #29 2 years ago

More likly MS made a hell of a lot of money on this exclusive DLC and now that the product is reaching it's saturation point on the console they're alowing Sony to promote the game for them with their inevitable 'now on...' adverts.

Or Ms haven't made the money they'd hoped and so sold the exclusivity

  • GundamJehutyKai #30 2 years ago

I know that they have been out for a while now but c'mon.

$50 million for a timed exclusive? Must be nice to be able to throw money down the toilet like microsoft.
  • Darren #31 2 years ago

I'd love to say I'm surprised at this announcement but I'm not as I always had a feeling it was coming, particularly after someone found references to the DLC in the last PC patch. Still good news for PC and PS3 owners. Never did get round to picking up The Ballad of Gay Tony for the 360 though so I may get it for the PC instead now. Depends on what else is out in March really.
  • Darren #32 2 years ago

@cragtek - The PC version of GTA IV certainly looks sharper and cleaner, thanks to the higher resolution, but the lack of support for anti-aliasing hurts a bit (why, oh why, was it omitted?). At 1920x1200 jaggies are still very noticeable even with blur filter enabled.
  • Zebula77 #33 2 years ago

Anybody know if the video editor will be available for the PS3? I would LOVE to play around with that. I've seen some of the user made vids and one or two are bloody awesome.

Definitely getting these in March. Friend of mine (who owns a 360) claims the Ballad of Gay Tony is better than the main game, so I'm excited about that.
  • metallicorphan #34 2 years ago

    @VanderlayIndustries

i don't think Mass Effect 1 will appear on the PS3 as its published by Microsoft(it was released before Bioware was bought by EA)..but i am pretty confident that Mass Effect 2 will appear on the PS3...as soon in interviews when they said you don't have to play the first to play the second i thought it would happen

i don't really see anyone losing out here,360 players who are that concerned would of already played the DLC and PS3 and PC players can now get it

i don't even think MS would of lost out,i bet they still prolly would of made a profit from the DLC,if not directly from the two episodes then the more sales of GTA4 back in April 2008 for the 360 as when it was released everyone knew the 360 was getting the DLC then

hopefully this will be a sign of things to come,i have both a 360 and a PS3 and yes i do play on my 360 more, but i prefer exclusive games to the systems...not DLC
  • carrotcake #35 2 years ago

Wish the dlc versions worked without GTA4 game disc. I got rid of my copy. Might just get this on disc then
  • bad09 #36 2 years ago

    @ carrotcake

It's worth going for the disc version if you love good old Vice City as I'm sure it will be the same as 360 versions and you get Vice City FM on the disc set, a couple of people said you didn't get that on the DLCs.
  • IneptPercy #37 2 years ago

Recently got the PC version oon steam for £5 and sold my 360 copy on ebay, glad I can get the rest on the PC now.
  • cherryuk #38 2 years ago

I haven't completed GTAIV yet, so this is good news that the episode discs are coming out!
  • makeamazing #39 2 years ago

I havent done that much in the game (only just got to the top half of the first island), so still lots to do, but will get this when it comes out, so i have something else in the queue of games to look forward too.... cant wait for the next few weeks to fly buy so the games I want can start appearing.

The first 4 months of this year is just crazy for games :)
  • jefranklin18 #40 2 years ago

So are both episodes worth getting or is one better than the other? The Ballad of Gay Tony looks more like the old school GTA with heavy doses of humour, whereas the Lost & the Damned looks, I dunno, kind of boring.
  • Burkey123 #41 2 years ago

Yes, loved GTAIV and have been waiting for these to come to PS3 for a while. Great news!
Question: Should I download them or get the disc version?
  • mkreku #42 2 years ago

Hehe, and I just reinstalled GTA4 on my PC to see if I couldn't squeeze out some more fun from it. I couldn't. But this DLC will!
  • Mono_X #43 2 years ago

'Don't want to crash the party, but do you guys realy think MS became one of the richest company in the world by being conned/stupid ?'

They paid $375 million for RARE didn't they! And nearly half of that went to Nintendo no less.
  • Machiavellian #44 2 years ago

I am sure MS paid for two GTA Timed exclusive DLC but the 50 mil price tag is looking suspect. 50M can fund a brand new game and I highly doubt MS would spend that kind of money for a timed DLC without the stipulation "Only on 360".

Also rumored with that agreement was that MS and RS would split the revenue 50/50. It could be that if MS did spend 50 mill on GTA4 DLC that they could have given RS the green light to provide the content to the PS3 if the same 50/50 split of the revenue exist for all platforms.

At this time, releasing the content for the PS3 isn't going to make a difference one way or the other to sell more 360 hardware or GTA4 software. It probably does make sense to recoup as much profit as you can from the DLC.
  • steagz #45 2 years ago

YER THATS RIGHT THE PC VERSION LOOKS A LOT BETTER IF YOU WANT TO PAY UP TO A GRAND TO GET A PC POWERFULL ENOUGH TO RUN IT PROPERLY
  • craigm #46 2 years ago

my pc cost me £260 to build and GTA 4 looks and runs better on it than it does on the ps3 or 360
  • miiiguel #47 2 years ago

@KingAntoine : it wasn't 50 million, it was 50 Billion! Learn to read the facts!

Btw, after whining about "da 360 fanboys" your 4 posts so far on Eg.pt are a good example of a good community member. Welcome sir.

that was sarcasm, just in case you didn't notice

  • Mnia786 #48 2 years ago

Lmao, 50 million and I was screaming to people its a timed exclusive, nothing more. Once again, ALL 360 "Exclusives" end up on PC as ever...
Wont be buying them tbh, GTA IV was a huge disappointment to a fan from 97 so not on my shopping list.
  • Murton #49 2 years ago

MS spend 50 million and the 360 gets two add-ons for GTA4

Sony spends 50 million and the PS3 gets Uncharted 1 AND 2.

I believe any way that you look at it, that's a Sony win. Shame MS doesn't see the need to invest in its first party studios, that money could have made two GOTY Award winners...
  • F3nNec #50 2 years ago

    patience brings roses...
  • bealios #51 2 years ago

Don't care what MS spent to be honest. Competition is supposed to be good for consumers, and this daft console race is the very opposite. Unless you're an enthusiast both consoles are pretty much the same, the only differentiating factor seems to be the "exclusives", which amounts to a company deciding that it wants to make more profit by paying an obscene amount of cash to another company to prevent a large proportion of people in the world (those who can't afford two consoles and who chose the other one) playing a particular game. Sony are as guilty as MS.

I've got a PS3, but would love to be able to play Fable II and Mass Effect 2. At the same time, as a fan of gaming in general I think that all gamers hould experience Uncharted 2 for example.
  • Badassbab #52 2 years ago

Timed exclusives kinda suck but it probably does make a difference in console sales when games like GTA are involved.
  • obscured021 #53 2 years ago

i got GTA first on my 360 as i did not want to wait for the pc version, but im happy i did not pick up the other 2 as DLC as i will wait for the pc version
  • tossum #54 2 years ago

@ steagz: you can build a pc for the price of a ps3 which will probably be roughly half a generation more advanced in terms of graphical capabilities (with maybe a bit of overclocking here or there).
e.g. my CPU cost 45 quid (E5200), its a dual core running at 3.5Ghz; my GPU is a radion 4870 and cost 75 quid (both from ebuyer).
GTA4 with all settings on high NEVER drops below 35fps. I'm loving it all over again.
