GTA IV console bundle coming?

Sony declines to comment.

Sony has done a Microsoft and declined to comment on rumour or speculation.

That'd be rumour and speculation about a possible GTA IV-themed PlayStation 3 bundle. According to GTAgaming, such a thing is now on sale at Swedish retailer Webhallen. Apparently SEK 449 (GBP 380 / EUR 480) will get you a copy of the game and a 40GB console.

Sony declined to say anything about it, telling Eurogamer, "We can't comment on rumour or speculation." Doesn't seem too far-fetched, though.

FYI: Eurogamer is officially backing Sweden in this year's Eurovision Song Contest. All together now, "Taking a fight is the life of a hero, staying alive..."

Grand Theft Auto IV is out on PS3 and Xbox 360 on April 29th.

    Why do you need a 40gb HD in your console when you're not getting downloadable content?

    im also worried about the ps3 version. Everything we have seen so far is 360 code and its glitchy as hell. If the 360 code is that bad (and thats the one they are showing so we assume the best) then how glitchy is the PS3 one going to be. It could be like play by mail.

    Im a PS2 owner and will be getting a PS3 so im a bit worried by this.

    Good bundle here - £200 for Premium Xbox and GTA IV. Can't see Sony competing with that really.

    where are all these glitchy 360 gameplay videos then? all i've seen is some trailers made out of cutscenes that aren't representative of the gameplay at all...

    Webhallen is usually very legit. Check out the pre-order page for a picture of the bundle.

    "where are all these glitchy 360 gameplay videos then? all i've seen is some trailers made out of cutscenes that aren't representative of the gameplay at all."

    Fair enough but of those cut scenes etc (using the games engine) the frame rate is awful.

    I agree the framerates looked shite.

    Maybe the 360 can't handle it ;)
  • Darren #13 4 years ago

    Is that price correct... a 40 GB HDD PS3 plus GTAIV costs £380 equivalent? I didn't realise that there was a country in Europe that had more outrageous pricing than the UK but clearly Sweden is one of them when you could buy the console and game separately for as little as £340 online here, and the bundle would presumably be cheaper than that! :o
  • WinterSnowblind #14 4 years ago

    @Swam

    If you're 360 is making that much noise, there's something wrong with it.
    My 360 makes no more noise than my PS2.

    But while we're doing the cheap blows. Enjoy your finger cramps, from holding down that right trigger for more than 2 minutes :)
  • Darren #15 4 years ago

    Re: GTAIV - From what I've read it seems that the Xbox 360 version has the worst framerate, which is improved almost to that of the PS3 version by the optional HDD install. The PS3 version also has more traffic and pedestrians apparently too plus an exclusive splitscreen multiplayer mode not present in the 360 version. Obviously, the PS3's HDD install is not optional but it seems that even the 360 version really needs installing if you want the best framerate during gameplay and avoid the police suddenly popping into view! How this will effect Arcade/Core owners without the HDD remains to be seen...

    @Swarm

    Well done on quoting a completely bs article, both versions will likely be identical.
    I own both consoles so not a fanboy, in fact if the PS3 version had the DLC i would be getting that version because my PS3 is new n shiny(and quiet!). But the 360 pad and DLC will make up for the noise.

    That review has been debunked. get over it.
  • Olemak #18 4 years ago

    Sony did an Assassins Creed bundle, so there's precedence for a non-platform-exclusive bundle even though most of the bundles so far have been with PS3 exclusive games. I bet we'll see lots of GTA bundles fr both the xbox and the PS3.

    The price at webhallen is pretty steep, but then again sweeden has 20 or 24 percent VAT I think; that tends to drives prices up a bit.

    Charlotte Pirelli is skinnier than death; she's probably going to snap in half during the finale. Poor thing.

    The xbox bundle deal is indeed good value. Still - concidering the reliability and noie issues, the xbox is becoming "the poor man's console". Microsoft's clearly aiming for the mass market now, but seriously, they are weighted down by a soiled public image. Fanboys will hate me for stating the obvious here, but the Xbox is now the cheapest current-gen console. And "cheap" is rarely perceived as "good". I think the PS3 GTA bundles will outsell Xbox GTA bundles significantly. Me, I sure would not want one.
  • WinterSnowblind #19 4 years ago

    @Darren

    That "review" was proved to be fake. None of the information in there is true. And all of the actual sites that have had previews have claimed that both versions of the game are virtually identical. There were complaints of the PS3 versions having a stuttering framerate a few months back, but that's supposedly been fixed.
  • mikew1985 #20 4 years ago

    @Darren

    Do you actually believe any of that?

    An exclusive split screen mode and more traffic?! did you read that aloud?
    Again that is a rumor started on a PS3 fansite.

    Exclusive split screen mode... really?

    Really!

    ...c'mon

    What do you do when you don't have exclusive episodic DLC for your console?

    You get desperate and bundle it with the damn thing!
  • Darren #22 4 years ago

    @mikew1985 - I didn't say I believed or disbelieved it, I just posted what I'd read that's all. ;)

    Like many I'd imagine, I'm very dubious about the PS3 version being better based on personal experience of multiformat titles on the console (I do own a PS3) so my pre-order for the Xbox 360 version has been in place at GAME since last July and I see no reason to change it.
  • paulf #23 4 years ago

    isn't the whole reason that gta4 was delayed is so they could brush up the ps3 version, i cant see them taking all that time and releasing one version thats obviously worse than the other
  • mikew1985 #24 4 years ago

    @Darren

    Fair enough, i was just suprised as i have read posts of yours before and knew you were a sensible person.

    I just couldn't see how anyone could believe it i mean you would have to be seriously blinkered to.

    @paulf

    Yes, Rockstar admitted themselves the delay was down to getting the PS3 version up to the 360 version (I think it was on MTV). From the sounds of it they are pretty much identical but I'm sure Headbog and Apologie will say different :)

    I wonder though, how much space this optional 360 install takes?
  • dsmx #26 4 years ago

    I do remember an analyst saying that the ps3 was delaying GTA4 but I don't remember rockstar saying it was the ps3 exclusively that was delaying GTA4.
  • moggsy #27 4 years ago

    Reliability and noise aren't serious issues these days. Mines an early console which isn't that noisy and has only RROD'd once and was fixed for free without much hassle. Both these are tired old arguments.

    Your other argument - the 'it's too cheap' argument I have to admit is a new one (I've not seen it before anyway). I know what you mean about perceived quality but I think what it will come down to is what people can afford. If the Xbox bundle is two thirds the price of the PS3 bundle then I'd be surprised if it doesn't sell more.

    @dsmx

    Yeah it started as a rumour but some guy from Rockstar confirmed it in an interview a while back, they weren't knocking PS3 but said it had proved difficult to make it to the same standard as 360 hence the delay.

    Never mind Canada, blame PS3 :)
  • ps3_2310 #29 4 years ago

    The game was delayed becasue not all 360's have the HDD. And they had to get all the data on the 4.7 GB they have.
  • bad09 #30 4 years ago

  • Darren #33 4 years ago

  • bad09 #34 4 years ago

    @ps3_2310

    Oh go on be my friend! :)

    Yeah there were loads of rumours flying around but the real reason came out later and that was indeed the PS3.
  • ps3_2310 #35 4 years ago

    Darren ok fair enough

    but it's still not 25GB is it so the cuts had to be made somewere. I reckon it got delayed to get both version looking the best they can

  • Moz #37 4 years ago

    @QPRHOOPS81 im also worried about the ps3 version. Everything we have seen so far is 360 code and its glitchy as hell.

    Was watching the Gametrailer Bonus round the other day and the main guy on there was saying he's only played the PS3 code and really liked it! One of the panel had seen both and seemed to think they were on par with one another.
  • Olemak #38 4 years ago

    "Mines an early console which isn't that noisy and has only RROD'd once and was fixed for free without much hassle. Both these are tired old arguments."

    Well, what's acceptable to some people sounds like a huge no-no in my ears. To me, that sentence sounds about as off-putting as this one: "My girlfriend isn't that ugly and has only given me the clap once, and that was fixed for free without much hassle."

    Well okay then.

  • moggsy #39 4 years ago

    @Olemak

    Oh sorry, I forgot to add:

    'and has given me 2 and a half years of fantastic gaming which I've never before experienced on any other console. There are more incredible games available for it than I can afford (in time or money) and Live is streets ahead of the competition.'

    In other words, I never said that my girlfriend was ugly - she's a supermodel so the fact she gave me the clap once is neither here nor there.

    ;-)
  • LetsGo #40 4 years ago

    Being able to 'install it on your PS3' could be the one thing that swings it for Sony...
  • levis #41 4 years ago

    I'm going for the PS3 version, as much I like my 360 I cannot stand the noise it makes with a DVD in the drive!
  • Olemak #42 4 years ago

    Moggsy: hehe, no offence intended mate :)

    My point is merely that to mr. mass market, who cares little about the finer points of gaming, the PS3 could easily look as a superior machine even though both consoles are pretty much equal, but with some sublte differences catering to different tastes. The real differences betwen the platforms are most likely lost on the average, "non-gamer" consumer.

    To some , higher price = higher quality. And when talking to a sales person, arguments like "bluray player" and "reliability issues in the past" might make up for the difference in price. So I'm just saying that for the mass market, ps3 bundled with GTA 4 could seem like a very nice deal.

    I really don't think the exclusive DLC will make any difference for people who don't already own an xbox 360 - in fact, I don't think they'll even be aware of this when they pick a bundle.
  • Darren #43 4 years ago

    @ps3_2310 - GTAIV was designed with the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC in mind from the off and supposedly led on the 360. Two of those systems use DVDs so it makes little difference that the PS3 has 25/50 GB BDs, the code and assets have always been intended to fit on a 7 GB disc so the developers would always been aware of how much space that had to work with. The 360 version was apparently finished late last year but the game missed its original October release date because of problems with the PS3 version, or so I've read. As far I know it had nothing to do with disc space unless the exclusive 360 DLC was originally intended to be in the game but removed due to lack of space. ;)

    I have the old PS2 and the noise it makes is significantly less than my 360. You need to get your ears syringed.

    "Enjoy your finger cramps, from holding down that right trigger for more than 2 minutes"

    ? X is accelerate. Never had finger cramps using a PS controller.
  • Commodore75 #48 4 years ago

    SEK 4499 for a PS3 + GTA4
    That's including our 25% VAT. (So 20% of 4500 means 96€/76£ in VAT)
    As mentioned, webhallen are usually legit, though they can take littel long to ship the stuff (or maybe that has changed lately).
    While I do believe they, on their own initiative, edited the "Buy a x360 HD-DVD add-on, get 5 movies for free"-document, so that it said that it included Sweden, I don't think they have ever done any mockups that were fraudulent/deseifull. (The HD-DVD deal did in fact run in Sweden, it was just MS' documents that, is Swedish, clearly stated that it was only for Grate B.)

    And we are soooo proud of our Charlotte.
    (She won the Swedish qualifier, didn't she?)

    I don't think she looks too skinny. Yes, she's skinny, but it doesn't scare.
    It's her eyes, and general make-up, that freaks me out.

    I know I'm a horrible person for commenting (negatively) on another person's looks/physical appearance...
  • WinterSnowblind #49 4 years ago

    @TagemandBagem

    The right trigger is accelerate.
  • moveteam #50 4 years ago

    Hmm.. this is awkward, Sweden's more expensive than Denmark :Dance:

    4500SEK (Swedish Kronar) is equivalent to 3565 DKK (Danish Kronar), the PS3 cost 2.999 DKK and GTA IV 449 DKK = 4351 SEK.
    Seriously I can't believe it :D

    Raslion: Yes they don't know anything about our sick prices.

    Commondore65: I think it's legit too, no way a retailer would make such a believable picture. When you look at the Xbox 360 bundle it's just the console with the GTA IV game.

    To the Swedish people: "Bare rolig, vi får HELE Skåne tilbage en dag!!"
  • elvenscroll #51 4 years ago

    @zedzee
    What do you do when you don't have exclusive episodic DLC for your console?

    Not care? ;)

    Seriously though, not everyone cares about the DLC.

    On topic, i think a bundle would be a good idea for both consoles. I share the opinion that a lot of people are waiting for GTA IV before buying a 'next gen' machine, and it'll be interesting to see how many of each fly off the shelves.
  • TagemandBagem #52 4 years ago

  • WinterSnowblind #53 4 years ago

    I was talking about GTA IV, where the right trigger is being used to accelerate on both consoles. My point being that the PS3's triggers are fairly awkward and not particularly comfortable to hold down for extended periods of time.
