GOWIII demo inside GOW collection News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

24 September, 2009

Sony has announced that a God of War III demo will be included in the God of War Collection this autumn.

The God of War Collection will provide a code to download the GOWIII demo from the PlayStation Network, GameSpot reports, rather than stuff the sampler on-disc.

There's no solid date for the God of War Collection other than autumn or "holiday". That, we reckon, makes November a solid target.

The Collection, announced at the start of the month, bundles PS2 games God of War I & II on Blu-ray, and furnishes them with tasty 720p visuals. It costs only $40 in the US, supposedly, though no European details have been confirmed.

The sampler arrives a whopping four months ahead of Kratos' PS3 debut, although we know somewhere you can play the game even earlier: the Eurogamer Expo!

During the last week of October we'll be touring the country (well, Leeds and London) offering playable demos of God of War III, Heavy Rain and MAG among many others. And that's just a snapshot of Sony's line-up - head to our EG Expo mini-site for the full, eye-popping roster.

I wonder if the demo with be exclusive to the GOW collection or whether Sony will see sense and also put it on PSN this side of christmas, so as those who don't import GOW collection can sample this too

@aidey6 I read somewhere that it will be exclusive for a while and then be available on PSN - no mention whether this is pre or post christmas though

Can someone pester Sony local, until they open up a bit more about how they intend to get GoW PS2s remastered, here, first?

@aidey6 - obviously they're doing it to boost sales of the game. I've played through both but am going to get it anyway for the 720p visuals and trophy support. The demo is an added bonus!

A nice addition, but I would not have bought the collection just for that. There is no reason to limit any demo to buying any release.

Nice for me, I'd slapped down an import pre-order anyway. Additonal bonuses = good.

I'll be picking up the GOW collection but I've never played one of these, I presume they're a bit of a Ninja Gaiden/Devil May Cry style, string-together-long-combos-whilst-slaughtering-the-populati
on-of-ancient-Greece games?

If I had my BC PS3 I would STILL buy this in advance of the bog standard versions. You're just finding an excuse to embark on a BC rant.

I've already ordered my copy for the spiffed up visuals, and trophy support. The demo however is a lovely bonus.

God Of War came first so it should be Gears Of War which uses a different acronym.

There was a PS3 with backwards compatibility. Most people didn't buy it. If they had, perhaps the feature would have been considered a selling point and worth keeping.

No point whining about it now.

I'd be tempted if the collection was £15 but it will be £30+ and not worth me upgrading my ps2 copies for at that price.

Most people did not buy it because it cost too much at the time. £425 !!!!
Not because they did not want BC.

I'm so looking forward to seeing how they are getting PS2 games to run on the PS3. I'm still sitting at my desk "muttering I'll believe it when I see it!" and rocking back and forth like a loon.

My imported NTSC PS3 cost £300, not really much more than what people were paying for an equivalent 360 setup at the time. Paying as much as £425 was more an option than a 100% certainty.

@cappy

and how much did you pay for your power converter that you need to run that NTSC console here?

You don't need a power converter with an NTSC PS3, even the PSU is multi-region, a standard 3 pin lead, much like you would use with a kettle was all that was required.

All PS3 games are region free, so the US edition of the GOW Collection will work on a UK PS3.
