Gothic dev names next game

Project RPB becomes Risen.

Gothic developer Piranha Bytes has finally decided on a name for Project "RPB"; it will now be known as Risen.

The game, we found out recently, tells the story of a man arriving at the foot of a mysterious volcanic island riddled with ancient ruins and bizarre creatures. Maybe there are rats.

Piranha Bytes is enthusiastic about creating a new setting, and claims the world will appear "dirty and used", and be based on real life rather than Tolkein fantasy.

We know there will be lots of swordplay and sorcery, but otherwise Piranha Bytes and publisher Deep Silver are holding their cards close to their chests until the Leipzig Games Convention later this month.

The game has good pedigree, and we hope to hear more soon.

I wish them luck but Gothic 3 was a dog.

I loved Gothic 3 myself, but I don't think there's much relation: the linked article indicates G3 developed by JoWood after a split with Pirhanna Bytes (argh, spelling.) I'd like to hear more news about Gothic 4 actually.

    I immediately thought of bread.

    Hmm, I feel peckish now.

Or is this one and the same?

Much more interested in this than in Gothic 4. Yeah, Gothic 3 was a bit poor, but G1 and 2 were two of the finest RPGs I've played, and haven't been matched even now in some respects by the competition.

Nope, G4 is made by a different team - one that had nothing to with the gothic series whatsoever until now.

Oh, and Gothic 3 was made by Piranha Bytes. They split with Jowood after Gothic 3.

    No more boars please.

:) I think G3 was a game that got better the deeper you got into it, and a lot of people never got past the ludicrous boar kills. Shame. I never actually finished it, but guestimate I got within a couple of hours of the end. I tried to go back recently, but it's not a game that's aged well. I wanted to replay as a mage (since the combat is pretty lame) but I just couldn't bring myself to reinvest the time.
