GDC promises Fable 2 reveal

Molyneux to speak (unusual!)

Lionhead's Peter Molyneux will be speaking at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco in March - and he's promising to let us all in on one of Fable 2's big secrets.

You may remember last year that Molyneux was almost painfully eager to tell us about things happening in Fable 2, but somehow managed to stay his tongue. He later exhibited similar squirming in other interviews.

Well, it sounds like he's finally going to let it all out. Apart from delivering a talk about how Fable 2's development has proceeded ("When attempting to create a sequel the temptation is to add more of everything but is this enough?"), Molyneux "has promised to reveal a totally unexpected feature in Fable 2".

We'll be sure to pop our heads in and heckle him. And then report what he says.

Totally unexpected new feature in Fable 2...

...you have to press the LB button to breathe in, and the RB button to breathe out.

And time flows as you play so much, that you actually evolve as you play through...

    I'll get me coat...
  • Jheronimus #2 5 years ago

I love the breathe-function! That would really intensify gameplay *cough*

You'd need at least 2 buttons to correctly simulate toiletage.

Oh, Peter is at it again? Let's hear what the crazy old coot has to say this time. It's harmless anyway, not like anybody takes him seriously anymore.

disc = most probably correct: Multiplayer RPG.
  • peteb #12 5 years ago

"I love the breathe-function! That would really intensify gameplay *cough* "

cough is B button, only to be used when youve miss-timed the presses of LB and RB for breathing in/out.
  • Crashmasters #13 5 years ago

It's so obvious: it's going to be a PS3 exclusive game...as it will only fit on a blu-ray disc.

Unexpected feature perhaps, but a good feature? Probably not.

"It could be a masturbation minigame involving furious stick waggling and rythmic trigger pumpage"

Perhaps also a "Going Blind" risk, with the 3 CPUs and GPU of the xbox 360 being the only console that can properly simulate blindness in hi def.....

Peter Molyneux as the office paper clip.

"Peter Molyneux as the office paper clip."

    Genius!

But you know what would be even better? The Consolevania Peter Molyneux as the paperclip, rather than the real one!

I can see this crazy piece of software being able to determine your expression through the xbox cam and react acordingly when dealing the npc's also it will probably contain some other made up technology, perhaps this time round they could accurately model every molecule.

He's already ruined the story according to 360 Magazine.
SPOILERS: Apparently your parents die and your sister goes missing....again. You have to fight this guy called Lucien who's building a tower that does something.

I loved the first one and I'm sure Fable 2 will be grand and beautiful and awsome...

New feature... Zombies that drive cars in a slow lumbering fassion while you purch on the back shooting crowds of mutated geese? Thats to replace the teleport system?

Fable dev team grit their teeth and wait for their evenings to disappear in a cloud of spoken words.

Actually, multiplayer (as already suggested) doesn't seem too unreasonable a possibility.

I don't think it will be that though. Multiplayer is a proper, tangible feature and that isn't the PM way. My best guess it will turn out to be that your character can have kids *, or some other perfectly wooly and eventually pointless feature.

Don't get me wrong, I really liked Fable, but the whole "you can be good or bad" mechanic, sold as some brave new world, was in the end a poor cousin of similar mechanics that have been better implemented in previous titles.

Seriously, how much difference did it actually make to the game experience? Almost completely none, I would suggest.

Come on PM, prove me wrong, give us a feature that might this time actually qualify as "original and worthwhile".

    *Either that or gunpowder.
  • NthSimulachum #22 5 years ago

I loved the sandbox nature of the original, with the dynamics you could have with the townsfolk...

    Multiplayer...or Speech? or MMPORPG?
  • Xerx3s #23 5 years ago

In this version, you can run around in your underwear. \0/

seriously though, really enjoyed the first one and eagerly looking out for this.

OK....quick question...does Peter Molyneux actually come up with the ideas for his games? Or does he just take the credit for them when they're out?

    Same goes for Sid Meier?

    >Same goes for Sid Meier?

Side Meier is in another league! Sid not just designed his games, he coded them and did the artwork for them.

You made it sound like I'd accused Sid of sleeping with Peter...

I thought Fable 1 was great on paper, but a bit shabby in reality. It suffered from the constant loading of small areas, and the combat was poor. Hopefully these two are areas which will be addressed in the sequel.

I also think that multiplayer is a reasonable suggestion, since there was meant to be one in the first game, which was dropped late on due to time constraints.
