Get in there quick.

Eurogamers and Sports Interactive will be cutting the ribbon and announcing the beginning of the Football Manager Live beta key giveaway at 3pm. That's a link to the page you need to go. Obviously.

In case it wasn't obvious, today's bonanza gives you a chance to get in there and try out the new massively-multiplayer online vision before everyone else, and presumably help the team find and iron out some bugs.

All you have to do to get involved is become a registered member of the wonderful Eurogamers community, which really isn't as painful as it sounds - no money or promotional guff is involved. Once you've done that you can race over to the sign-up page and hope you're one of the first 25 in line.

Football Manager Live is an online spin-off of the consistently great and life-consuming management simulation from Sports Interactive. This time around you'll be able to set up your own leagues to compete against real people, and even have the game auto-play for you if you can't make a fixture. You can find out much more about it in our extensive hands-on.

The full game is due out in the UK next March. This first stage of the beta will be made up of 1000 people in total, and places are being described as "rarer than rocking horse poo" by SI boss Miles Jacobson. Yes, we're using that quote again.

So go. Go, go, go. Those keys won't last long.

Sign-ups will also take place on the Sports Interactive website, so you can always try your hand there.

It's kind of like buying a copy of Crackdown with the Halo 3 beta sticker on it, for you to fire it in and find out that the sticker was put on that box by accident.

I'm not blaming Eurogamer for this, as these things always go tits up, especially when it's such a small number of keys for such a large amount of people chomping at the bit.

pocababs: No, we're not saying that. We're saying that clearly the system was very busy at the point the giveaway went live, and despite our testing, it must have got a bit confused at the point that everyone hit the button at exactly the same time, and a few users (i.e. probably everyone who clicked it in a 1-2 second period) got the confirmation message but no key (all 25 keys were gone 4 seconds after it went live).

I'll get a full explanation from our tech guys shortly.

It uses a php script, and i'm guessing it wasn't designed for that many people to claim at once! They probably run out of keys but the validation on the script thought there were keys available, thus people got the empty key message as the key variable was empty for this competition. Sorry guys

@rauper: I assumed it's got something to do with the system being overloaded in a short space of time. As many have posted that they've received messages ~40 are going to miss out after being told they've won. Granted that you've told us that we haven't and that it'd appear in our giveaway section on our profile. I am not very happy at the organisation that went into this competition.

a) the time at which it started was incorrect. You stated 3pm GMT, when infact Britain is currently in GMT + 1, therefore it should not even have started yet!

b) the fact that I was "given" a message saying I was successfull @ 15:00 (followed shortly again at 15:04 and 15:06) and being told by you that I was not is once again a disgrace.

s33r: I would doubt it to be honest as the allocation of keys is very limited (1000 beta testers in total) so I doubt there are the spare spaces to allow that - and also anybody could claim that they received a "You received a key" message and we'd have no way of verifying it.

I can understand some people being slightly miffed, thinking they had a key, and dont. But if you get an email saying "heres your key", and there is no key, you might just stop for a second and assume something went wrong.

Well i'm still fuming. It's obvious people are gonna be angry when quite clearly the first 25 to visit the link did not neccessarily get a key.

I was under the impression that my key was won and reserved as it said there were 25 left when i accessed the page. Surely a script could be made that only shows the 'claim freebie' screen to the first 25 to access it then all this rubbish would be avoided as there is no way i wasnt one of the first 25 to load that page and i dont gots no key!

Entered the NOTW competition (after buying the paper to discover all you had to do was visit their website!!) - let's hope for more success from that
