First Modern Warfare 2 DLC this month

Initial 360 pack due at end of month.

Infinity Ward has announced that the first map pack for Modern Warfare 2 will be released for Xbox 360 on 30th March.

Writing on Twitter, IW's Robert Bowling added that PC and PS3 would receive the DLC at a later date.

Microsoft has previously told Eurogamer that the first two map packs would be exclusive to Xbox Live for 30 days.

There's no word on the contents of this month's offering, but Activision has whacked up a comedy website to go with the announcement.

Yesterday Bowling said that MW2 had been played online by 25 million people.

  • MinerWilly #7 2 years ago

I havent stuck the MW2 disc in since the BFBC-2 Beta was released exactly one week after MW2 launch day !!
  • bodypopper #8 2 years ago

I haven't played game x since game y came out. Just thought I'd share in the hope that the devs of game x would read it and weep.

You'd surely expect something higher than fifth wouldn't you? Sure, it might not have had all week to move further up, but even with the time it had...fifth? Let's check back next week though and see if no one is caring about MW2 and if it's all about BF:BC2. I dare say MW2 will still be on top.

    No one cares? Good one.

You'll inevitably strain yourself to call me a MW2 fanboy...but i'm a big fan of neither to be quite honest.

God, this fucking company continue to piss me off.

Why do I have to wait until after Xbox users get their DLC? Why favour one platform?! Is it too much fucking hassle for you to release it across 3 platforms simultaneously? Oh wait a second, this is the company that decided to get rid of dedicated servers and introduce IWnet, so no surprises there really.

    Wankers.
  • schnide #11 2 years ago

New map: Storming the Activision offices. Make it happen IW!
  • Iain815 #12 2 years ago

    @Ryboy

or maybe it's because Microsoft paid for first dibs?
  • Ryboy #13 2 years ago

    @Iain815

Yeah, didn't think of that. Still pathetic.
  • cheesymangav #14 2 years ago

These timed exclusive DLC packs are starting to get on my wick. Platform exclusive games are one thing, its good to have some differentation between platforms, but for multi-platform titles this is just a shitty way of doing business. And yes. I do know why it's happening, Microsoft pay for it, Activision are money grabbing whores yada yada yada...... but still, why should I have to wait a month longer than an 360 owner? Do they not want my money? I would love to say that I'm going to boycott the maps when they come out as a sign of protest, but I won't. I'll buy it anyway. But it still sucks.

"Let's check back next week though and see if no one is caring about MW2 and if it's all about BF:BC2. I dare say MW2 will still be on top."

To be fair, BC2 wasn't out in Europe until the end of last week and was plagued with server troubles so I expect it to be higher next week. High as MW2? No. The game is huge and if you like it then great.

Do I give a shit? Hell no. I consider BC2 to have the superior multiplayer and couldn't give a toss if it was outside the top 50. Just means IW have lost a map pack sale here.
  • geeza2020 #16 2 years ago

well i have bf bc2 and mw2 so its a win win for me!! yay!
  • mashk #17 2 years ago

Worries me that they're offering extra weapons as part of the DLC. I'm betting the sneaky bastards have probably made the new guns far superior to the ones already in the game, meaning anybody who doesn't 'pay', is at a significant disadvantage. It'd be just like Activision to do something like that.
  • chrisola #18 2 years ago

don't be silly #18. Everyone knows the akimbo 1887 shotties are the only weapon of choice.

(unless that's changed since i hit prestige and abandoned the game mid Jan after being annoyed by the contsant 1887 run and gun spam!)
  • youhavenomail #19 2 years ago

I want a new larger knife that can't be used with the Commando perk so I can go all Crocodile Dundee on those rippers' asses.
  • mukki #20 2 years ago

love how they are not stating when th PC & PS3 DLCs are coming out...

    a day, week, month later??

lets hope the time gap is not as bad as with GTA DLCs....
  • Ryboy #21 2 years ago

Hang on, do we have to fucking pay for it?!

    I assumed it was free...

  • viper_h #23 2 years ago

Yeah what's with this XBox exclusivity bullshit?

I paid the same fucking price as a 360 owner to get the game on my PC, why do I have to wait a month so all the 360 tryhards with their easy-mode autoaim game can play the new maps before I can?

    Fucking IW gaylords.

Also, paying for it? These guys obviously never heard of TF2

^ If you were expecting generous free DLC and fairness between platforms you bought the wrong game.

In fact, as you're playing on PC, I'd say you bought the wrong game anyway. IW already played us for chumps when the game was released, don't expect any different when it comes to DLC.

to be frank.....who gives a shit. Loving BF:BC 2 way more than i did this. At least when playing BC you are not sat there thinking..Cool kicking arse and then BLAM some cock smoking camping pice of crap gets a Nuke and all ya hard work goes down the shitter. Face it between camping knobs and the glitchers and hackers MW2 is tainted.
  • viper_h #26 2 years ago

^ too true. Bullshit game. No skill required, just camp and spray.

Still at least it's not as slow and dull as BF:BC2. LOL that game was crap.
  • ignatiusjreilly #27 2 years ago

    @viper_h

Did you like Battlefield 2? I'm really trying to get a comparison between BF:BC2 and BF2, but it seems to be very hard to find someone who can say.
  • 00.00.01 #28 2 years ago

    1. By having an 'add' describing the current MW2 owners with expressions as 'state of indifference', 'old maps...several months' and 'no longer derives pleasure from' they're basically confirming that they've waited way too long with releasing the DLC. Especially since it's already included on our current discs.
DLC should be released before players experience these effects (DLC is mostly created to prevend dulness, as well as to create a $h!t load of extra revenue). It will be another 3 weeks before it gets to the Xbox and PS3/PC owners will have to wait no less than 7 weeks from today. Releasing DLC almost 6 months after the game-release is a SHAME.
    .
    2. How does M$ benefit from this exclusivity? I'm looking forward to their sales figures, but I don't see many extra Xbox-units being sold because of some DLC. And cutomers are certainly not switching from PS3/PC to Xbox just for some DLC.
    .
No no no Acti 3& IW. EPIC FAIL, with BF:BC2 and MAG widely available.

Avatar is the biggest selling film of all time however it's still an over-rated pile of horse manure. Stats dont mean much.

It's good that they continue to support MW2 with DLC but like many (not all or even most) BF:BC2 is the game for me.

"Avatar is the biggest selling film of all time however it's still an over-rated pile of horse manure. Stats dont mean much. "

    WHOOOOOOOSH!

Stats DO mean something. I think you're confusing stats with sales. The Major's chart, is for how many are playing it online. The stats don't lie. So, to say "no one gives a shit anymore" couldn't really be further from the truth, could it?
  • brazzauk #31 2 years ago

No longer care about Call of Duty. This installment was the final straw for me. The cheek of releasing map packs for a game that was fundamnetally just a big map pack is a joke.

Other games like MAG, Killzone and BFBC2 show how games should be made with larger maps and more focus on the maps and the balance of the game.

COD has devolved into a run and gun bullshit fest. Even in the objective based modes they mean nothing.

The CoD frnachise reminds me of Pro Evo, complanceny and an unwillingless to change allowed FIFA to catch it and totally surpass it. COD has gone that way with the last two releases.
  • viper_h #32 2 years ago

    @ignatiusjreilly

I've never liked Battlefield games, so I can't really help you out there. I briefly played BF2 and didn't enjoy it, just like I've briefly played BF:BC2 and didn't enjoy it. They're not my type of game.
  • Casey_Ryback #33 2 years ago

To all the people saying BF:BC2 is a better game - I don't think you can really compare the two so simply. MW2 makes no secret of the fact that it is a faster paced "run and gun" shooter. The size of the maps dictatesthat tempo.

That is not to say that BF isn't a very good online game for its own reasons. Less campers for a start and destructible scenery which can turn the combat area very intersting shall we say.

I find it a little entertaining that so many BF fans are responding to the DLC news item for MW2 with such venom considering that maps are probably Battlefields biggest flaw. There simply isn't enough of them. At least for now.
  • t8yman #34 2 years ago

    @#30

ms have benefitted from me, I bought a replacement elite, and traded my ps3 version of MW2 for a 360 version. Ive never liked the pad on the ps3, and PSN just isnt as good as xbl (all personal opinion - flamers!)
I had been toying with the idea for ages, but the 30 day holdback on ps3 convinced me it was time for a change, I was getting bored of the maps and wanted to breathe a bit of life back into mw2 before I went off it. Then, a week later I got BC2 and it all changed. I am really enjoying BC2. Ill deffo buy the dlc for both, but the way I feel at this very moment I dont want to take the BC2 disc out.

I find it funny that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (abbreviated as Call of Duty: MW3 or simply MW3) is currently in development by Infinity Ward with assisted development from Sledgehammer Games and Raven Software co-developing multiplayer development, e.g. weapons, maps, perks, etc. That's a lot of developers making MW3!
