First Fallout 3 DLC dated

Later this month. Patch today.

Bethesda has said Operation: Anchorage will be available for Fallout 3 from 27th January.

This, the first of three chunky DLC packs, will cost 800 Microsoft Points (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.60) from Xbox Live Marketplace and Games for Windows Live.

There's no extra content for PS3 owners, sadly, due to an exclusivity agreement with Microsoft.

The date arrives as Bethesda releases a long-awaited patch addressing numerous bugs in all three versions of the post apocalyptic role-playing game.

You can find a full list of updates over on the official Fallout 3 site, plus a download link for those playing on PC.

Operation: Anchorage adds a military simulation mission that whisks players back to a very different pre-nuclear wasteland world where Chinese invaders need repelling. Adventurers will fit into a tightly run special ops team and have to survive within the rules of the training program. We'd rather fit into tight Spandex, but beggars can't be choosers.

There's around five hours of content on offer, plus a new perk and plenty of unique items and weapons to collect.

Operation: Anchorage will be followed by The Pitt in February and Broken Steel in March. The former adds an industrial raider town to investigate, while the latter recruits players into the Brotherhood of Steel and bumps the level cap up to 30. Broken Steel can be played after finishing the main Fallout 3 campaign.

    So I need to bite the bullet and buy it on the 360 now. Shame, I like the noiselevel on my PS3 better.
  • the_dudefather #2 3 years ago

    gah, need to finish the regular game first
  • kinky_mong #3 3 years ago

    Perfectly timed for me. I expect I will have done most of the game by the time it's released.
  • RedSparrows #4 3 years ago

    Gonna save all the DLC for a replay in Spring. Means I forget loadsa stuff about the stories/places, and go back a bit fresher. And have more content! woo!
  • Pinewood_Groves #5 3 years ago

    @Gallilee

    You can install it now, didn't you hear? It's optional too.
  • bonker #6 3 years ago

    "five hours of content on offer"

    For £7?? This can't be right, can it??
  • b0bb1ns #7 3 years ago

    Don't get your hopes up if you're after another ps3 patch. There isn't a new one today; it's just a wider release of the existing one. Although they do seem to be claiming that it mystically fixes a load of stuff that wasn't mentioned when they first released the PS3 patch

    How many forms of tech-based entertainment can you get for less than £1.50 an hour?

    But hey, if you don't like the price wait for a sale... or something.
  • Eraysor #9 3 years ago

    The patch is almost as awesome as the DLC.
  • the_dudefather #10 3 years ago

    @sneetch

    welll...you can get fallout 3 which has dozens of hours of gameplay from anywhere between 20-40 quid ;)
  • Buenos_Estente #11 3 years ago

    Will you have to pay for pc downloads? surely not (i hope!)?
  • m0thr4 #12 3 years ago

    That takes it from 'washing machine' down to 'hairdryer'. I've installed the Talismoon Whisper Fan, which makes it a little bit quieter, but it's still 4 times louder than the PS3.
  • Vortex808 #13 3 years ago

    Can't wait. Finished the story not too long ago after 90 hours or so, to clear the way for the DLC, so can't wait to get the new fix. Still got plenty of places to still visit in it yet, but it'll be nice to have some new quests to do!
  • shotgun44 #14 3 years ago

    so presumably to get all 3 packs its gonna cost me near enough 20 quid :/
  • Wayne #15 3 years ago

    Well, the patch didn't resolve the game breaking bug that I've been constantly experiencing. So, back on the shelf Fallout 3. What was that? Knothole what?
  • Rizzle #16 3 years ago

    Dear Eurogamer,
    Will I get to see a review of this content thingy at some point? I would very much like to and would do all of my chores early if that would help. Thank you, Mr Eurogamer,

    Ross

    Well the patch did absolutely nothing to fix the distorted radio music for me when listening to it from the Pip-boy, which is disappointing as the game is otherwise flawless for me. The really bizarre thing is that not only do the other sound effects, music and radio dialogue play fine but the music you hear from the radios playing that you find scattered around in the game world is also fine. So it clearly isn't a sound driver bug but an issue with the game itself. Weird.

    Games for Windows Live is for the PC. And since Bethesda already introduced paying for small plugins with Oblivion, it was 100% sure they'd do the same thing with Fallout. But I predict nobody buying it, because who in his right mind uses Games for Windows Live?
  • chrispontius #19 3 years ago

    everyone that has a ps3 just bend over and take it ,including myself , really beginning to hate sony and ive always been loyal to ps3 but this crap makes me think about changing now
  • Daikon #20 3 years ago

    Judging from the comments on Bethesda's forums still doesn't fix some of the freezes during the main quest, making the game unfinishable.

    I'm just glad nothing major happened to me on my playthrough, other than having four Megaton residents mysteriously fall to their deaths.
  • speedofthepuma #21 3 years ago

    Does anybody else think the premise for the first DLC sounds a bit crap? Wait for the review I guess.
  • MrsPacMan #22 3 years ago

    @Darren

    Must be a defective Pip-boy. But at least it goes with your defective mind.
  • Aggesan #23 3 years ago

    F**k MS and their f**kin bribes!! I'm so damn sick of not getting proper DLC because their filthy business model!
  • Widge #24 3 years ago

    Yes, because he just lies for the fun of it I'm sure
  • Lutz #25 3 years ago

    Um, I thought that the reason the PS3 didn't get any DLC had nothing to do with any exclusivity agreement with MS, but was rather due to technical reasons regarding the PS3's memory?
  • robg #26 3 years ago

    This review makes me want to play Operation.
  • kangarootoo #27 3 years ago

    Oh toss.

    This and the upcoming Fable 2 DLC have just resulted in my first purchase of XBL points in nearly a year.

    Left 4 Dead is also pushing me toward finally renewing my lapsed gold membership.

    How will I feed my army of imaginary children I ask you?*

    *that bit about imaginary children sounded a bit wrong, in hindsight.
  • EzyRyder #28 3 years ago

    I just bought 4200 points in preparation for this and other XBLA games I want to buy!!! :)
  • Aggesan #29 3 years ago

    @Lutz

    Where did you hear that about the PS3's memory being the problem? From what I've heard it's all about MS bribing Bethesda, just like they did with Rockstar regarding GTA4.
  • Lutz #30 3 years ago

    @Aggesen: I honestly can't recall. Seems that neither MS or Bethesda will comment on exclusivity though.
  • Petulant_Radish #31 3 years ago

    @ Aggesen

    It’s not called bribing, it’s called buying. Much like buying an original IP, Microsoft have bought the rights to additional content. That content may not have happened at all had Microsoft not put the money forward for it in the first place. Seems like a perfectly good business model to me, gives people more reason to buy a multiplatform game on your platform over a rivals.

    I’m sure there will be more of that from both camps in the future, the publishers will like it as they’ll gain monies from both exclusivity deals and sales revenue.
  • YobRenoops #32 3 years ago

    Its a bit of a bummer this isn't coming out on PS3. I've got my fingers crossed for a GOTY-esque Edition nearer Xmas with all this put in. Then I'll swap out my copy for a bigger one!
  • Moribundman #33 3 years ago

    @Radish: Spot on mate.

    If Sony really gave a shit about their gamers maybe they'd fork out money for developers to produce exclusive DLC...

    Oh no, sorry, they're operating at a loss this year so they're tightening their belts. Hey ho, I guess they can still wait for a kind developer to throw them a freebie bone like they did with Bioshock...
  • AbyssUK #34 3 years ago

    I want to buy it without using Games for Windows Live please.
  • m0thr4 #35 3 years ago

    I want to buy it without using Games for Windows Live please.

    Then you're shit outta luck, my friend.
