Fatal Inertia PS3 rated by ESRB News

PlayStation 3 News by Tom Bramwell

13 March, 2008

KOEI is keeping quiet about the future of Fatal Inertia on PS3 despite the game receiving a rating from the American Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). "E10+" in case you care.

The game is listed as "Fatal Inertia EX", suggesting that reports late last year that the PS3 version would be an improvement over the lacklustre 360 release did point to additional work of some form.

At the time, KOEI said the game was "in development for 2008", but the publisher would not be drawn on any further details when we rang up this morning.

As you will remember from our Fatal Inertia Xbox 360 review (probably, maybe), the game is an Unreal Engine 3-based racer built around flying cars ala WipEout, in which you dart around canyons and over oceans, among other open tracks, blasting each other with weapons.

If the PS3 version can take care of some of the issues that got in Fatal Inertia's way, then it might be worth investigating. We'll let you know when we find out more.

Jesus, this game was a steaming pile of dog doings on the Xbox 360 so I can't understand why it's still coming out for the PS3. PS3 owners will soon have Wipeout HD, likely to be vastly superior in every way, so why would anyone want to buy this game unless it's been drastically overhauled and is now good (which I doubt)? :?

2 problems:

1. It uses UE3 which has been shit in every game I've played except Gears Of War (360 version). It's over rated and ugly as hell (the engine) and has too many quirks (though less so on consoles as they mask the problems)

2. Wipeout HD @ cheap price means no-one will care about this.

Exactly. Fatal Inertia didn't have any competition on the 360 so it could be viewed as a welcome if not particularly great distraction but with the PS3 getting Wipeout HD, there's no way this game in going to sell unless it's £20 RRP or less and f**king amazing.

P.S. Have Koei ever made a good game; I mean a really, really good one? ;)

First, Koei rule! There are people like me that buy anything they bring out, and love them so. Koei Canada is the culprit of this badness.

Except this. When I had a 360, it was one of the worst games I've ever had the misfortune to play, and if the world was fair all of Koei Canada (of which this is their only game so far) would be fired. Harsh, but fair.

As I've said before, at least with the Warriors series you know what you're getting - the same game with a new number on the end :)
