F1 2009 released on iPhone

What about F5? That'd be refreshing.

Codemasters has released an iPhone version of F1 2009 on the App Store.

You can grab it now for £3.99, and reader reviews so far appear to be positive.

There are 17 official circuits and "stunning graphics", although gameplay is limited to time trial modes - either posting a one-off best time or racing the Endurance mode and whittling your lap average down to its minimum.

F1 2009, Codemasters' first stab at the official licence, was released on Wii to an appreciative reception in November. Check out our F1 2009 review to find out why.

And it's terrible. It's all time trial based. There's no 'racing'.

@MrED209 - Why did you click on a story about a football game? Am I missing something?!

I've bought this, it's choppy and slow and it crashes often, even after a reboot. The fact that it only has time trials seems ample proof this has been rushed to the shelves without any testing. Obviously they expect buyers to buy now and wait for them to finish making the game and then patch it. Avoid.

the most bizarrely poor execution of a troll attempt there by Owen-B. Keep taking the pills.

photoboy you got the iPhone 3GS?

Cos if its stutters there then what for the standard iPhone? Otherwise there are some games that seemly made for the newest iteration and let other owners put up with the fps drops or stutters?

I would expect a better effort from Codemasters if they want to make a success of the iPhone platform.

No, just an iPhone 3G. I think most companies buy their programmers the latest iPod Touch to develop with and only at the end do they check if it barely runs on the older iPhone models. Apple really shouldn't be allowing stuff onto the App Store without checking 3G performance.

Rob, that pun was the pits.

I'm sure the review of the Wii version will give us the information we need to decide if we should buy it on the iPhone! lolz

Eurogamer, I love you, but please step-up on the iPhone coverage. Sure there's a load of crap that doesn't deserve mentioning, but there is some genuine innovation in some games and they need to be given exposure.

Don't care how good the game looks or does onscreen - the fact is touch screen is so shit for 99% of games; there no sense of control as with d-pads/thumbsticks.

Bought this thinking since Codemasters name is on it it would be of a certain quality. Well it isn't.

You literally need to turn the iPhone through 90 degrees to put full steering lock on.... which you may imagine does not make this easy to control. I'd have thought they'd basically mimic Firemint's Real Racing control scheme which works pretty well and offers pretty precise responsive control. This F1 game really is simply not playable in comparison. The framerate is pretty appaling considering the level of the graphics, yet again in comparison to Real Racing. I hope they do a raft of updates to this to get it to some decent quality. Urgh, I hate Codies more and more these days, first destroying the rallying element of a rally game in favour of crass Americanisation (meanwhile American coders do a classy and restrained, European styled Forza...), now this appalling iPhone game. What people should know is that it's not appalling because it's an iPhone game by the way.

this is the app store conundrum. you have to price your shit cheap so people will buy thereby slashing your development budget. Didn't that analyst pachter warn the app store was going to send gaming to the dogs? or something to that effect
