Expansions announced for EverQuests News

MMO PC News by Eurogamer staff

27 June, 2009

Sony Online Entertainment has announced expansions for its EverQuest MMOs at its annual Fan Faire convention in Las Vegas.

The sixth expansion for EverQuest II will have the title Sentinel's Fate. It will increase the level cap to 90, and is planned for release in February 2010.

Sentinel's Fate will allow you to play older, low-level content with a high-level character and still gain experience. SOE is also integrating various achievements into the game, such as killing 10,000 orcs or reaching level 80 with multiple characters.

Additionally, SOE announced the 16th expansion for the original EverQuest. Called Underfoot, it will be released in November 2009, and allow you to explore a new underground zone.

I realy want to start playing this game...but I feel like im starting 100 years back in time. So many expansions is a BIG leap to get up to date with other players..?

Please for the love of God...bring EQ to the PS3.

After playing WoW for 4 years I tried eq2, adly time hasnt been so kind and its starting to feel very dated. I managed to get to lvl 30 but its not easy to find people to do the low level quests. I would argue that WoW is far more friendly towards solo questing but WoW is also too easy and sometimes eq2 feels much to hard. Im currently enjoying LOTRO its has better crafting than WoW a more mature community feel but in truth im just biding my time till Aion starts fully :D

I think the fact that WoW is shallow and extremely basic is one of the main reasons why it's so popular though. Usually I'd criticise such concept in a game, but when it comes to MMORPGs I actually prefer WoW compared to its rivals purely because you spend less time pissing about and more time playing the game.

Of course, it's not perfect; travel times, grinding and leveling from 1-80 is a equal to watching paint dry 75% of the time, but until developers start pushing forward with MMORPG design WoW will have to do.

Anyway, it seems this achievement thing is well and truly catching on, which is good in a way; MMORPGs have the content to warrant inventive and prestigious achievements. However, achievements do seem to be replacing actual content these days, which is a worrying trend -- I think the majority of us would prefer in-game usable rewards as opposed to a - pretty much - useless tag/point.

Do people still play Everquest 1?

Damn, that's some dedication there.

I didn't realize the original was still going. Jeez, at least you can't accuse that fanbase of being graphic whores. I wouldn't be surprised if it has more subs than it's sequel.

I think to start EQ1 now would be an absolute mammoth task unless they've changed the starting areas considerably. Just thinking about it makes me shudder! I've never met a community like the original Everquest, it was like the internet before all the d00des discovered it existed. Good times.

People just love to bitch about WoW is why WoW is shallow.

It's the best, dumbasses. 11 million subscribers. Suck it.
