EA's 2010 FIFA World Cup confirmed

First screenshot tomorrow.

EA's lifted the lid on the official 2010 FIFA World Cup videogame and promises to release the first screenshot tomorrow.

"The first screenshot of 2010 FIFA World Cup will be posted live at www.facebook.com/EASPORTSFIFA," Tweeted EA Sports.

The existence of the game is as unsurprising as a yearly update to the core FIFA series, but nevertheless, this is the first EA has publicly spoken of it.

Like 2006 FIFA World Cup, this will focus on the globe's famous sporting event and ditch the drama of domestic leagues. What improvements there will be to the core FIFA 10 game, however, remains to be seen.

We expect team ratings to coincide with FIFA World Ranking up until this summer, when the tournament begins. Spain's currently top, followed by Brazil, Netherlands (surprisingly), Italy, Portugal and Germany.

France, Argentina, England and Croatia round out the top 10. USA's a much improved 14th.

  • Shikasama #4 2 years ago

Isn't there a tournament mode on FIFA 2010?

    Awesome, saved myself 40 quid.

People who buy this need to be shot.
  • ERG1008 #5 2 years ago

Let's hope they've ironed out the silly things with the AI in Single player that spoiled Fifa 10 for me. Fifa 09 I still feel is better when it's against the CPU.
  • Gartt #6 2 years ago

Probably not one to buy but worth a rent. I remember Euro 2008 being a very good game, as long as there a few gameplay tweaks here and there and a GK fix itll be well worth playing.

I wonder if they'll ever bother their arse making a decent PC version?

    Nah, thought not.
  • kingcrude #10 2 years ago

surely whatever is planned could be a dlc package to FIFA 10's near perfect system?
  • Lee_Morris #11 2 years ago

I bet the new fifa team are THRILLED with have to put 2 games out in a year! Hopefully it's just all cosmetic changes so they can put all their attention on FIFA 2011.
  • Dark_Stranger #12 2 years ago

going on previous world cup games, its bound to be up there with the best!

I think people are being a little harsh towards this. Personally prior to Fifa 10 EA's Euro 2008 was as near immaculate a football game as you could get. In many ways it even eclipsed Fifa 09 for pacing and AI.

I always look forward to these incrementals because not only do you see a glipse of how the engine will change for the next major installment they tend to have specialist modes built just for the game. The jewell in the previous crown was always the scenario mode where specific goals had to be met within a set time limit in classic and current matches.

Its been a while since EA dropped a duplicate of the previous years FIFA with only world cup branding people need to look a little closer its not 1998 anymore.

i dnt think ill be buying this til it hits the budget bins, but tbh, euro 2008 was a good football game and tht lead to the first standout fifa in a decade. i can see this game being a preview of what to expect gameplay wise in fifa 11 coz cmon guys, the days of EA being cash cows are well in the past now
  • Shikasama #15 2 years ago

Huntcjna - So you'll be paying £40 for a glimpse at next years engine will you?
  • Huntcjna #16 2 years ago

I will probably be paying £30 for a game I enjoy the specialist modes on yes. Its not really the engine that interests me as much as the scenario modes. The engine changes are just an added benefit really.

    World cup, FIFA, England.

    Nuff said.
  • Eraysor #18 2 years ago

    Trust me, it was sarcasm.

Never mind this, FIX THE SODDING MANAGER MODE BUGS IN FIFA 10!

Ahem. Sorry... bit of a pet peeve.
  • romanista #20 2 years ago

netherlands, surprisingly? they have bene in the top 10 since the last ten years?

anyway, the africa cup made me notice that there are almost no african teams in fifa10, so my worldcup-but played in fifa 10 idea feels a bit sparse..

I think this would have done better as a premium priced download for FIFA10.

Given how much of the cost of a retail game actually gets absorbed by taking the game from the EA dev servers to a customer's hands, they'd probably be looking at a similar profit per unit if they released it at 1200MS points. I think they'd sell a lot more too, many people who bought FIFA10 aren't going to go and buy another footy game six months later (I will though :D ), whereas they'd probably bite if it was a download.

Bad example, since World Cup 98 was the only genuinely great World Cup game EA ever made. It was RTWC 98 but smoother. 02 and 06 were a bit poo. But I get your point.

I cant wait....a picture of a football and, dare i say it, MAYBE a shoe of sorts?

Won't be touching another Fifa/EA Sports product for a long time. They've taken liberties with Fifa 10. They're refusing to fix the bugs for the next update but still have the nerve to release the Ultimate Team mode and now this. They should have fixed Fifa 10's bugs ages ago.

For me, Euro 08 was the game where it all came together for EA and for the first time ever they were the undisputed kings of football.

I hope they use this World Cup game similarly and take the engine to the next level because Fifa 10 certainly didn't do that.
  • Vroom #28 2 years ago

I don't need it. I understand it will have very little concrete inprovements. I will buy it anyway.

I am part of the problem.
  • AgentCool #29 2 years ago

There really is no excuse for this to not be available as DLC. They could still release a boxed version but for all of us who shelled out for FIFA 10, surely a 800/1200 point download would be sufficient.

I like soccer games so I may check this out. It depends on how good the game ends up being.
