EA launches Tiger Woods Online
Free-to-play golf game goes live.
Timing its swing to perfection to match the disgraced champion's return to the sport, EA Sports has officially launched Tiger Woods PGA Tour Online.
The free-to-play, browser-based golf game is still technically in beta, but is now open to all. You can sign up and give it a go at the game's website.
The game boasts single, multiplayer and tournament modes and can be suspended and resumed at any time you like.
From now until Sunday, you can participate in the first of the game's live events - the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill.
This is EA's next bet in free-to-play PC gaming, after Battlefield Heroes and card strategy game BattleForge. How EA will make money out of Tiger Woods Online isn't quite clear at the moment; the pricing model doesn't seem to be implemented yet, although EA has mentioned both micro-transactions and a "tiered subscription" in the past.

Drove all the way to the Lake District years ago for a friend's birthday, instead of enjoying the beauty of the countryside, a group of us played Tiger Woods on the PS2 all weekend. I think cabin fever set in. We all now refer to any TW title as 'tappy'..

Having had a look at this i'm impressed by the graphics, especially as it's an in browser game. I envy kids these days, wish I had this back in school instead of the crappy flash games we had to play.

LOL, when I was at school we had two computers in the building and they only got used during a one hour per week IT lesson. The only electronic entertainment was spelling rude words upside down on a calculator (and California Games on Atari Lynx \o/ but that thing was far too big to hide in a Maths lesson).

The closest to golf then was the venerable Leaderboard and world away from the online TW game but EA still sticking by their man!

Indeed. And the fact it's called "Unity" just rubs salt in the wound.
