Death Tank being remade for Live Arcade News

Xbox 360 News by Robert Purchese

1 September, 2008

Snowblind Studios has whipped the wrappers off a revamped Xbox Live Arcade version of Death Tank.

Originally a bonus game for PowerSlave on SEGA Saturn, Death Tank dots the aforementioned war machines on 2D hills, grants them large arsenals and has them blow each other up. A bit like Worms. Or Afghanistan.

The overhaul - a collaborative effort between Snowblind Studios and Flat Games - will be overseen by original creator Ezra Dreisbach.

New features such as local four-player battles and online skirmishes for up to eight competitors will be added, as will upgradable tanks and various power-ups.

Graphics will be greatly improved, too, as you can see in our Death Tank gallery. But unfortunately there's no mention of date nor price just yet.

It's nothing like Worms at all.

One is turn-based, the other is real-time. That's a pretty big difference.

This game was awesome...
Probably the only reason left to own a saturn.
This is good news.

Before someone asks, Powerslave is the US name for Exhumed. Eurogamer should really be using the UK name.

this was a rather late bit of news, Eurogamer.

But god damn I can't wait for this. My mates and I STILL play the saturn version, its just such manic good fun, that this remake will be... inspirational. Well, maybe not, but bloody good fun.

My only real recollection of a proper multiplayer console game comes from playing deathtank on the saturn with the multitap adapter.

If they can make fast stable netcode that works over live then this will be better than worms hands down.

As long as the graphics don't get in the way of the core gameplay, it'll be fine! Oh and a SUPER-cheap price please - there surely isn't enough to warrant an 800MS price tag?

I hope they use the fantastically over the top rock music from the title screen of the original.

Actually EG should be using the name "Duke Nukem 3D" because that's where the Saturn Bonus version of Death Tank was...hidden on the DN3D disk.

See:

http://www.gamegenie.com/cheats/saturn/D...

(Actually that's "zwei" - the sequel so it could've been in Exhumed too I spose...)

Actually it featured in both Exhumed and Duke Nukem 3D. With the NTSC version of Exhumed, you got the game by collecting all the team dolls. With Duke Nukem 3D you got the sequel 'Death Tank Zwei' (a clear reference to Panzer Dragoon) by either destroying every toilet in the game, or having a Quake or Exhumed save.

4 player only local sucks. Is this a limitation of the 360 then? Can there possibly be more than 4 bluetooth devices connected at once?
