Dead Space 2 to have online multiplayer?

Job advert seems to suggest so.

A new job advert has kicked off speculation that the next Dead Space game could feature an online multiplayer mode.

The ad is for a senior online level designer at EA Redwood, to work on "the Dead Space franchise on Xbox 360 and PS3". The successful candidate will "work collaboratively with creative director and online producer to create extremely fun, satisfying and polished multiplayer levels".

He or she will also "drive online design by taking the initiative to bring all parties together to execute on the overall vision for the levels".

Apparently, "The previous instalment in the Dead Space franchise received numerous awards for gameplay, visuals, and sound design, and the same core team is in place to create an even better follow up," the ad reads.

"The game is in the later stages of pre-production, ready for production in the next few months, with many of the navigational and combat mechanics in place."

EA has yet to officially announce Dead Space 2 but it's not the first time we've heard a sequel is on the way - a similar job listing was posted back in September.

So Dead Space 2 isn't part of the job cuts? I still need to play the first one!

Yeah saw this on the forums, I was so gutted.

We can only hope it's a seperate mode we will all try once or twice and ignore like the rest and not the horrid awfulness of a full co-op ruining an excellent SP game.

    Yay more co-op games, excellent

So, EA, you make this game actually suck this time on purpose? Come on, in such a game, online is NOT suited at ALL. Don't force bullet points on game cases.

Also note lack of PC format in the article ... sincerely hope this isn't the case.

Actually Co-op sounds fine for ths game. Especially if you get to go to different areas of the ship to solve puzzles. Something like one player needs to go to the generator room to defend a power coupling while the other loads a suttle with fuel while the power is on. One player flies the shuttle while the other is on guns etc. etc.

If anyone played deadspace extraction, they know that the group of desperate survivors thing works quite well with deadspace. The enemy ability to convert corpses makes things hard because your constantly on your guard. The only issue I would have is if the single player companion AI wasn't as good as the AI in Uncharted 2!

I would cry doom and gloom as well.

Except I played UC2 and loved the MP

Just keep it out of the main game.

    @Vertical Stand

The original Dead Space was not a space FPS. I havent heard about the sequel being an FPS either.

I just hope that the addition of multiplayer doesn't ruin the single player experience. Dead Space was without a doubt one of the best single player experiences of 2008 and I must say that I believe that is almost entirely due to the fact that there was no pointless fragfest multiplayer mode to soak up all that developer time.

If we still get a good 12 hour single player survival horror experience and get some engaging and interesting multiplayer, taking a page from Naughty Dog's rulebook basically, then I can get behind the idea of multiplayer. If however we end up with a less satisfying, shorter and generally lesser quality experience than we got in the first game then the words epic fail will surely follow the release.

Good to hear this one wasn't canned.

Easy, make half the players infectious monsters and half the players defenseless humans running for the pods, Escape timer, high player cap, fun is had by all.

    Just no co-op, please.

Really enjoyed the first game, but don't think competitive multiplayer will suit this francise unless it's a rip off of Left for Dead. Co-op multiplayer though, I'll have abit of that.

i always thought dead space had one of the most well built control systems and brilliant HUD, and i like the way the character feels heavy set.

Always wondered how well this would fit with a multiplayer system. If it's co-op it might be fine but i would like to see how they work around the fact that the weapons in dead space were pretty much lethal in one shot (to humans.)

However I agree with people who say it detracts from the scary atmosphere, like re5 did.

Well Uncharted 2 showed that a previously single player only game can have an online mode that supplements but doesn't distract or diminish the main campaign so let's hope that this is also true of Dead Space 2 for those that care about such things.

I prefer to view the online modes as a bonus simply because they're not the reason I play games so I don't care either way how the online mode turns out, just so long as the single player is as good as the original which I completed a couple of months ago on the PC. I'll be buying BioShock 2 only for its single player too; the first game certainly didn't need any multiplayer to make it a better value game IMO and I doubt Dead Space 2 will either.

Some anti-alasing wouldn't go amiss for Dead Space 2 though... ;)

Blurgh.. uneeded - same as bioshock

I wonder if this means the campaign will go the way of Resi 5, with an AI buddy and more action???

Or whether MP is a kind of Versus thing?

    QUESTIONS!

Co-op would work well, but "proper" multiplayer is a baaaad idea.
