Condemned 2 for PS3, Xbox 360
Introducing multiplayer.
SEGA has confirmed recent reports that it is lining up a sequel to Xbox 360 and PC title Condemned.
Condemned 2: Bloodshot will be released in early 2008 on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the publisher said at an event in the US yesterday, with Monolith resuming its role as developer on the psychological first-person action thriller.
Players once again take on the role of Ethan Thomas - now a broken man trying to track down his missing partner - as they go on the hunt for serial killers following a string of gruesome murders.
In addition to the hand-to-hand combat and forensic crime scene investigation of the first game, players can expect an expanded combat system with potential for offensive and defensive combination moves.
Monolith is also planning online multiplayer deathmatch and possibly some other modes.
SEGA Europe's Gary Knight said that the first game's "subtle details, gripping story and eerie tension" would all be intact in the sequel.
"Condemned 2: Bloodshot takes these three key elements to heightened new levels, providing a superb mature gaming experience that will constantly surprise its players and keep them gripped from start to finish," he added.

a) Better blocking. If a maniac is swinging a lead pipe at my head, I'd like to be able to block for more than a fraction of second.
b) An ending that makes sense. Just a little bit. Go on. Please?

Firstly: GET IN!
Secondly: Agree. The on screen command prompts ruined the atmosphere. Some visual and audio clues that the protagonists 'senses' something would be better. The player would then be left to search the area with a variety of tools to find the clue.
I hope they have something as fraking cool as the near last level where you had to trace that wierd handwriting all around the house with you UV light. One of the best gaming moments ever IMHO.

I agree about the forensics it would be great for them to become more integral to the gameplay.
I dont think I really understood the ending either

It's a bit like the premise of Revolver, I believe. The old "the greatest trick he ever pulled was making you believe that he was you" thing. The idea that we have demons and angels on our sholders and they influence our decisions, whisper in our ears. In Condemned the demons had 'convinced' everyone to become evil murdering bastards who needed clubbing with a piece of 2" by 4". I was happy to oblige

And just what do they mean by NOW a broken man? Your poor guy was broken within the first 10 minutes of condemned 1!

The blocking was perfect. It was all about timing, and I certainly hope they don't make the blocking easier, it added to the tension, especially if you were on deaths door and trying to fend off two crazed addicts.
Really looking forward to the sequel.

I disagree with that mate. Part of what made Condemned so immersive was the feeling that you were the only sane person in the world. It helped create a feeling of hopelessness; every room I went into just filled me with trepidation because I was expecting to come face to face with a crazed maniac.
Who could forget the shopping mall level with the mannequins? The haunting Christmas music stuck in a loop, the body being thrown down the escalator with a sign saying "GO AWAY!".
Just made the game perfect for me. I don't want to start interacting with a load of NPC's just for the sake of it.

Sodding mannequins... Ah well. Might force myself to finish the original so I can move on, or "get closure" as the shrink says.

Perfect at providing a gaming challenge, maybe, but completely nonsensical within the semi-realistic procedural story. If a nutter is coming at you with a blunt object, you'd hold your weapon in front of your face, not briefly wave it in the air. There's no reason that you couldn't be able to hold your block without making the game stupidly easy. The longer you block, and the blows the enemy lands, the more your weapon deteriorates, or your energy starts to get chipped away at an increasing rate. That way you'd still be able to protect yourself from the initial blow in a way that made sense, but you'd be penalised in a realistic way for being a coward.
For me, Condemned had a superb first level - from the surveying of the initial crime scene through to searching the building for the killer - but it soon became a rather farcical mess of repetitive ideas ("Search the abandoned subway station. Search the abandoned department store. Now search the abandoned school."
It worked perfectly fine as a creepy realistic Seven-style detective thriller but the introduction of the Super Cyber Cenobite completely undermines that and makes it generic and videogamey. And did they ever explain what was up with that government folder that said you had special powers? The whole last act of the game is full of sloppy plotting and half-baked ideas.
Nah. It's got a great concept, but deeply flawed execution.

Condemned is one of the great 360 launch games that I haven't sniffed.

Hopefully it'll be fixed for the second game because I think Condemned has the potential to be an awesome series. Perhaps implementing a system like the Silent Hill games where you can choose both the level of combat and the level of puzzles?

Totaly agree - it got off to a great start and then went downhill with all the supernatural crap.

I'll be happy if they change nothing but update the graphics, balance the taser, maybe make the finishing moves less gimmicky and improve the CSI elements. Still one of the best X360 games IMHO.

I'm happy to hear there will be a sequel though. It's one of the very few games that's managed to make me actually physically jump, and has an atmosphere that any horror film would kill for. I really need to get back to it and get it finished at last.
