Call of Duty on PSN/XBLA this week

MW2 bonus trinket to be sold separately.

Activision has announced that Call of Duty Classic will be released on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade.

The game will cost $14.99 on PlayStation Network in the US, where it comes out on Thursday 3rd December. European plans aren't mentioned but these things usually align. Most of the time. Sometimes.

Xbox Live Arcade users will get to start playing tomorrow, Wednesday 2nd December, providing they are happy to fork over 1200 Microsoft Points (£10.20 / €14.40).

Call of Duty Classic is, clearly, the original Call of Duty redone to work on modern console controllers. It was bundled with the steelbook and "Prestige" editions of Modern Warfare 2 in November.

    Bit steep...

You can get CoD and its expansion on PC for about 4 quid.
  • LiveForever #2 2 years ago

For that price you can keep it MS and Activision.

The new maps for MW2 better not cost that much otherwise it will another vote to skip move.

800 msp would have moved me, considering there are barely any costs to recoup compared to say, battlefield, but i suppose you get the campaign, and more maps, so i'll probably buy.

How will it compare in terms of duration to MW2? I've yet to play the latest installment, but if this offers a similar amount of game (offline) then I might be tempted to go for this first.

Ten quid? Get tae fuck, Activision.

this has been on euro psn since mw2 released and yes its 8 player online
  • Mongoose #8 2 years ago

From what I've read you get the multiplayer but it's only 8 players. I think I'll still get it to revisit the old classic maps.

Shurely shome mishtake Eurogamer? This was released on PSN 10th November.....
  • Beige_Alert #10 2 years ago

It was pulled from PSN, tried to find it last week and then found a thread in the playstation forums that noted that it had been released too early to the store.
  • Bravestinsane #11 2 years ago

Damn lost sales, 800 then yes but 1200, nah don't think so acti

I treated myself to the MW2 PS3 Prestige edtion and downloaded this weeks ago.
Played the first 4-5 levels and it holds up really well, Online was painful but its there. Trophies too. :-)

    @MrMarc

It does seem to have all the same multiplayer modes I used to know and love, though I've barely touched them given I enjoy the multiplayer of MW2 more - not that I'd blame anyone for enjoying the purer experience of COD1.

The game itself is still really good, though the move back to nice traditional life bars was a bit of a shock to my system, what with me being awful at games!

    @MrMarc

Cheers - sounds like a purchase to me.
  • kewny #15 2 years ago

does anyone know if it has widescreen support and hd spruce up ?? Tempted as I loved the first on the pc even if it is steep. As long as it doesnt have massive side borders then I think I will bite...
  • superjag86 #16 2 years ago

It seems to run at full 720P with AA and v-synced at 60fps.
I love it, it still looks great and is a lot of fun!
I sneakily bought it when it was accidently released on the PSN store for £11.99
  • KayJay #17 2 years ago

im pretty sure its scales to the entire screen. If I remember correctly you have to go to the menu options and select 16:9 and all that but Im sure it fills the full screen.
All the press releases go on about "The Remastered Version" so I assume its going to be 720p?!?

EDIT: or what superjag86 said... ;)

  • jambo74 #19 2 years ago

Still got this for the PC so will give this a miss.
  • septimus #20 2 years ago

Meh, got it free with MW2. Not as good as you remember.
  • ObiChrisKenobi #21 2 years ago

I give it a few months before original COD maps are transferred over to MW2 for EVEN MORE cost to us.
  • carrotcake #22 2 years ago

yeah cod classic came out on psn a while back, I have it.
  • Syrette #23 2 years ago

Did anyone expect it to be any cheaper? Seriously?

Sony and MS base their pricing system around the amount of content, as far as I know. Not actual value.

  • dr_faulk #25 2 years ago

    Two questions:

    1) Does it have multiplayer?

    2) Does it have United Offensive multiplayer?
  • dingo75 #26 2 years ago

That reminds me: I'm stuck at the last mission of the addon which I started at "Hard".
The level is fucking impossible with thos Stukas bombing, spawning infantry and goddamn tanks...
  • nuffmon #27 2 years ago

Some one has definitely dropped a bollock here. CoD has been on PSN since MW2 came out.
  • metallicorphan #28 2 years ago

    @dr faulk

yes it has multiplayer, but only 8 players

no,it doesn't have United Offensive add on pack,i am hoping for them to release that as well at some time(as it had like 13 offline missions as well as 11 more online maps with vehicles)....but not if they are going to charge another 1200 for it

when i saw it on PSN(yup its gone now)it was £11.99..which is even worse depending on where you get your MSpoints from(i know HMV sell 2100 for £19.99 while GAME sell 2100 for £17.50)

i really want this, but unsure about fawking out 1200 for it...isn't Perfect Dark due soon or Serious Sam?
  • kipper #29 2 years ago

Its a bit pricey at about 10 pounds, but I suspect that if anyone bought the Prestige edition of MW2, then the worth of COD Classic is much greaterthan the worth of those silly night vision goggles and that plastic head.

I was really looking forward to this on xbox, but I will stick to the pc version until the price comes down a bit, just on principle.
  • Razorus #30 2 years ago

They could have at least streamlined the grenade select to Right Bumper in keeping with more recent CODs. It's a minor gripe but playing this after MW2 is very awkward.
  • kipper #31 2 years ago

i have just played the demo on XBLA and the night time missions are just too dark to play in parts. i literally got lost in unlit buildings because the entire tv screen was black (even with my lcd tv set to vivid setting). There is no option to adjust brightness in the game, and after a quick google this seems to be a frequent complaint.

I love the game on pc, but this really needs a patch to make it playable. The price was a sticking point, but the brightness issue is a real purchase killer. Shame.
