Call of Duty 1 heading to PSN/XBLA

PEGI and ESRB in agreement.

Activision is lining up the original Call of Duty for release on Xbox Live Arcade and PlayStation Network, according to ESRB and PEGI ratings sites.

As spotted on Kotaku, the US board lists the original World War II shooter for PS3 and 360.

PEGI, meanwhile, goes further, specifying that it's due out for XBLA and PSN. It's been rated 16+, in case you're interested.

The original PC release arrived back when Medal of Honor was king of the WWII shooters, but its developer - Infinity Ward - was staffed up by a number of veterans of Medal of Honor: Allied Assault, developed by the now-defunct 2015.

Some of the subsequent COD games were quite popular too.

Cool. I replayed this a year ago and it was still great. Surely it'll be a tad bigger than the size limit and we'll be charged 1200 for an old game but still.

Nice to have the option, but I got it brand new for PC for £1.99. I can't see it being cheaper than that, so I'll personally pass, but like I say it's a nice enough option to have.

Good News indeed. I have not played it yet.

Excellent - the only CoD I haven't played yet.

I already have COD1 and Uninted Offensive expansion pack for pc, so I would only buy tghis if the price is very cheap or if the graphics are improved.

I'll join the "nice, I haven't played that one". I signed up with COD2 on 360. Mmmmm COD2.....

MORE classics on Live and PSN, Less flower on a fart and crying to Braid type nonsense.

CoD 1 has excellent multiplayer - we still play it in work at lunch sometimes (because it'll actually work on most of the ancient machines that people have). Some of the best maps ever made and some great multiplayer modes that never made it into CoD2 as well.

If this had the multiplayer component to it then I could very well be tempted.

Is COD1 a PS1 or PS2 game. I read the it was released in 2003 which would surely make it a PS2 release. However the PSN listing would make it more likely to be a PS1 game unless something big is coming in a future FW release.
  • neilka #11 3 years ago

It's an XBLA/PSN game, so they're native 360/PS3 games rather than emulations of the originals.

CoD 1 only came out on PC. still remember the days of watching my brother play this when I was a young'un, can't wait for it to be released over XBLA!
  • polaris70 #13 3 years ago

I still play COD1 multiplayer, the weapons feel better than in any other COD game (I think they used quake3 engine for it). The Kar98K and the BAR are so much better in this game. Plus you have maps like Dawnville and Carentan...legendary maps. Infact, I remade Dawnville for Far Cry 2 on xbox. It's called Duskville1 if anyone stills plays it.

totally just remembered the awesomeness that was Stalingrad! mightiest challenge I think a game ever threw at me (granted I think I was like 11 when I played this :p) I agree with polaris, the weapons in CoD 1 were so good, much better than most other WW2 shooters I'd played.

    Rifle only (K98 RoxX!!!!) Harbour Map Server......total awesomeness....ahhh 2004 , the memories

This is the one with the assault on a fixed position from Band Of Brothers ep2, and the pegasus bridge mission. I remember it being a good PC game, though with some awful full-nappy animations of the soliders.

Yeah! I think Stalingrad was the best part of that (awesome) game, the apartment block defence was fantastic. The counter-sniping was also great.

Or am I mixing it up with the the expansion?

Dang, gotta reinstall that when I get home.

CoD PC or CoD: Finest Hour?
  • rhinoxious #21 3 years ago

COD1 has a great single player, and deecent multiplayer - we moved to COD2 at work, a bit more tactical and runs fine on the Macs some people have in our office.
  • polaris70 #22 3 years ago

    @twh104
It'll be the original PC COD that was made by Infinty Ward. Finest Hour on consoles was developed by Spark Ulimited who are one of the worst developers in the history of video games, they went on to develop Turning point: Fall of liberty.

with this and Battlefield 1943 ..Xbox live arcade is gonna be great this summer...IN for both
  • VandelayIndustries #24 3 years ago

So who's doing this version of CoD1 then? I would imagine that IW have their hands full at the mo.
  • clockworkzombie #25 3 years ago

    @ polaris70
I played the demo of turning point and it was bad. I found the game cheap and picked it up, it was surprisingly good fun I think also all my expectations were at rock bottom so there would be no chance of being disappointed I picked it up for about five pounds. money well spent.

Quite like this idea actually. The best of all the CoD games in multiplayer, simply because you actually value your health meter and the game was much more tactical as a result.
