Burnout Paradise's Big Surf Island dated

Jump in, up and all around in June.

Criterion Games has announced an 11th June release date for Big Surf Island on PS3 and Xbox 360.

This is the next beefy premium update for Burnout Paradise that finally offers a bridge out of the city to an area offering the biggest jumps in the game and a new sense of freedom. There's no word on cost, yet.

There's a lovely video of the content over on the official Criterion website.

Despite being released at the very beginning of 2008, Burnout Paradise continues to regularly expand as Criterion provides a shining example of what post-release DLC can offer.

Head over to our original Burnout Paradise review to see what the foundations were like, then cruise over to the official website for a list of what else is on offer.

    What about the PC?

Got to get me this! May be expensive but worth it.

I'm looking forward to this, but somewhat worried they've not mentioned the price yet... might mean it's really high :(
  • Ignatius_Cheese #6 3 years ago

Guesses on price vary between 800 (no chance), 1200 (probable) to 1600 (pricey but not unlikely...)

This however is a definite purchase. What with the additional play area, events, freeburn and timed challenges AND 9 new vehicles, this should be value for money, unlike Cops and Robbers...

I hope it has LOTS of new freeburn challenges as I really, really like those. Not just 10 per player range (2, 3, 4, etc).

Unless this costs 1,000,000,000 points, it's a must-have for me.

Depends on what's on offer really as to the price. I would suspect same cost at Lost & Damned.

With this and the new COD:WAW map, June is looking good.

the island itself will have to be free... the cars and events on the other hand... that may be charged for... but who knows... perhaps they realised they have screwed enough people over they will do the DLC for a much cheaper price?

Deal if it's £9.99 or under..might have to think about it otherwise
haven't bought any of the priced stuff yet but this should be worth it, judging by the their last vod/podcast it looks like a blast

on a side note, is it worth purchasing any of the retro cars, had my eye on the 'delorian' but not sure what it adds apart from a nice paint job
  • bodypopper #14 3 years ago

Hmmm. Gotta wonder why they didn't hold off on releasing the special edition of the game until this was ready.
Just have to get round to finishing the original now. It's fine but I still prefer the pick up and play factor of the early games. Probably because I don't give a monkey's about achievements etc.

/please lord, don't let them take the piss as they have with their car DLC...

@danathjo: if you're going to get any of the DLC cars, that's the one to get! Looks awesome, has a hover mode, it's fast and can stand up to a fair bit of punishment!

    1600pts - if not 2400
  • mashk #17 3 years ago

please let it be FREE. : )

the island will be FREE, but you will have to pay to play the single player events for that island, this is my best guess as the wont want to fragment there online community between the haves and have nots

Definite purchase for me as it seems to focus on what I liked about Burnout - freedom, exploration, stunts and jumps. I am not a fan of driving games but I really enjoyed this game and a lesser extent GTA4 (the combat put me off that game in the end). The racing in Burnout was the one thing I avoided as I was not interested in it.

"perhaps they realised they have screwed enough people over"

How did they "Screw people over" they provided almost 2 years worth of FREE downloadable content before they started charging for unecessary but fun cars...
