Blacksite in October

Slips a month.

Midway has announced that giant octopus-shooter Blacksite: Area 51 will be released in Europe on 26th October.

The beans were spilled in another of those financial calls, where the game was cannily moved out of Halo 3 month, September.

Blacksite is a follow-on to Area 51 from 2005, pipped as one of the most accomplished shooters on PS2 and Xbox ever.

But the similarities seem to end there, and added talent Harvey Smith (of Ultima, System Shock, Deus Ex: Invisible War and Thief: Deadly Shadows fame - phew) is keen to re-focus the game on being a pure shooter.

The result is a hugely promising title for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC - one we've had a chance to play with and natter to Smith about at the same time. Pop over to our Blacksite gamepage to find out more.

Smart move, moving it away from Halol 3. If even just a bit.

I wonder how many other games will slip quietly into October now that GTA IV has been pushed from its 19th October release date into 2008?

I never rated Area 51 on the Xbox so I'm really not expecting much from this game. The demo was OK but didn't convince me it was worth buying as it looks and plays like any other generic FPS. Aliens... check... Unreal Engine 3... check... big explosions... check... lots of weapons... check... controllable squad mates a la GRAW/Rainbow Six Vegas... check... there's absolutely nothing innovative or original about the game, it appears from the demo to be another bland, boring SF shooter.

    Yep.

I really enjoyed the first play through of the demo but on reflection there just isn't the time or money for games like this.

Will be a decent game, but nothing groundbreaking.

Is that giant octopus-shooter or giant-octopus shooter. Shurely a giant octopus-shooter is an oversized killer of nominally dimensioned cepholopods?

    [edit: spelling]

"Smart move, moving it away from Halol 3. If even just a bit. "

Not really. Puts it smack bang in competition with HL2: Orange Box. Better than being up against Halo, but I still know which one I'd choose....

Bioshock was developed by the creators of classic PC 'System Shock 2'. This was one of the best pc games it's time (90s). Bioshock is the game they wanted to make originally but did not have the technology back then (Though SS2 scored 90-95/100 in many PC gaming mags).

This is not a simply FPS: Bioshock is a mixture of decision making, rpg, free form adventure, fps, sub plots, action, story, character development strategy gameplay... A game that has been praised by many and has recently scored 10/10 the latest edition of 360 OFM.

    Don't ignore this game!

Played the demo and thought it was actually pretty fantastic.

I'm hoping it's released a little earlier on PS3, but i think thats wishful thinking.
