Beyond Good and Evil sequel coming News

PC PlayStation 2 PSOne PSP DS Xbox 360 PlayStation 3 Wii Retro
News by Ellie Gibson

28 May, 2008

Ubisoft has unveiled Michel Ancel's next project - a sequel to cult classic Beyond Good & Evil.

A teaser trailer for the game was shown for the first time at tonight's UbiDays conference in Paris. It showed a desert scene with Jade sitting atop a broken down car, using a parasol for shade. The camera panned round to show her piggy friend resting against the back of the car, a magazine on his head, snoring.

A fly began buzzing around the pig's head and he snorted it through his nose before muttering, "50." As the camera panned back out and rose high above the scene more buzzing and snorting was heard, followed by silence and then, "51."

And that's it - no official title for the game, no word on which platforms it's in development for and certainly no suggestion of a release date. Here's hoping more info is released soon.

Yippee! Finally a great title that get a deserved sequel! Looking forward to getting details of what new in this iteration and most likely to be multi platform as the last one.

Those who havent yet waded in BGE should do so!

Great.

And Beyond Good & Evil was written as a trilogy. So this should really be good.

There was a big bug about 2/3rds of the way through the patched PC version so I never completed it.

It was very good up to that point though. Maybe I'll see if it's backwards compatible with the 360.

I remember my Gamecube copy freezing on a cutscenes as well but perseverance got me through.

I did enjoy the original, it's a classic example of a game that never puts a foot wrong* or outstays it's welcome. While the gameplay was hardly groundbreaking it was incredibly tight and varied so this news of a sequel is right to be trumpeted.

*apart from the bloody TBC ending with Peej - that pissed me off

If this is anything like as good as the original, I will be happy. It had more character and charm than almost any game I've ever played.

And Jade was uber hot.

Great News!

unfortunately I only got half way throguh the first game because I traded in my old xbox when I got a 360 only to find out it was not backward compatible. I am sometimes tempted to pick up an old xbox just to finish it, awesome game.

On a side note, why do people on the internet write 'teh' instead of 'the'? I can never work it out.

The first game was great and I'm really excited for this, but that railer was disappointing. It all amounted to just one joke and not a very funny one at that. The art style was great though and I'm sure the full game will take greater advantage of that.

I think Microsoft should release the original on their 'original xbox download' service thing. Since only 3 people bought the first game it might be an idea to give the great unwashed an oppurtunity to play it before the sequal comes out. Might generate a bit more interest, maybe

Does this mean that Ubi has finally given it the green light? It was announced a few weeks back, but Ancel said it hadn't been funded. Best thing to come out of France since Sarkozy's missus' photo collection. Genuine piece of Ico quality genius. Was so glad when the PS3 back compat finally got it working - can play through it again when the sequel comes out.

Reggae Rhino hovercraft mechanics FTW.

Blows millions... I beg to differ.
Yes, the first BG&E didn't do well at all, but the game got a real cult status as time moved on.

Now, everybody's familiar with the name, a everybody knows its a game from a very talented developer.
If Ubi plays its cards rights, by bringing us a downloadable demo just before release, this could get the attention it deserves.

Look at GRID, that too was a series that was top notch, but never sold very well. But a great demo right before launch will propel this to the top. I'm tellin' ya mate, with PSN and XBL, devs are much closer to gamers. So the rules have changed.

The first one was a commercial flop, wasnt it? Undeservadly so since it was a great game and a critical success

Perhaps it was a slow burner, like Viva Pinata. I know I only bought it from all the positive things I heard about it on the internet.

Its a shame stuff like this gets overlooked yet dross like Haze still sells well.
