Assassin's Creed teases on Facebook

Game villain leaves cryptic message.

Assassin's Creed antagonist Dr. Warren Vidic has popped up on Facebook and left a mysterious message.

"It is the time of our rising. A new age enters and a great battle looms. Templar destiny is at hand and waiting for you. - Dr. Vidic," a status update on the Assassin's Creed page read.

A "great battle", you say? Could this be the multiplayer episode of Assassin's Creed II raising its head? It would fit the timeline Ubisoft provided earlier in the year.

An announcement, however, is likely to be positioned for E3 next month.

But we'll pester the publisher nonetheless.

"Templar destiny as at hand," apparently.

Any excuse for a bit of Monty Python aye.

@Pat, please go away and learn how games are made before you start all that nonsense again. Stuff gets cut. Bringing it back as DLC is an opportunity for developers to complete their original vision. Obviously some take advantage and clearly hold back finished content, but from as far as I've been able to tell that wasn't the case with AC2, and it's not like they charged 800MSP for each piece of DLC (which other publishers would have no problem with).

If the game's levels weren't numbered as 'Sequences'' none of us would've been the wiser that content was 'cut' until Ubisoft made the announcement that the 'lost chapters' would be added. I wonder how many games that have regular un-numbered levels, have whole swathes of content removed and we all play happily and obliviously because they aren't catalogued in a long list...

Assassin's Creed 2 is easily one of my favourite games ever, but to be honest when I first played it, I paid no attention to the 'DNA Sequence' menu as I was too busy just playing it. It wasn't until way after finishing the game when I read on Eurogamer that there were two sequences missing.

We often hear of developers frustration that content had to be cut - so I say well done Ubisoft on taking the time and effort to get those chapters completed and available for download. I should also say that having replayed the whole game with the sequences added, i think they actually spoil the pacing of the story. The story builds to an obvious crecendo and then suddenly, you are off fighting hordes of soldiers and then there are 9 random assassinations.

Yeah, because AC2 was *so* second rate.

Often there comes a point in a games development where it is realised what is being worked on and what the schedule has do not work. So content is cut. If DLC is avaliable of new levels on day 1, fair enough for complaining. If it comes out a few months later it is more likely it was being worked on after release.

    See Gears 2, Borderlands.

Your entire argument is null and void when you call AC2 "incomplete" or "second rate". Amazing game, took me ~28 hours to do everything and I didn't feel short-changed one bit. probably my multiplatform GotY 2009.

Although it's not any of your business, I don't like being accused of having ulterior motives. So no, I don't work in PR. I'm a game dev. And before you ask I didn't work on AC2 or anything else for Ubisoft.

Not seen this on Facebook - not bothered. Would rather poke Kirstin Dunst.

Awesome character, probably one of the best in the series, together with Al Mualim and yet, they've managed to side line him completely in the sequel... Good show, Ubisoft; You've really outdone yourselves.

Call me old fashioned, but quite honestly, I still prefer the original AC; At least, that one had a heart, mind and soul of it's own, unlike the sequels, which aims to be more GTA than even GTA itself, with no focus at all at times. I prefer more linear gameplay in a open-world setting, BUT with memorable characters, than having alliances every five seconds, with characters I barely care about or remember.
