Raven waves bye bye to LucasArts by releasing Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast source code

Squawk code I mean.

Raven Software has released the source code for vintage third-person Star Wars action games Jedi Academy and Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast.

"Raven is sad to hear about the closing of LucasArts today, we respected them and enjoyed working with them over the years," Raven said in a statement handed to Kotaku Australia.

"We wish the best for all the talented people who were let go and hope they find good work in studios in the industry.

"We loved and appreciated the experience of getting to make Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy for LucasArts. As a gift to the persistently loyal fanbase for our Jedi games and in memory of LucasArts, we are releasing the source code for both games for people to enjoy and play with."

Both of Raven's games were built on the Quake 3 engine. Jedi Outcast came first in 2002, followed a year later by Jedi Academy.

Neither game was a world beater, but Jedi Academy had satisfying Lightsaber combat and both became infinitely more fun with the addition of multiplayer, to which a dedicated group of fans still cling. There's a video of the multiplayer in action below.

Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy both scored 7/10 on Eurogamer.
