A Game of Thrones' King's Landing remade in Minecraft and it is amazing

For Tywin!

Holy Moly! King's Landing - the main city in George RR Martin's realm of Westeros (A Song of Ice and Fire, AKA A Game of Thrones) - has been recreated in Minecraft.

It is astounding. Recreating the city took 100 people four months. There are reckoned to be around 3000 buildings, all handmade and, get this, fully decorated on the interior.

The "wows" don't stop there. This Minecraft King's Landing belongs to a bigger project: recreating the entire realm of Westeros. We wrote a bit about this in July last year.

The project, WesterosCraft: A Game of Blocks, began in December 2011. There's a server you can join to help out but it's being hammered at the moment.

The builds are organised on the forum, the blueprints laid out in wool material for a team of builders to adhere to.

Already, iconic castles/locations such as Winterfell, Dragonstone, Casterly Rock, Lannisport, The Eyrie, Pyke and even Harrenhall, The Dreadfort and Sunspear Water Gardens have been realised in the game.

The realm-protecting Wall and Castle Black are done, too.

There are videos of these eye-poppingly detailed works being created on the WesterosCraft website.

The unfinished WesterosCraft map weighs around 35GB. It isn't available to download yet, but eventually individual cities and castles will be.

Recreating Westeros in Minecraft is phase one. Phase two will be using mod tools to make "a giant, open world RPG with quests and NPCS", according to project spokesperson pizzainacup on Reddit.
