A fan-made My Little Pony fighting game is in with a chance of making it to Evo 2013.
MLP: Fighting is Magic is an unlicensed in-development 2D fighter that is one of 17 candidates for the final spot at Evo 2013, the biggest and most popular fighting game tournament in the world.
Fighting game community website Shoryuken has launched a charity donation drive to determine the eighth game at Evo, with all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. A donation page has been set up for each of the most popular games in Shoryuken's recent Facebook poll, and the game that raises the most money will be at this year's Evo.
My Little Pony: Fighting Is Magic is inspired by the animated television series My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and is made by a small team of volunteers collectively called Mane6. It is most certainly not licensed from Hasbro, but it features all the friendship, magic and cartoon violence you'd expect from a fighting game based on the family-friendly pony universe.
MLP is up against some big hitters, including Super Smash Bros., Virtua Fighter 5, PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale and SoulCalibur 5. Tough competition for sure, but all it takes is a sizeable donation from Valve boss Gabe Newell, a self-confessed Broney, to secure MLP's place alongside Super Street Fighter 4 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3 at the prestigious Las Vegas tournament.
You know what to do. The winner will be announced at the end of January.
