Sony details "one price" Vita/PS3 cross-play content
MotorStorm! Hustle Kings! WipEout! UMVC3!
Sony has detailed its "one price" Vita/PS3 cross-play offers.
Cross-play is possible with PS Vita launch games MotorStorm RC, Hustle Kings, Top Darts, and WipEout 2048.
When you buy MotorStorm RC you will be able to play it on PS3 and Vita at no additional cost, Sony said.
When you buy Hustle Kings and/or Top Darts for Vita, you get the PS3 versions for free. If you already own these games on PS3, you can download the Vita version for free.
If you buy WipEout 2048 and you already own WipEout HD and the HD Fury DLC on PS3, you can download them as DLC packs for free when they launch on Vita later this spring.
And DLC bought for the PS3 version of Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 can be used on the Vita version for free and vice versa.
"Those who already own any of these titles for their PS3 systems will be able to download this same content to their PS Vita systems for free, and vice versa," Sony said. "There is no need to pay for the same content twice, highlighting the importance of the relationship between PS3 and PS Vita.
"But it is not only the ability to buy these games for one price and access them across both platforms that makes the relationship between PS3 and PS Vita so important."
WipEout 2048 owners on Vita will be able to race against WipEout HD owners on PS3 across four tracks at launch. This is separate to the offer detailed above.
Hustle Kings offers turn-based multiplayer between Vita and PS3 at launch. UMVC3 lets you use the Vita as a controller to play the PS3 version.
Vita launches in Europe on Wednesday, 22nd February.

The buy once get for multiple devices is definitely the best way to combat piracy and has worked pretty well on the "triple play BluRay DVD/Download" format. It also works well when iOS developers enable it for iPad/iphone.
I wasn't going to pick up a vita for a while, but this has certainly made it a more attractive purchase.

Don't get me wrong, my face lit up with glee upon reading this and then about 5 seconds later the thought that hit me was "how are they gonna screw me over". Honestly it has become a knee jerk reaction for me.
I hope I'm worrying about nothing. All it would really mean is that my brother may be about to lose access all the games I buy.

I've bought a good few games on more than one platform, but then I'm not your typical gamer.

Content basically locked to a console is backwards

Currently you have a 2 PS3 limit and a 1 PSP limit on one account.
I believe you just get a Vita as well for content sharing (werll stuff that makes sense to share). So having it on your Vita will not impact having it anywhere else.

I dont think Hustle Kings was given away 'free' with PS+ but it may have been discounted.

Especially for the upcoming MGS Collection and Final Fantasy X.

My only (minor) disappointment is that my UMVC3 purchase won't grant me access to the PS3 version (practice on the train to work, kick my mate's arse when I get home). I won't hold it against them though, I imagine codes granting Vita access will become more common going forward as it's also an extra incentive against the 2nd hand market.

You may have got it like me as a free download following the PSN hack last year. It wasn't on the UK offers but was on my Hong Kong account

No.
Buy Wipeout 2048 for the Vita and play it on Vita
If you want to play against someone in your house, with them using PS3 whilst you use Vita - Then you'll need to buy Wipeout HD for PS3
If you purchase/have already purchased the Fury DLC for PS3, you'll get it free of charge for Vita when its released.
Or if you only need the DLC for play on Vita - just buy it when its released.

No. 2048 is a Vita game only. The tracks for the PS3 games (HD and Fury) will be released as DLC for 2048 later this year. Free if you already own the PS3 games.

So Strangers Wrath is on PSN for PS3 and later this year a Vita version is coming out. Sony... Do the right thing there too and I'll love you even more.</quote>

Well, all the ps1 Final Fantasy games on PSN have been PS3/PSP compatible. Wouldn't be unthinkable for them to do the same with FFX and Vita.

So getting something for free is a bad thing? How exactly are we "selling our souls to the devil"?

Sort of. There are presently some levels in 2048 which exist in HD (4 I think). In these levels Vita and PS3 gamers can play together.
When the rest of HD and Fury's levels are released as Vita DLC then they too will be available for cross platform multiplay.
2048 is Vita only, but it's not unthinkable that a PS3 version will be released some time in the future. Or more likely the Vita levels will be released as DLC for Wipeout HD.

Your absolutely right it was the game i chose from the PSN outage, so i get it twice for free, Nice!

Yes, it seems UK aside, the rest of the world were offered Hustle Kings as compo for the outage, which is a shame as i probably would of got it.
Is it any good???
