Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record "faring well"

Capcom income falls nearly 50%.

Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 and Dead Rising 2: Off the Record are "faring well", Capcom said today.

The Japanese company said sales of both games were strongest outside Japan. UMVC3 has sold 600,000 units and DR2:OTR has sold 500,000 units.

Nintendo 3DS game Monster Hunter 3(Tri) G sold over one million copies and achieved its projected sales. The game is currently on sale in Japan only. Will it launch here?

Other games released in the period include Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D on 3DS and Monster Hunter Freedom 3 HD Ver for PlayStation 3.

Japan-only PC and Xbox 360 online game Monster Hunter Frontier Online "showed steady growth supported by its stable popularity," Capcom said.

Capcom discussed its games as it reported financial figures for the nine month period ending 31st December 2011.

Sales decreased 29 per cent, and operating income declined 47.2 per cent year-on-year.

Capcom blamed this decrease on a "surge during the same term previous year caused by the mass release of major consumer online game titles".

Capcom's forecast for the fiscal year ending 31st March 2012 remains unchanged and expects to make a profit.

It hopes to sell two million copies each of Resident Evil: Operation Racoon City and Street Fighter x Tekken.

Pay attention to your customers' experience, then you'll be better off in the long run.

I've not touched anything Capcom since MvC3 back in May or so, and I've no intentions on paying for anything Capcom until they stop pissing around.

Shame, as SFxT looks good. I don't trust them not to kill it in 6 months by offering a DLC sequel that they wont release as DLC. Or something else as ARSE-BACKWARDS-AS-FUCK, to use the Yank phrase.

Best of luck to them - I guess that their business practices show that they simply don't want my up-to £150 per year retail spend that I prob paid them several times between 1991-2011.

Shame - I don't like buying pre-owned, but they've relegated themselves to the bargain bin.

UMvC 3 and Off the Record should have just been expansions and not retail products. Might have saved them some money, but it sounds like they've got other things to worry about.

If UMvC3 is faring well how come VGChartz shows less than 100K copies sold across both platforms worldwide?

My simple 4-step plan for improvement:

Step 1. Release 3DS Monster Hunter game in Europe
Step 2. Release PS3/Vita Monster Hunter game in Europe
    Step 3. ...
    Step 4. PROFIT.

    @Ryze

I'm pretty much in the same boat, except that they don't screw you over on the 3DS (yet), so I bought Resident Evil Revelations. But I haven't bought anything of their console offerings for over two years.
  • roz123 #6 3 weeks ago

@rotsujin Because VGChartz pull numbers out their arse whilst they wait for real reports such as this. They will probably update those numbers to match these soon.

Can't we have some, ya know, game news? Previews? Opinion articles? Instead of these obvious financial stories? Shock... the world is losing money... End Shock.

I fully expect SFxT to get a re-release with extra characters and new gems within a year. It's not worth buying a Capcom fighting game unless it has an adjective in the title.

I've not bought a new Capcom game in six years, there's simply nothing that seems worth buying for a PS3 owner, just mediocrity and unoptimised port-overs from the 360, plus they just don't seem to make interesting games like they used to.

2 million copies of Racoon City...good luck with that.

@Ryze I with you on that one. I'm not great at fighters, but I do enjoy em enough to shell out a significant amount of cash for them.

After the whole UMvsC thing and some other publicity missteps on Capcom's part they've dropped farther down my radar.
  • siegarettes #12 3 weeks ago

@TheN7Spectre Its unfortunately very true. Every time I get hyped for SFxT I remember there is probably going to be another revision and it drops off the map again for me.

Even with the new version they'll stick nickel and dime you for costume packs or other nonsense.
