Konami confirms Silent Hill release dates

Downpour, HD Collection, Book of Memories due in March.

Three separate Silent Hill titles all hit US shelves in March, publisher Konami has announced.

First up on 6th March is Silent Hill HD Collection on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, which offers remastered versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3.

That's followed on 13th March by Silent Hill: Downpour, again for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It's the latest console release in the long-running survival horror series, and the first from new developer Vatra Games. Take a look at a trailer below.

Then on 27th March you'll get Silent Hill: Book of Memories on PlayStation Vita. Developed by Wayforward Technologies (of A Boy & His Blob and Might Switch Force fame), it's a top-down co-op action title.

European dates hadn't been confirmed at the time of writing, but we'll update as soon as they're made public.

Since when do the 3rd and 4th titles in a series get called a collection? Throw in the 1st and the 4th and I'll think about it.

Silent Hill 2 is one of my all time favourite games but I haven't played it in years so I'll be on this like a tramp on chips. I haven't actually played the 3rd yet so that'll be a nice little bonus for me.

Let's hope they make the camera low enough over the player otherwise you won't be able to see through the fog...

This is incredibly dumb....sparse out the HD collection much earlier, move the Vita title closer to its launch and then close out with Downpour in March.

Speaking of which, the vita game looks awful.

    "A top-down co-op action title."

Just what I think of when I hear the name Silent Hill! -_-

As for the HD collection, sure, I'd like SH4 to be there, but honestly I feel it's worth getting for an updated SH2 alone; SH3 being there is just a bonus.

    European dates plox.

I'm quietly looking forwards to Downpour. Soundtrack aside (that may still tarnish the experience quite a lot for me), the game itself sounds (and looks) pretty promising.

    Well that's march sorted.

Well, I've no plans whatsoever to get a Vita, but Book of Memories seems as though it might be fun for those who buy it. I hope it is.

What I'm really looking forwards to is the Silent Hill HD Collection and Silent Hill Downpour. It would've been nice to have had the original game included - even if it's just a hidden extra, but I'll be more than happy to play the tweaked versions of Silent Hill 2 and 3.

Silent Hill Downpour certainly looks as if it could be something good. Let's hope it doesn't disappoint.

Never played any silent hills. very excited by this HD release

Secretly looking forward to Downpour, I really hope it turns out well.

    @Silent-Hal

Was it updated? Isn't it just the same game at a higher resolution? You could increase the reso setting in the PC version ever since it was released.

If it's really gotten a proper makeover I'd be a lot more interested than I am now.

As for Downpour, I really want it to be great but honestly I'm not getting my hopes up anymore with modern sequels.

I really would wish publishers release horror games between Oct and Dec to maximise the chance of using all the dark evenings, March only give us limited darkness and then in UK we get British Summer Time lark at end of March and then even less darkness to play with!

Still HD collection a must for me, praying Downpour gonna be a great return to the franchise and wouldn't mind a demo to try out Vita's exclusive game. Gauntlet type of game seem a strange take of the franchise!! Too much ammo for shootings would take out all the scares and anxiety.

In a way, I admire Konami. They're not just taking out the trash, they make it count!

The collection, it isn't much of a collection at all, is it? And the fact that 2 & 3 have been tampered with by a bunch of total nitwits, well, it coloured me cautious to say the least.
Oh and Konami puppet Tomm Hulett had this to say about The Room not being included: "We didn't want to give them something we weren't sure they wanted 100%."
It makes perfect sense because that's exactly why we get Book of Memories, right? (gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10jhsmVZpGI)

As for Downpour, it'll be just another americanized spin-off that will effortlessly shit all over everything the original four games stand for.

But let's look on the bright side for a bit; those of us that know what's good for them will be saving a lot of money and spend it on better games.

Konami should make a Suikoden Collection, with 1-5. 1&2 with their 2D pixel glory, and then HD versions of 3-5.

dumb move, now the HD collection (which did have a perfect release date for January because nothing else is out)is now due on the same day as Mass Effect 3....who's fucking idea was that??
  • Acquiescence #16 4 months ago

March is packed to the gills now. Max Payne 3, Mass Effect 3, SSX are essential purchases...and now you can add Downpour and The HD Collection to the list (but not Book of Memories 'cos that looks pretty crappy). Fingers crossed that Downpour is as terrific as an open-world Silent Hill with side-quests promises to be.
  • Inmediasress #17 4 months ago

Is tehre any difference between these HD remakes and the PC versions of these games? I'm really interested if there is some difference.

Downpour doesn't seem to be better than SH5 ceartainly not a good survival horror more like some dead space 2 kind of shooting gallery.
Making it sandbox style doesn't do anything to get my hopes up in fact quite the opposite.

It's probably the fact that I haven't had my coffee yet but my brain cannot parse this. It seems to say that Silent Hill on Vita is going to basically be Gauntlet (with zombie-nurses I assume)?

    WTF?

Poor Silent Hill. It deserves better than this.

Was looking forward to the HD release but I'm going to see what the price is before I commit (2 is fantastic though, one of my fav games of all time).
  • Paulie_P #19 4 months ago

Please be good. Please be good. Please be good.
  • Bulbatron #20 4 months ago

    @jonfon I think it's going to be about £25.

i was hoping they include silent hill 4 in the collection as i never got around playing it... but i will welcome the second game with open arms as that game is my favourite silent hill! just hope this hd makeover will look good!
