I get what you mean. I loved Fallout 3, but for some reason didn't get into New Vegas as much. Definitely excited for Fallout 4 after playing Skyrim though.

It also helped New Vegas had much better music (in my opinion) and in general just oozed atmosphere.
But I did stop the moment I could no longer postpone having to go into the strip. Having to go there was what I liked least about New Vegas, having explored everything around it.
But that's all preference isn't it. Hoping for a fallout 4 too, either way : )

As said above, it bodes well for Fallout 4 though, which is now my most anticipated game.

And the way New Vegas was landscaped didn't feel quite right. Some hills and valleys felt very artifical. There's one are in particular that sticks in my mind, where theresa a train track running up a hill, but the slope is presented almost in a series of steps, just looked odd.
And for whatever reason, I just didn't get into the stories as much in New Vegas.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of course, but for me Fallout 3 beat New Vegas hands down.
