Sony's PlayStation Vita EU launch line-up

Uncharted, new MotorStorm, WipEout headline.

UPDATE According to Sony's PlayStation Blog, Super Stardust Delta and Gravity Rush will also be available from launch.

ORIGINAL STORY: Sony has announced its first party PlayStation Vita launch line-up for Europe.

Among the SCEE-published titles on shelves from 22nd February are Uncharted: Golden Abyss, WipEout 2048, ModNation Racers: Road Trip and a previously unannounced MotorStorm title.

Here's the full list:

  • Uncharted: Golden Abyss
  • WipEout 2048
  • Reality Fighters
  • Little Deviants
  • ModNation Racers: Road Trip
  • Everybody's Golf
  • Escape Plan
  • Top Darts
  • Hustle Kings
  • Unit 13
  • MotorStorm RC

Sony exec Michael Denny reckons it's "one of the best launch line ups of any games console, ever launched."

Six augmented reality cards that showcase the handheld's WAAR (Wide Angle Augmented Reality) features will also be available at launch, to be used with a number of free games available from PlayStation Network.

Unlike the 3DS's single-card AR, the Vita can read up to six cards at once over a much larger play area. It also supports markerless AR that does away with the cards altogether.

Vita also offers Facebook, Skype, Foursquare, Flickr and Twitter applications, as well as Sony's own new geo-based social plaything Near.

"We're counting down the days to the launch of PS Vita. This launch is something we are all so excited about at PlayStation as that's when we can see PS Vita where it was made to be - in the hands of gamers," commented Denny.

A full list of third party Vita launch titles is yet to be announced. However, Namco Bandai has already revealed that it will have Touch My Katamari, Shinobido 2: Revenge of Zen and console launch perennial Ridge Racer ready for 22nd February.

Codemasters' portable version of F1 2011 and EA's FIFA Football are also expected to appear close to launch.

Sony offered up the following list of third party titles currently in development for the Vita:

  • Army Corps of Hell, Square Enix
  • Asphalt: Injection, Ubisoft

  • Dungeon Hunter: Alliance, Ubisoft

Not a bad lineup. A bit full of racing games, but I don't expect any 60+ hour RPGs at launch. May have to get one, but probably not at launch.
  • INSOMANiAC #2 6 months ago

Makes the 3DS launch line up look like what it was....... shite.

Wheres Ubisofts shitty ports by the way?
  • DyingAtheist #3 6 months ago

I really want to love the Vita. Except for the stupid name. And the number of times I've been burned in the past by portable consoles, with rapid change prices and redesigns after the first buyers find all the design flaws. And the laughable downloadable pricing schemes of the past. And the 'stick a proper console game on a inferior control layout with inferior graphics rather then make a game designed for the console' shenanigans. And the 'oh lord smartphones have really ripped us a new one' market crash and reboot. Other then all those things though I'm really excited...
  • onezeonx #4 6 months ago

ill get a vita eventually....but not for another 6-9 months when its a little cheaper and better updates etc
  • Mister-Wario #5 6 months ago

Well, this is off to a strong start. Modnation Racers in particular is a great title to launch it with. I wish it every success.

Not that I'll be getting one anytime soon. Not because it's a bad console, but because I own both a PS3 and PSP and I'm curious to see what the DS is like.
  • doragonpawwa #6 6 months ago

I'd rather buy MvsC 3 on the Vita so I hope its launch with Rayman, love the series... I know I'd buy it again if I'd bought on the PS3 like previous Rayman games... ugh
  • spielorg #7 6 months ago

Gravity Rush and Super Stardust Delta are missing on the list though they're mentioned on the PS Blog as launch titles.
  • 52pickup #8 6 months ago

Would be great if they can get a YouTube app on this.

As for the games, yeah it's a pretty strong launch line-up.
  • Acquiescence #9 6 months ago

Gravity Rush isn't included on the list, and that game is shaping up to be one of the greatest launch titles to ever feature on a handheld console. Seriously, I want to buy a Vita just so I can play it. Otherwise...what a mighty fine line-up, if a bit heavy on racing games.
  • xuiton #10 6 months ago

would not be buying this... having to spend extra on memory and other pointless add ons. wait until they release a better version.
  • captainCandy #11 6 months ago

Will not want any of those, but will buy Vita eventually, when it gets them good games.
  • Apaar #12 6 months ago

Gravity Rush, Uncharted, plus the great backlog of amazing PSP RPGs (never owned the console) should be more than enough to make me an early adopter. :)
  • Springchicken #13 6 months ago

New Everybody's Golf! I'm really hoping they go nuts with customisation and accessories for this one. Love that damn franchise.

With Rayman and Disgaea I'm already sold. I hope that they can keep up the third-party support.
  • ro-kurorai #15 6 months ago

Gravity Daze (or Rush -_-) and U:Golden Abyss sold me on Vita, I don't need any more to be happy ^^.
  • jonbwfc #16 6 months ago

Theres at least five games there that I'd actually happily buy, even assuming you get WO2048 free with a 3G Vita. That's a very strong lineup.
  • SeesThroughAll #17 6 months ago

Holding out until the first price drop, or/and when the memory sticks drop price too. Right now, the combined Vita+storage price is just above my threshold.
  • mkreku #18 6 months ago

Wow, Skype support.. I love it.
  • geox30 #19 6 months ago

Escape Plane is the game that caught my attention the most.
  • JumpinJackFlash #20 6 months ago

The first party launch line-up is poor, there isn't one original game there. Instead, it's just more milking of established IP's.
  • robbiejc85 #21 6 months ago

@Mister-Wario I just invested in a DSi days before the 3DS price drop and I'm not regretting it a single bit.

There's just an awesome (and now cheap) back catalogue to work through - Zeldas, NSMB, Layton, Aliens Infestation, Okamiden, GTA Chinatown Wars... try it out I reckon, and then trade it in for the inevitable 3DS Lite / Vita 3000!
  • chessboxer #22 6 months ago

I'm happy with the 1st party lineup, from the 3rd party I'm looking forward to Ridge Racer, Bioshock and Ninja Gaiden but I really really want that Lumines game.

Lumines 2 & Supernova are amongst my most played titles. I am confident this new one will be just as awesome.
  • alexbulluk #23 6 months ago

Not a bad line-up, actually. I hope Vita goes well for Sony (because let's face it; PSP was a let down).

I've got my 3DS to occupy me now, but when LittleBigPlanet Vita comes out, it's going to be hard to resist.
  • reddevil93 #24 6 months ago

    Forgetting MGS collection, no?
  • bemani247 #25 6 months ago

hee hee Touch My Katamari, great title! a Katamri title alone is enough to guarantee a sale from me
  • Beano #26 6 months ago

Impressive list. And remember these are only the first party games, the full launch line-up will be even bigger.

This is still looking like a day one purchase. I'd have liked some FPS action in the launch line-up, but there's still a good chance of that with the third party releases.

I hope the Vita is a success.
  • doctorgonzo #28 6 months ago

"Little Deviants" sounds a bit worrying.
  • Toothball #29 6 months ago

    @Springchicken

I was happy to see Everybody's Golf there too. Sunk a good few hours into that on PSP.
  • Eoin #30 6 months ago

The first party launch line-up is poor, there isn't one original game there. Instead, it's just more milking of established IP's.

What on Earth are you talking about?

Reality Fighters is a new IP.

Little Deviants is a new IP.

Escape Plan is a new IP.

Unit 13 is a new IP.

I mean seriously, if you're going to troll, you could at least pick something that people won't immediately know is incorrect simply because they can read.

In fact, although I am unsure about this, I suspect that this the most first-party new IPs we've seen at the launch of any console. It's definitely the most first-party new IPs of any console in the past decade.
  • super_monty #31 6 months ago

Was stung by a psp so will not touch this will a barge pole.
  • NotSoSlim #32 6 months ago

You cannot be disappointed with 1st party line up as its standrd for Sony to release these and we still have 3rd party stuff. Solid line up which unlike with the 3DS shouldnt mean the handheld collects dust for months waiting for that one game
  • Vanmunt #33 6 months ago

3ds boxed up and ready to put down as a deposit for the vita... the previews of snake eater and the price of resi on the 3ds has made my decision for me.. its a great piece of kit but I really want a vita and there is little point having both.
  • ED209 #34 6 months ago

I was in the beta for Touch My Katamaran. I was disappointed to find that you're restricted to stroking one hull at a time.
DUAL WEILDING HULLS OR NO SALE!
  • Laythe_AD #35 6 months ago

It's not a very staggering list. Didn't Japan have something approaching double that at launch? Gets more interesting as you see what's in development mind, apart from the lack of RPG's that so suit these handhelds. I want to like the Vita. I love the look of the tech. I just want the games to back it up.

An Uncharted game was a good start, until I played Uncharted 3, and found myself rather fatigued with the formula half way though, so second nature had it all become even a year after playing the second game. Incidentally, I found myself rather agreeing with Eurogamers review score. A nine or a ten it is not.
  • NotSoSlim #36 6 months ago

Lack of rpgs? You can play the back catalog and still not get bored.

List is 1st party only as Fifa is a confirmed launch game
  • Marshall2008 #37 6 months ago

Uncharted is the only launch title I would buy, that and a screen protector as the screen is shitty plastic again and will get scratched to fuck like the PSP did.

'WAAR,huh! what is it good for? Absolutley...'Sorry.If this had GTA,I'd be there.Or Skyrim, ooh, that'd be nice.
  • xRiska #39 6 months ago

What happened to "Ruin", the game they showed off at E3? That got me more excited about Vita than any of the launch titles listed there.
  • pinchofsalt #40 6 months ago

  • DavidBoring #41 6 months ago

    @pinchofsalt
it's a game very much "inspired" by the wario ware games - but it looked entertaining nonetheless
  • ConciliarAxis #42 6 months ago

Bioshock, Mortal Kombat, Uncharted, hell yeah!
  • TonyHarrison #43 6 months ago

Not too much of interest for me there to be honest, it's basically the Uncharted game and despite playing and loving all three games so far, this Vita entry leaves me cold. So I think I'll wait until the lineup becomes a bit more fleshed out, or the inevitable redesign. Whichever comes first.
  • Serebii #44 6 months ago

Unlike the 3DS's single-card AR, the Vita can read up to six cards at once over a much larger play area.

That's funny, because I was using 12 on Pokédex 3D earlier...
  • Darksjeik #45 6 months ago

Is that the same Call of Duty that went missing on Experia Play ?
