Battlefield 3 ships 10 million copies

EA claims retailers already asking for more stock.

EA has shipped more than 10 million copies of Battlefield 3 to retailers, the publisher has announced.

Speaking during an investor call earlier today, CEO John Riccitiello claimed that it was already receiving requests for re-orders from vendors.

COO Peter Moore added that it represented the "biggest day one shipment the company has ever done," and it was "maybe double what we did on Medal of Honor."

It also confirmed that the game pre-sold three million copies to customers ahead of release.

Battlefield 3 launched in North America on Tuesday, with a European release tomorrow.

  • sybixsus #3 7 months ago

Judging by all the advertising, I'm assuming 9 million of those are Eurogamer readers.
  • SaintDaveUK #4 7 months ago

Nice. It's an excellent game and I hope it does as well as they expect.

It's out tomorrow? Does that mean all us EG users have to clear out for the battlog site EG has been replaced with?
  • Genyus #6 7 months ago

  • Hurleybird #9 7 months ago

Shame so many people can't play MP on Xbox thanks to this "Failed to Join Game. Please check your network connection and try again" error.
  • Mazzle #10 7 months ago

@Hurleybird Or PC due to the Origin activation servers being down :(

Server capacity right now is shit for B3. only 4-5 servers for eu.
Quick matche doesnt work, but server browser is awesome, as is the queuing system!

Once you get in though... good lord this game is amazing.

    360 version.
  • polaris70 #13 7 months ago

Twice as many sales in one day as Medal of Honor did in its lifetime, well done DICE, multiplayer is awesome. Shame about people not being able to join servers, I couldn't at first but filtered the server browser for rush only and eventually joined a server. I stayed on the same server from 1800 until 2330. Hopefully it will be a bit easier in the coming days.

11.11GB out of 13.59GB downloaded. Current DL speed is 850kbs. I'm going to bed.
  • Jonny5Alive7 #15 7 months ago

Shipped is not games sold. As people have already mentioned if EA know these big numbers then get the servers sorted!
  • Bravestinsane #16 7 months ago

    @lockload

Thanks, i manually assigned it to be blocked all good now
  • Kanjin #17 7 months ago

I thought of buying it for the single player, true fact, but then I read the review, it just sounds like CoD in a different box.

Game can't be played, I surprised myself by being surprised.

I didn't like BF3 campaign(i've played it 3 times already). Thought it was boring, tried too hard to be something it wasn't. You can't destroy anything they don't let you, a complete reversal from the promise of the frostbite 2 engine and even the bad company games as well as the multiplayer element. You stay in claustrophobic tunnels almost the whole game, and you can't take any direct control any vehicle besides the tank, and that's only to go down a straight street.

I think it was about the time i went one millimeter off the beaten path to shoot at some enemies and died because of the countdown that i realized i wasn't playing a Battlefield game at all. Stick with the multiplayer.

If BF3 was rated only on its campaign and not on the excellent multiplayer, the reviews unfortunately would not have been as glowing.

Optimistic. Hopefully we'll see the full sales figures next week.
  • Totza #22 7 months ago

@Kanjin why would you buy battlefield for the singleplayer? thats like Oblivion for multiplayer.. lmao
  • abot #23 7 months ago

    Shipped does not mean sold.

It would be great to see how many have sold. Especially in the first week.
  • Quixz #24 7 months ago

  • djronz. #25 7 months ago

Nice sales, there. I'm plucking my way through single player, and while enjoyiing its Ghost Recon edge, I still kinda yearn fr what BF2 was. It seems the less serious approach of Bad Company was actually more fun to play.

Any game where its you can die to easy, can be a turn off, but give BF3 more time, with more weapon unlocked and I'm sure it'll grow on me.

As for midnight cues, bugger that, especially in this weather. Preordering all the way now.

By the way, that 8/10 seems a fair score after actually playing BF3.
  • homerramone #28 7 months ago

Itll be people buying it as a sort of cheap rental 'til cod comes out ;-)
  • linksdad #29 7 months ago

How many have failed to connect to multiplayer?
  • SFG_Clan #30 7 months ago

I actually like the campaign so far, I mean its a bit better than CoD (although that isn't exactly hard with them using an aging engine and the same formula for every story).

The multiplayer is  ... so goood
  • MakeYourself #31 7 months ago

@inutaihanyou You didn't like the campaign and yet you've already played through it 3 times?! Jesus, I'd hate to see how much you play games you actually enjoyed...

Good to hear the open beta didn't even accomplish its stated goal of ensuring the servers could cope.
