Lego Batman 2, Hobbit tie-in incoming
Warner Bros. talks 2012 plans.
Lego Batman 2 and a videogame based on Peter Jackson's impending The Hobbit movie are among Warner Bros Interactive's plans for 2012, the publisher has revealed.
WBI's president Martin Tremblay mentioned the two games in an LA Times interview, along with a mystery title featuring a DC Comics character.
It also has a number of casual online titles in development for younger players at a new Montreal studio, based on various Warner brands.
The first Lego Batman title launched back in 2008, picking up a very respectable 8/10 from Eurogamer's Dan Whitehead.
The publisher has had a pretty impressive 2011 so far, with Mortal Kombat, hit downloadable RPG Bastion and Batman: Arkham City all under its belt.

Lego Star Wars is still an insanely popular line and was so before the games were made. But basically, it has to be relatively child-friendly. This is probably why we won't see a Lego Call of Duty or whatever. In any case, making lego soldiers like that strikes me as a tad creepy.
That said, while most Lego games had sets made before the games, this isn't always the case. We had Lego Rock Band without any Lego musicians, and there were Lego Prince of Persia sets but no game.

Oh and is Peter Jackson still planning on making 2 films of The Hobbit? Because the article says 'film.'

Lego just picked up the licence for DC (which includes Superman, the Green Lantern and Wonderwoman, rather than just Batman) as well as Marvel, so it's pretty likely to happen. Shame they've decided to go with another pure Batman game rather than the Justice League.
A Lego Avengers game seems almost certain though.

Hopefully LEGO start making some more actual Batman sets to tie in with it, my boy missed it the first time around and would love them now after the first game.
Probably not long before we get some kind of LEGO

Spongebob Squarepants

So looking at those, with the exception of Spongebob and Batman, the sets they bring out tend to coincide with movie releases. Now if they do have the Marvel licience then the Avengers is probably a safe bet, if they do another Pixar film it will almost certainly be a range to go with the upcoming Monsters Inc 2. But thats talking about the playsets, what we want to know is what will be the next lego videogame franchise. LOTR is possible, An Avengers game taking in the solo movies aswell would be epic, or do they go back to an old film? If so could we see Lego Back to the Future? Lego Goonies? I think a good old film to get the treatment could be Lego Dick Tracey! The style would fit in well with Legos silent movie style take on things. Who knows
