Alongside the game announcement, Sony Ericsson shared some interesting Xperia Play stats.

I'd rather have Saucy Jack, the Spinal Tap game.

I got an Xperia Play the other week. I picked up Minecraft and some version of Slitherlink. I've probably spent more time trying to find the right clock widget for so far than playing games on it.

Regardless, exclusives are nice, but is this one any good? I'm new to this phone gaming thing, and coming from a more traditional gaming background I like to know whether a game is good before I pay for it, whether that game costs £1 or £100. The number in between doesn't often factor into that.

Edit: Wait, I thought on this a bit more and it turns out I was lying. I buy all sorts of games on Steam for no other reason than that they're cheap. I guess that's the way mobile gaming works too, I just have to get my head around it first. I'll probably buy this later, the description implied that the price was a limited offer too and I'm a sucker for a gaming sale.

Hmm, I liked Cordy on Android, but can never get far playing a platformer with a touchscreen. I guess the Xperia Play solves that problem nicely.

Well, it turned out to be quite a pleasant game. It does come off initially as a tunnel shooter, but you spend as much time trying to speed through sections with series of boosters, and catching Zs that are spread around the levels. Some levels don't even contain enemies, instead challenging you to focus on manoeuvring to catch everything. The game is pleasantly colourful on the whole, although my Play did have a few pauses for thought when I found the option to increase the graphics quality in the menu. Made for an interesting diversion from Starfox, which is currently parked in my 3DS.
