Sony launches huge PSP software sale

"To show you that PSP is still alive."

Apparently there will be 50 more on the 7th of September. Well they said this was only the first half at least.
  • varsas #2 9 months ago

I bought Grandia last night! :D
  • J0rdan_KZ #3 9 months ago

Some real gems and some great savings there! Same neither of the God of War nor Final Fantasy games are for sale. Those are amazing.
  • iriihutoR48 #4 9 months ago

The PSP is a great system with a solid software library. No new games while putting old games on sale is proof that it's dead rather than the opposite. I will buy Persona 2: Innocent Sin and FF Type-0 (if it gets a western release) but apart from that, I've already moved on to the Vita.
  • patch #5 9 months ago

Bear in mind the Vita will be backwards compatible. You could be canny and snap up some bargains for the future.

I actually dug out my PSP for some gaming action a few nights ago after being sick of my hubby stealing the TV.

I'm tempted to get Grandia, just to have it on my PSP. I impatiently bought the US version last year before it hit the EU store and sadly can't play that on my PSP. I really wish Sony would release Wild ARMs on the EU store though, I would love to have that on my PSP too.

I'm also really hopeful that Sony will release Breath of Fire 4 on the EU store as well, seeing as it just came out in the US store. I adore Breath of Fire 3 yet haven't touched number 4 in years.

Downloaded Chinatown Wars this morning to play on the train, but couldn't transfer it to my PSP without performing a PSP system update (which contains no new features), and my PSP only had 2 hours of battery so wouldn't let me install the firmware.
    Maybe tomorrow :(
  • Ryze #8 9 months ago

Too late! I sold my PSP last year!

BUT - I'll buy a 2nd hand, dirt cheap one at some point to take advantage. Maybe.
  • captain_Carl #9 9 months ago

Snapped up Katamari last night. Might grab a few more before it's over, in prep for Vita.

Some great deals here not to be missed
  • richarddavies #10 9 months ago

Not sure what it is but my old PSP1000 just doesn't like playing games off the memory stick duo, I've downloaded a few (god of war, ratchet and clank). One hasn't started the other crashes at the same point on the first level. Tried re-downloading a few times and even downloading to PS3 and porting them over but same thing. Just think my PSP is a bit long in the tooth now. Some good buys here though and will be nice to have a back catalogue come vita launch.
  • billy-beauts #12 9 months ago

I got Tekken 6, which is pretty awesome on the PSP. And I'm thinking bout getting Chinatown Wars, which I have played before on the DS, but I hear the PSP version is the best.
  • -cerberus- #13 9 months ago

    It's on life support.
  • OnlyMe #14 9 months ago

PSVita will be able to run these games, won't it?
  • gm914 #15 9 months ago

Alright, I'll be the first to lol at the chosen image of a PSP-GO and the words "I was betrayed."
Well played EG nerds, well played.
  • captain_Carl #16 9 months ago

Shu said on twitter yesterday that their emulator isn't completely tested so it's not 100% definite that a downloaded PSP game will work on Vita.

But i think it's a safe assumption that most will

Love my PSP and used it loads but can't help feeling that if Sony had priced these games at this level on PSN to begin with then the system might have taken off a lot more. Could even have saved the PSP Go? Still ridiculous that old download games are priced far higher than you can get boxed versions in the bargain bin. Hopefully a lesson learned for Vita (my Vita is on pre-order and I can't wait).
  • MuchoPies #18 9 months ago

Prince of Persia - The Forgotten Sanes (was £23.99/€29.99 - now £11.99/€14.99)

Cool never heard of this one, hohohohoho
  • Ror1984 #19 9 months ago

Aww, I already have Grandia. Everyone should buy Grandia.
  • AliRay #20 9 months ago

"To show you that the PSP is still alive".

    Yep, that's what I think when I see a fire-sale like this...
  • Chibi-Kibou #21 9 months ago

Oh I hope lots of people pick up Grandia, that game deserves way more attention >
  • souvlaki #22 9 months ago

Capcom Classic Remixed\Remixed - So when I get the Vita, I will have these running through two emulators? Hmmm, I somehow see this falling over.

Bought Tekken 6 and Power Stone Collection so far. I wish Capcom would release the UMD only Ghosts n Goblins on PSN ready for Vita. Tempted to get Chinatown wars as it is my favourite DS game by far. Such a shame piracy knackered sales and stopped a follow up ( I assume).
  • HyperTails #23 9 months ago

I'm glad that there's a second part because those don't really interest me or I have them already.

Except for Grandia and Lunar. Never played Grandia, but heard good things about it. Is it worth it?

Might get Lunar: Silver Star Harmony actually. Loved the demo, but never got around to buying the full game for some reason, though I wasn't too keen on the lack of a UMD release...
  • berelain #24 9 months ago

Some decent deals in there. Darkstalkers for £3.99? You are MINE!
  • gribb #25 9 months ago

Z.H.P for that price is a bargain!
  • Ror1984 #26 9 months ago

@HyperTails - get Grandia. A word of warning though - I bought it when it first appeared on the PSN, and I hadn't played it since its PS1 release. It's quite a bit more 'kiddy' than I remember (I guess I actually have grown up a little in the last ten years), but if you can ignore that, it's still a fantastic game with a great story. For £4.79 it's a steal.
  • Monkeyspoon #27 9 months ago

Most of the UMD versions are cheaper elsewhere.
  • Gideon813 #28 9 months ago

This makes me think 5 years in the future when there will be a sale of Vita games... What kind of fantastic games will we be able to buy for this new and awesome handheld...
  • asphaltcowboy #29 9 months ago

Isn't this evidence that the PSP isn't still alive?
  • EVERYGAMER #30 9 months ago

I'm Alive and to show you how alive I am I'm gonna sell all my stuff!
Not fooling anyone Sony, Just should have said with the iminent arrival of the Vita we're gonna send the old PSP off with a bang!
That would be believable and as Vita is backwards compatible you could still use the games if you upgraded at some point, which looking at the Vita seems a bloody good idea I certainly want one.

  • 1Dgaf #31 9 months ago

Fuck. I bought ZHP from a shop last night for £29. Shit. I didn't think to check it was on the store to begin and now I find out it'll be half price.

  • ProtoformX #32 9 months ago

That actually makes me want to buy a PSP - it's getting cheap now and being able to play Grandia again and pick up Megaman Maverick Hunter X for £3.99 sounds brilliant.
  • kingcrowbar #33 9 months ago

Is there actual confirmation from Sony that the Vita will run full PSP software and not just minis?

Or is everyone just assuming it will happen, like they assumed the PSP GO "must" have some UMD transfer system (Post to Sony/Official iso ripping tool) before it was released?
  • captain_Carl #34 9 months ago

Yes, the Vita will be backwards compatible with downloaded PSP games.
  • alcides #35 9 months ago

    @kingcrowbar

Actually, they're gonna just ignore the library of fantastic games they have painstakingly built on PSN and not make money off of that. AT ALL.

Of course PSVita is backwards compatible.
  • Cadence #36 9 months ago

SFA3 is great and a steal at that price.
  • Alestes #37 9 months ago

The PSP would be more alive if the following games were available on PSN. There are so many UMD games still missing from PSN.

•Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles (released on US PSN but not here, why?)
•Final Fantasy Tactics: The War of the Lions
    •Star Ocean: First Departure
    •Star Ocean: Second Evolution
    •Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
  • weebl #38 9 months ago

    @ollyn
I'm sure there is a Dark Alex plugin for that.

  • captainCandy #41 9 months ago

  • Mister-Wario #42 9 months ago

Well, I don't know if I'll be getting any of these, but it's nice to know the PSP is still remembered.
  • HiddenAway #43 9 months ago

    @Alestes

War of the Lions came out a few weeks ago and is £7.99. Not to be sniffed at ;)
  • Quak #44 9 months ago

Could you put some MetaCritic scores besides each of those please? Thanks. :p
  • bemani247 #45 9 months ago

Some top games in here, Grandia, Melty Blood, ZHP, Katamari....my bank account is gonna take a bashing now...
  • Gumersindo #46 9 months ago

    Is it alive?
Well, give me a date for Valkyria Chronicles 3 and I'll trust you.
  • callum9999 #47 9 months ago

"PSP is so alive that we're having to virtually give away content to restart its heart" - Has everyone (me included!) not been moaning that the PSN prices are far too much to be a viable service? Now the prices are reduced to a reasonable level and now people are moaning about how they are "virtually giving away" games...
