Watch Evo in PlayStation Home

Daigo, Wong, Hart hit Home Theatre.

You'll be able to watch fighting game tournament Evo 2011 in PlayStation 3 virtual world PlayStation Home, Sony has announced.

The largest fighting game competition in the world begins on Friday and runs to the end of the weekend.

It takes place at the Rio Resort in Las Vegas, and will be streamed on the official Evo website, but will also be beamed into the PlayStation Home Theatre, as revealed by the US PlayStation Blog.

Players will duke it out on Marvel vs. Capcom 3, Tekken 6, Mortal Kombat, BlazBlue: Continuum Shift II and Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition.

Expect Street Fighter world champion Daigo Umehara to play an important role alongside US champion Justin Wong.

Korea's Poongko and UK champion Ryan Hart will also appear.

Watch Evo in Home on Friday and you'll get a limited edition Evo t-shirt for your avatar. Watch on Saturday and you'll get a special fighting stick companion item. And watch on Sunday and you'll nab a replica of the Evo trophy for your Home personal space.

Went into PlayStation Home Theatre for the first time last night but couldn't see anything to do with Evo in there. Do they normally announce/preview events in there?

From what I saw there were loads of separate cinema theatres; is that likely to mean there'd be one for Evo and then you'd be able to pick from a number of game streams, or there's only likely to be the one (and Sony will choose which match they show at any one time)?

codekind - if previous events are anything to go by one section of the cinema will dedicated with each screen showing a different stream.

As for upcoming events, they tend to use the blog to disseminate information so it's unlikely there'll be anything in the cinema now for the Evo event, a poster may pop up later in the week but in the past Home events have just happened without any in Home advertisement.

This is actually kind of neat. I think I'll go download all the updates for home (I haven't used it in literally years), so I can watch it on my TV.

Ultra David and James Chen are on the main mics. It's going to be sick.

I see Mike Ross potentially causing a huge upset this year, he's definitely the sickest underdog out there right now.

    Daigo or Poongko will win.

I haven't seen any MvC3 streams in the last 2-3 weeks - has Justin Wong switched to a Phoenix team, or is he using anti-Phoenix technology?

Bro! Don't get too excited lest you spill your Pepsi Maxxx onto your keyboard.

Wow, Sony have actually found a way to make me use PS Home.

I'll be supporting anyone not using the twins. Would love That Mike Ross Guy to make top 8 and will be cheering on Wolfkrone's Viper too.

Updates usually (or used to) go out on Thursday, so I would expect to see Evo-related stuff in there then.

@fiery_jackass: That was godlike! You totally downloaded me and put me on blast! I guess I'll be sleeping in the salt mines tonight.

Thanks for the replies @Murton, @uknortherner2000.

Last night was the first time I ever went into PlayStation Home Theatre; can't say I was overly impressed with the design/UX but if they're streaming Evo I won't care.

As for who's going to win Evo; I see where @airjoca is coming from. If neither of those win Evo I at least want to see them face each other as it should be an incredible match.

Mike Ross top 8. Dark horse Wolfkrone maybe?

Talking about SSFIV:AE by the way.
