Crysis 2 to unravel Crysis mysteries

Explains events, provides more information.

Upcoming science fiction shooter Crysis 2 will unravel some of the mysteries left dangling at the end of 2007 FPS Crysis, Crytek has teased.

Crysis 2, set three years after the events of the first game and standalone expansion Crysis Warhead, sees players muck about in a ravaged New York City under assault by an alien invasion – a far cry from Crysis' open sandbox jungle setting.

"There is a continuation of the Crysis 1 story and some flashbacks to some Crysis 1 information," executive producer Nathan Camarillo told Will Porter for Eurogamer.

"If you're new to the Crysis universe you won't be lost and you'll understand there's a deeper fiction there and maybe you'll want to go back and play Crysis 1 as a result.

"But if you played Crysis 1 it'll reveal some of the mysterious to you and give you more information about them, some of the characters from Crysis 1 and events that happened and why they happened.

"It's actually really cool how it all plays together. But that's for you guys to experience when the game comes out."

One question we're keen to answer is whether British SAS Sergeant Michael "Psycho" Sykes, star of Crysis Warhead, makes an appearance.

"You'll find out," is all Camarillo offered.

But will it explain the meaning of the word "crysis"?

I'd consider aliens attacking to be a crisis, and cryo is a prefix to denote "cold" which relates to the fact that half the island was frozen in the original. It also references the developer.

Incidentally Crytek seemed to have ditched the fact that the aliens needed extremely cold temperatures to survive before, so I hope they explain that.

Crysis's ending was even more ridiculous than Halo 2's, but at least Halo 3 continued from where 2 ended, whereas in Crysis they've skipped a ton of storyline to get to New York.

Why do people like Psycho so much?

Jason Statham sucks, especially when doing his hardman cockney accent.

Yeah I hope they clear that up and also explain why they look completely different from the aliens in 1!

I wonder why I found a "cloaked" frog in the underground trainstation in Crysis Warhead.

And hopefully they'll include a recap for the people who didn't play the first one.

Yeah I'm desperate to know what went down in the first Crysis game. Thats been nagging away at me for years, the fact that I never got to experience the narrative brilliance of the original Crysis. I bet its a story for the ages, one of the great masterpieces of story telling. or something.

I have been playing some Crysis mods and singleplayer levels to get me into it again. Looking forward to Crysis 2, please don't let us PC gamers down Crytek.

    @arcam
It wasn't Jason Statham who played Sykes but an actor named Sean Chapman.
The internet is a wonderful thing!

    Stoked for Crysis 2 btw.

Do poor people get a comic?

Psycho was a great character. He captured the British squaddie mentality quite well I think. Great voice acting too.

I'm a bit dubious about Prophet being the player character this time around as I always got the impression they were setting him up as a well-meaning mentalist. A bit like Captain Price was in MW2 like.

All I remeber happening in Crysis, in this order was this:

    1. I crapped my pants over the graphics, and for hours stared at trees, water, objects etc.
    2. I choked a lot of north koreans, and had a lot of fun.
    3. Jason Statham a-like showed up and i enjoyed his accent.
    4. Aliens showed up and it was all a bit MEH.
    5. The level on the aircraft carrier nearly broke my pc, and my framerate averaged at about 1fps.

The story is completely beyond me =(
