Quake Arena Arcade dated for XBLA

Classic FPS out this month.

Quake Arena Arcade will available on Xbox Live Arcade from 15th December, publisher Bethesda Softworks has confirmed.

It's about time too – the game was first announced more than three years ago.

Based on id Software's beloved 1999 shooter Quake 3 Arena, you'll be able to frag up to 15 of your friends in six game modes, including 'Deathmatch', 'Capture the Flag' and 'Harvester'.

There are over 30 classic maps included, 12 Xbox-exclusive arenas and a brand new Single Player campaign too.

Take a look at the screens below for a better of idea of how it's shaping up.

A spokesperson for Bethesda told Eurogamer that pricing would be confirmed next week.

Q3A remains one of my most favouritest multiplayer games of all time. There's basically this, Halo and Perfect Dark in a holy triumvate.
  • lew15ewad #2 1 year ago

Give it to me on my PS3. Unreal was awesome with mouse and keyboard support. Come on id. You can do it.
  • ianegg #3 1 year ago

I will forgo mouse support on the PS3 in exchange for Move support, MP3 style, please!
  • altitude2k #4 1 year ago

    nomuselol

I am a mostly a console gamer so I have fond memories playing this on the Dreamcast and every one pausing to slag each other off with the ingame message system, granted it took about 40 seconds to wright, do one you asshole, but I still enjoyed it.

Someone port Unreal Tournament to XBLA and I'd pay double!
  • BluShock #9 1 year ago

I presume there is no chance of a PS3 version? :(

Loved Q3 might try it on a pad, might.
  • skuzzbag #13 1 year ago

Really loved q3 arena on pc I just hope the elegance and speed of movement in the keyboard/mouse game translates to a controller setup.

    ANARKY! SARGE! PHOBOS!
  • KingPepper41 #15 1 year ago

    @DaftFunker,
I hope it will be 800 MSP, but alas i think its going to be more like 1200-1600, because of all the maps being present plus the extra XBOX exclusive maps being available as well, even so this is a first day purchase, i can't wait to play the greatest FPS on PC on XBOX Live Arcade.
Another classic FP shooter i would like to see on XBOX Live as well would have to be a High Def version of Medal of Honor Allied Assault with the expansion pack Spearhead (My second favourite FP shooter on PC). :o)

Good news,XBLA needs a solid deatmatch option.
I'll buy this even though I'm sick of the FPS.
  • RodHull #17 1 year ago

    Yayyyyyyyyyyyy! Love it!
  • The_Inquisitor #18 1 year ago

Takes me back to my Dreamcast days... I'm still shit at FPS's.
  • metalangel #19 1 year ago

    Take that, COD BLOPS!
  • NunianVonFuch #20 1 year ago

I'll buy this, play Longest Yard (Q3DM17) a few times, long for a mouse for those unbelievable railgun frags and then never play it again. Unless they optimized the aim for consoles, if so... =D (",)
  • t8yman #21 1 year ago

oh, this is such good news. many memories from my first ever onlines games on the PC. It was a joy.
    day one purch.
  • metroid455 #22 1 year ago

oh man thats fantastic id love to get it, if i had a 360 that is
comon guys ps3 as well please
  • EmiliasHorse #23 1 year ago

I had no idea this was coming... I must be getting old or soft but I no longer enjoy FPS as much with mouse and keyboard, I have become consolified!

Also Phantom_Dynamite brought back very fond memories of DC version...oddly I bought a DC keyboard and mouse for that. Damn you Halo it is all your fault then for my consolification.

Dear MS thank you for the two free games on XBLA, both lots of fun. In turn I have bought 4 other XBLA games in December and now you have secured a fifth.

    Quake on a gamepad = a joke.

Couldn't agree more. Nothing beats a mouse and keyboard for any FPS game. Expect your comments to get marked down, because of all the kiddies who have no clue what a real FPS game is, or how a mouse works. :)
  • Lord_Gremlin #25 1 year ago

I disagree with those who say that gamepad is not suitable for shooters. A lot of great shooters play very nice on gamepad.
However Quake 3 is not one of them: it's almost exclusively focused on unrealistically fast action including split-second accurate aiming, which is very uncomfortable with a gamepad.

It might have worked for PSN with mouse and keyboard support. On xbox360 it's dead on arrival.
  • Tinrib72 #26 1 year ago

More good news and yet depressingly negative comments of 'how my holier than thou control scheme is superior to yours' crop up. Its released on a console that (thankfully) doesnt have mouse support. If the game or console has no interest to you, why fucking bitch about it?

    Jesus, get a life!
  • Windypops #27 1 year ago

    SOLD!

Quite properly looking forward to this. It'll be nice to play it sat on a sofa with a gamepad, rather than hunched over a keyboard.
Also, nice to see the mouse-and-keyboard PC gaming elitists are still in rude health - and still virgins, by the sound of things.
  • Machetazo #28 1 year ago

I don't need this version of this, because in the new year, Nexuiz will be available. Made specifically for the console.
  • altitude2k #29 1 year ago

I think it's a bit narrow-minded and patronising to say that those of us that prefer pads are "Kiddies" or don't know what we're talking about.

I grew up strictly as a PC gamer. CS, Q3, the GP series, the DID sims and Battlefield were my games, and the mouse and keyboard were my weapon of choice. But I've grown to see the benefits and eventually love my console pads, and I intend to thoroughly enjoy this release.
  • jebus #30 1 year ago

Finally - I played this on partner yet about 8 months ago and it seemed pretty solid then. It worked really well on the pad I thought at the time. Couldn't try any multiplayer out at the time. I guess that is what they have been working on
  • peteb #31 1 year ago

Hey as long as everyone is using a controller it gets my vote! I remember Quake 3 Arena being a tad too easy on the Dreamcast when I had the mouse & keyboard anyway. :-P
  • KrispyBacon #32 1 year ago

This game was my first online experience with the Dreamcast. Will be picking this up for sure, fantastic game!.
  • AdamAsunder #33 1 year ago

I'm all for FPS on console but I can't really see how Quake 3 Arena can work on the pad without being a shadow of it's former self. As someone else said the railguns effectiveness is solely reliant on the mouse.

I don't mind being proven wrong and I'll gladly buy it if it's any good. I can't believe it took so long to get released however.
  • rojjer #34 1 year ago

    @chiz

And what about PC owners that have consoles too and aren't afraid to use both? I'd rather be that guy than an elitist that claims that using a mouse and keyboard is the *only* way to play games.
  • beatwolf #35 1 year ago

lol rofl this is one fucking game i will never play with a joypad / stick controller. Used be pretty good at this back in the day.. won't ruin those memories by playing it with a shitty controller.
  • CrispyLog #36 1 year ago

Hopefully the delay has been because they are making sure it works on a gamepad. I always thought Quake 3 and Counter-Strike were two shooters that couldn't work on consoles so I am eager to see if they can make Quake 3 work, please do.
  • metroid455 #37 1 year ago

now now chiz stop being a jerk, im fully aware of the precision you get from a mouse,
however a controller works fine for shooters too
  • obscured021 #38 1 year ago

dont think this will sell well, as quake live is free , and will run on almost anything, also its easy to sit on ur sofa and play all ur pc games, most people i know including me have there pc hooked up to there tv and sound systems, control pads are not good for FPS,RTS, but work well in most other games.

Show me a locked 60FPS video of an online match with no screen tear running in 1080P(heck even 720P). I don't care if they add a boatload of visual effects and change the character models up. I want a smooth and crisp quake experience online first before anything else.
  • nuanimal #40 1 year ago

Unfortunately Microsoft prohibits devs from allowing mouse support in their games :(
