LEGO Pirates of the Caribbean ahoy!

Oh me hearty is racing.

The next mega-licence to be given the LEGO treatment will be Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney has announced.

It'll be released on DS, PC, PS3, PSP, Wii, Xbox 360 to coincide with the new POTC film - On Stranger Tides - in May 2011.

LEGO Pirates will straddle the story of all three existing Pirates films - Curse of the Black Pearl, Dead Man's Chest and Johnny Depp Goes Sailing Part 3 - as well as the new movie.

There's two-player co-op as well as Freeplay mode, which lets you travel back to already completed levels.

Talking of levels - there'll be over 20. And you can take on the role of more than 70 different characters.

TT Games - maker of LEGO Star Wars, Potter, Indiana Jones, Batman, etc. - will develop.

This is brilliant news. I can't wait to see TT give Pirates of the Caribbean the Lego treatment.

Brilliant news indeed! I hope they won't disappoint like the abysmal Lego MMO.

Hopefully they'll incorporate more of the sandboxy type mucking around from Harry Potter with the school. Not too sure how they'd do it in Pirates though. Explorable Port Royal?

it's about time a lego game went beyond 2 players imo.

    70 different characters?

    Pirate 1, pirate 2, pirate 3, etc.

Seriously, there aren't 70 characters in the films are there? They were stretching it in Harry Potter by having so many costume variations for the three principal chars.

The good news would be if this resulted in an actual Lego line though. Bloody re-introducing pirates for a year then stopping again.

I bought the Star Wars, Batman and Indiana Jones games, but the last title (LEGO: Harry Potter) made me aware of of how much better the LEGO games are when you're aware of the source material. I don't know Harry Potter, so that game just wasn't anywhere near as much fun as the others.

I've only seen the first PotC, and didn't really like it, so I'm pretty sure I won't bother with this. LEGO: Back to the Future though? I'd be all over that.

unless lego make back to the future toy's its unlikely we'd get a game.
    lego potc sets are coming.

Maybe this can pave way for LEGO Lord of the Rings...

    Probably more than 70 if the list of characters below can be believed;

What made Lego Star Wars so magical was all the different types of characters. They were not all human. This seriously limited the appeal of Lego Indy in particular. Harry Potter was very good too as you had all the magical creatures.
  • Stepharneo #16 2 years ago

Well there are fish people and a zombie monkey... thats a bit magical.
  • Mkwone #17 2 years ago

Looking forward to this one, hopefully they'll be a trailer soon/
  • Shikasama #18 2 years ago

As someone who has never played one of the LEGO games, are they really that good? I gotta admit I find the concept difficult to deal with!
  • wobbly_Bob #19 2 years ago

    SOLD! coz I like pirates.
  • jonsaan #20 2 years ago

    @Shikasama.

For local co-op they are pretty hard to beat.
  • Mkwone #21 2 years ago

@Shikasama I like them because i like the source material, I wouldn't say i'm the biggest fan of any of the source material but a good background knowledge is needed to get the most out of the games. If you have that they they offer a quirky retelling of the stories, and seeing as there's no speech it's all done in a slapstick manor which appeals to me.

They're simple without being (too) childish, off lots of gameplay and encourage the player to smash everything it sight and to explore the world they're in. Granted a lot of gameplay comes from replaying the same levels, usually with alternative characters as often they're the only ones who can interact with a cartain part of the environment. If you don't like replaying levels to many times then you'll still get around 10-12 hours from a single playthough.

Local co-op is where these games are pretty unbeatable. I haven't played any other games on the xbox where I can have such a blast with my kids despite a 34yr age gap. Although the concept is the same the games have improved beyond measure. Harry Potter despite being so much more complex in term of all the spells etc is actually far easier for my boys to play.
    Keep'em coming!

We're not going to see Back to the Future or LoTR, etc, until Lego actually make sets based on those. This announcement is actually a little odd because of that, considering all Lego themselves have shown of the PoTC liscence was teasing a minifig of Jack Sparrow back at Comic Con.

Still, people can complain that these games are all the same, but they're still a lot of fun to play. I don't know how anyone could be so dead inside that they couldn't enjoy these.
  • Toothball #24 2 years ago

I'm not much of a fan of the Lego games. I only bought Lego Rock Band to get the tracks from the disc, but none of the others. I've also not really seen any of the Pirates films. The two do sound like a good fit, but not one I'm concerned with.

  • Antaios #28 2 years ago

@Toothball: I would actually be interested to see that, Lego Schindler's List.
  • PeacockDreams #29 2 years ago

After the lego toys of Prince of Persia came out i kinda thought it would be next to get the game treatment, but glad it didnt, dont think it would be suited, which makes me wonder why they brought out POP lego in the first place, the thing i would like to see become a Lego game? Ladies and gentlemen i give you GHOSTBUSTERS

    LEGO Lost ... Waaaaaalt!
  • reverandglass #31 2 years ago

Awesome news. I loved Lego Star Wars and Indy. Batman fell down for me by not being based on a film series so PotC has the potential to be great again. (Haven't played Harry Potter)

But will there be ninjas in it?!?!?!
